The Twelfth Annual George Fels Memorial Straight Pool Challenge at Derby City will be taking place January 22nd to 28th, 2017. The qualifying attempts will take place Sunday through Wednesday and the single-elimination playoff tournament is Thursday through Saturday. With over $15,000 added this year and 100% of entry fees returned as prizes, the total prize fund is expected to exceed $21,000.
For a $100 entry a player gets 12 tries to set a high run from a break shot of his choice. There is $600 in prizes for the top three runs each day of the qualifiers. The top eight players go on to the final tournament. There is a prize of $1000 for the highest run overall and a special additional prize of $1000 if a player sets a new record for the competition. The record of 227 was set by Jayson Shaw in 2015.
Sponsors are Diamond Billiard Products, Aramith balls, Simonis cloth, Red Shoes Billiards (Chicago area), and several individual sponsors including Darren Appleton and Johnny Archer.
Parts of the event will be streamed by billiardnet.tv and some of the finals may be streamed by Accu-stats.
