Sorry if I offended you Steve, but..... ...I think you may have missed my (our) point. We DO want to learn from info posted in this forum. What we DON'T want to have to do is wade through the personal pissing contests when someone's ego gets bruised.

Need .030" Aluminum or Nickel-Silver joint ring

I never use metal rings, but I need one for a repair job. I hate to buy a whole bag just for one ring. Anybody got one they would be willing to sell me?

Cool pic you guys might like

I totally missed that! Nice catch Rick! I was so taken with the artful quality of the picture that I didn't even notice the lack of safety gear.

    i need a new bandsaw

Hard to say why you can't cut straight without more info. It may not be the machine's fault. Did you just buy your machine and started cutting? That could be the problem. Do you have a good/sharp on the machine? The stock blade that comes on a lot of machines is crap! Get a good one...

    Dust collector canister filter

I e-mailed JET..... ....yesterday, so I don't know how long it will take for them to respond. I did look in the User Manual that came with my dust collector. It only mentions rotating the paddle handles to clear the dust from the pleats, but nothing about a more thorough cleaning.

    What joint?

Not too hard to calculate Measure the outside diameter of the pin. If it's (approx) 3/8, you've got a 3/8 pin. Count the threads and calculate how many threads there would be in 1 inch of length. If it's 10, you've got a 3/8-10. If it's something else, well, you get the idea:p Two possible...

    Dust collector canister filter

I saw that one. Thanks PolarBear, That's the one I was talking about earlier. Like I said before, I'm sure it "works", but I'd like to be sure that it doesn't degrade the efficiency of the filter. I think I'll take your advice and contact JET. I"ll post anything I get back from them.

    Dust collector canister filter

I've looked... but all I've been able to find is in some woodworking forums. I can't find anything on a vendors site that details approved cleaning methods or when to decide it's time to replace a filter. I've got a JET DC-1100 with a Dust Dog 1 micron canister filter. In one woodworking...

    Dust collector canister filter

As I was preparing to perform my spring ritual of cleaning the canister filter on my dust collector, a question came to mind. What is the useful life of a canister filter? When should you buy a new one instead of cleaning an old one?

Looking for Snakewood and Leopardwood to make a cue

A couple sources I've had real good luck with Leopardwood from Bell Forest Products. Here's a cue I made with Leopardwood from Bell Forest. I don't use Snakewood (too pricey and too unstable), but I've always gotten great wood from this guy...and he currently has some Snakewood...

Don't be sorry..... You are correct that the finish bonds by chemical adhesion, but mechanical adhesion is also a factor. The following link is only one of many that you can find that discuss the importance of surface texture for proper adhesion. http://www.modernpaints.us/surface_preparation.htm

Finish needs something to "grab onto" If you use too fine a grit on your final sand, the finish may not bond securely to the very fine surface.

    Any input on these?

They may be poor quality carbide The main problem I've run into when I've tried to save a buck on stuff like this is the quality. I purchased some really cheap brazed carbide tools once. The price was great, but the carbide chipped almost immediately. Considering this, they weren't much of...

Brush On Finish Water Based or Epoxy

Not according to Jeff Jewitt I contacted Jeff Jewitt at Homestead Finishes when I originally saw this post. Here is the text of the message he sent back to me when I asked about the Enduro Pre-Cat compared to the Enduro Clear Poly that I have been using. "The Clear Poly is the clearest and...

Brush On Finish Water Based or Epoxy

I'll add my vote for Enduro water bourne finishes, but..... I use the Enduro Clear Poly because it is water clear. The Enduro-Var and Pre-Cat will both have a slight yellow/amber tint. Although I actually think that looks good in some cases, I'd usually rather have the wood's true color show...

    Bobcad 24 Pocketing Tutorial

My $.02 In response to the past posters: PolarBear - Breaking the geometry to allow a feedrate change on the last portion of the cut IS possible, but cumbersome. In addition, it does not really solve the problem. When a larger cutter is used for roughing, the amount of stock left for...
