1 Pocket World Championships, update...

Invitational Vs. Open

I respond to his comments, not to him. I find it to be quite similar to a cowardly act to snipe at someone while you "supposedly" have them on ignore.

I don't care if he can see what I write or not. If he writes tripe and inaccuracies and I feel like responding to that then I will.

It's for you that I correct him.

John, this is an appropriate time for this statement I am going to make. I do not adhere to some of your perspectives about different things but I have always admired people who are willing to stick up for their convictions.

FTR, I did not know nor do I currently know all of the details that surround Randy G and Grady. I am reading between the lines and it seems that Randy must have had a straight pool tournament where Grady was not invited and this has ticked Grady off. Randy swears that he had nothing to do with the selection process which sounds strange if you are the promoter of the event.

The bottom line is invitational tournaments should be INVITATIONAL and OPEN TOURNAMENTS should be OPEN, whether they be NATIONAL, INTERNATIONAL OR REGIONAL.

Joey,

I am trying really hard to not to apply any labels. Let's just say that the things Randy Goldwater does are in my opinon not out of any love for the sport, they are not altruistic, again in my opinon. It is my observation that Mr. Goldwater is not much better than Kevin Trudeau in that he likes to use his money to bully people.

I object to Mr. Goldwater appropriating the title of "World Championship" and, again in my opinion, denigrating it.

It is sad that any person with a little money can buy their way into a sport and have any chance at all of playing with the game as if it is nothing ore than pawns on the chessboard.

It just goes to show how far pool is away from being in any sort of position where the players are not at the whim of promoters.

And it's further sad that one of those promoters who so vilified Kevin Trudeau is now adopting Trudeau's tactics.

And the pool world laps it up.

John give it a rest will you. Every sign on an eatery I see says the "best" food. Products use words like "greatest" "pure", "wonderful", "proven" etc.
Producers of entertainment extract words out of an article to proclaim how great their shows are. Whatever RG calls his promotions who cares. He helped produce some great 14.1 entertainment for pool lovers and continues to do so. Let him call it what he wants. If you dont like it dont go or produce one yourself.
As a person I like Grady. One on One he has been a gentleman and out of his way to be nice to me. Of course I always show him some respect. But his attitudes in public have been quite offensive.
I dont know Randy other than to watch him publicly, particularly at Amsterdam Billiards. Instinctually I dont like him. A bit of a Napoleonic complex I feel. But he seems to genuinely like pool players and I have to admit does a lot for the game.

Are the players getting paid in full at the end of the tourney? If so, he is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Trudeau. The fact is that an Invitational tourney is for invited players and an Open tourney is open to anyone. Im sure there are others that werent invited that would have liked to have been, but they are not complaining in 3 threads a week on here. JMO.

I care what he calls the tournaments. Because we all know that nothing Strokes the Ego like being able to say you put on the "World Championships". Why not have the NYC Invitational?

Even if I don't like it what should I do now? Get into a bidding war with Randy and his $60 Million in blood money?

Randy is a __________ . If I don't agree with him then I will voice my opinion. I am not the only one who feels this way so I feel quite secure in my position.

In my eyes he is way worse than Trudeau. Trudeau, for ALL of his faults, really did TRY to create something big. And while it lasted the IPT was everything the pros dreamed of. Randy, on the other hand, tosses crumbs for his own edification in my opinion. And the way he brags about it here in order to have us all kissing his feet is onerous.

Well, I don't subscribe to the Randy's Money makes it all good temple. Especially from someone who vilified Trudeau and then goes on to show the same type of behavior.

JOHN,
You and I have met. Randy G and I have never met. Everyone gets into a tiff on AZ from time to time. That being said......

I haven't seen posts from RG that warrant this type of continuous attack. Where are his posts that warrant this type of attack? Can you show me the links?

From an Internet friend, it appears that you have a personal vendetta and if that is the case I would like to see his posts that deserve these responses. Perhaps I have missed something.

If another man has a lot more money than you, it doesn't make him a bad guy. You're insinuating terrible things about RG's supposed monies as well as RG right to do with it as he pleases. These disparaging remarks against his character are repugnant.

I have never liked any man or woman who thinks that money makes him a better man than another but I haven't seen that in RG's posts, except for a mild ego expression with "because I can". That doesn't warrant these attacks. I might be guilty of using a term like that in a moment of tizziness.

These attacks reflect negatively on the forum.

Please put aside whatever reasons you have and discontinue this attack campaign unless you can show me reason for justification. I just can't imagine what that could be and while I have my mind made up I will try to see your side.

I personally liked the insult about "blood money," which could be quite insulting, if not insinuating something illegal.

Perhaps John has some additional information he could share with us. If not, then I have to agree with Joey.

I have never seen Randy do anything on here to deserve these types of attacks. Perhaps there is more inside info that John is aware, I am not sure.

Regardless, I have to judge by what I see here, since I have no additional information. In that case, I have to give Randy Kudos for what he has done and what he is trying to do.

as promised, for those interested, here is a short update.

After making some inquiries I have found that everything in the original pertinent thread regarding a 1 pocket world championship IS possible. In fact, i was pleased to learn that there are no major obstacles to overcome.

I also spoke to Dragon Promotions, and i am expecting a follow up conversation today.

I think for this event i may have all the interested players submitt a written application listing their qualifications and accomplishments. This may make it much simpler to navigate the invitational process. "Nominees" wont be accepted. I am thinking this must come directly from the players.

Not sure about scheduling, but over the weekend i went over the international events, and despite what 1 or 2 people said, there are many lengthy "holes" throughout a typical year. We are going through one right now, as an example. Turning stone, mid august, through sept 8 for the florida open. I still get a laugh when i think of how one postter suggested there are too many pro events.

Thanks for reading

Randy goldwater

Why don't you just use previous and current tournaments to fill your list of invitees? I assume this is only true for American players, correct? I'm not so sure if you should have to decide also for foreign players and bypass their governing bodies. Well, at least if you want this to be sanctioned by WPA.

Joey I don't need you to see my side. Randy is the reason Randy is not liked by more people than just me.

Money is not the issue here, character is. If you care to find out why I personally don't like him then you can do some searching and find the source. If you care to find out why others here don't like him then you can find those comments as well.

But beyond that, I am also not happy with the way that Randy "buys" his way into pool while condemning others who do the same.

It is a sad reflection on pool that it isn't strong enough to stand up to a Kevin Trudeau and is so weak as to be manipulated by a Randy Goldwater for what amounts to peanuts.

The remark about blood money has it's origins in the record as well and refers to how Randy has acquired his fortune. While he is apparently free to insult and denigrate many of us for what we do not have compared to him (he assumes), and is apparently free to vilify other promoters while somehow expecting to be free of criticism, he is not.

I guarantee you Joey that if you had had the pleasure of having the same type of interactions with Randy that I and others have had then you would feel quite differently.

Here's the thing, if the criticism prompts Randy to put on better tournaments then it's good. If it doesn't then he only proves what we, his critics, believe. Let's hope for the former.

Who are his critics John? I mean besides you and Grady. I mean I dont really care cause if Randy G holds a one pocket tournament I will try to attend. If you know something please let me know. If it is really reprehensible than I wont support him.
I know he doesnt like me for some reason. I dont know why and I dont care. I still have respect for him for putting on the 14.1. But i wont lose sleep over him and his attitude. I got my money too. Now if only my old lady will let me have access to it. LOL!!!!!!!

John, if you truly feel as you do about Randy's money, how could you even think of wanting him to put on better tournaments?

If I felt as you do I would not want him to be involved in pool at all.

And for the record, I have read where HE describes how he made some of his money and if that is what you are referring to, then your attacks are unwarranted IMHO. If you know of something else, I would love to hear it.

BTW, not to drag Grady back into this, but Grady is a friend of mine and I didn't like seeing him and Randy throwing daggers at each other either.

Like I said before, I don't like getting involved in discussions like this but it just looks SO BAD for the forum, that I had to speak up. Criticism is one thing but the type of assault you used is better left for other forums.

JoeyA

Nah Joey, I don't have such a high sense of morals that I care if Randy uses money gained through military sales that came about because of the "war" in Iraq. Money flows where it will. Trudeau's money came from sales of repackaged quackery and conspiracy theory.

I just find it totally hypocritical that Randy Goldwater vilifies Trudeau while holding himself up as some kind pool saint.

Don't get involved then. Don't worry Joey, the forum can take it. Randy isn't worried about little people like me. After all I am on the famous Randy Goldwater ignore list. That's like a badge of honor.

Let's recap though, now Randy is going to put on a tournament called the World Championship of One Pocket and the players are to be determined by application. Sound familiar?

Well fine. That's better than how Randy started out. At least NOW there is no legitimate excuse to exclude Grady Matthews and it's up to Grady to submit an application if he wishes to play. Although personally I find that Randy and Dragon Promotions should have a much easier time to fill the roster of qualified players for the One Pocket event than the 14.1 event. All the best players are known and there is no need to have an application system.

It's just another way to thumb his nose at the pool world. Period.

It's all on record. I am not the only one who disagrees with Randy. Maybe I am the most vocal but hardly the only one.

Nah, I don't care enough to start that nonsense. Been there done that too many times.

If you like Randy or don't care then that's great. He rubs me the wrong way and I him. I don't have however a personal vendetta against him. But whenever I happen to stumble upon something he says that I find offensive then I am likely to register my distaste.

I don't need to play the history game to see who "started" it. I know who started it and I know what was said. And you know what? The most offensive things weren't even said to me.

In my book he is just a _________ and a __________ no matter how much money he throws around. And to some people I am also just a _________ no matter how much "good" I do or have done. It's life.
