1 Pocket World Championships, update...

as promised, for those interested, here is a short update.

After making some inquiries I have found that everything in the original pertinent thread regarding a 1 pocket world championship IS possible. In fact, i was pleased to learn that there are no major obstacles to overcome.

I also spoke to Dragon Promotions, and i am expecting a follow up conversation today.

I think for this event i may have all the interested players submitt a written application listing their qualifications and accomplishments. This may make it much simpler to navigate the invitational process. "Nominees" wont be accepted. I am thinking this must come directly from the players.

Not sure about scheduling, but over the weekend i went over the international events, and despite what 1 or 2 people said, there are many lengthy "holes" throughout a typical year. We are going through one right now, as an example. Turning stone, mid august, through sept 8 for the florida open. I still get a laugh when i think of how one postter suggested there are too many pro events.

Thanks for reading

Hi Randy, sounds great!

Maybe some $2000 qualifiers also for this fantastic WORLD Championships!

I assume you have several intergalactic blue chip companies lined up?

I'm sure everyone will love this new "invite only" format, especially all those lucky IPT invitees who praised this format last year. ;)

Hey Randy, great idea. You guys did a terrific job with the World 14.1 Championships last month. I don't see why the same thing can't happen for One Pocket.

I thought that the original threat was just a nusiance post intended to get under the skin of Grady and Blackjack and I posted a pretty negative message.

I apologize for my negative and smart ass attitude. I had no clue that you were serious about this and I applaud any and all efforts to put on a world class pool tournament.

I can't wait to see how Grady gets disqualified. Probably "too old". Hopefully the selection process is worthy of the title being played for.

Randy, you may have trouble getting players to submit an application. Perhaps, a detailed outline of what the WORLD ONE POCKET CHAMPIONSHIP entails would be nice. WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and the all important HOW MUCH cost/payout.

I realize that many things are in the planning stage.....

Nice ring to it.

Good luck.

joeyA,

Most things aren't in the planning stage, EVERYTHING is. At this time we are only exploring the feasibility of such an event. The who, what, where and when is MUCH to soon even to speculate about.

I will say though, if this happens, in all probability, it will occur somewhere in the north east. As far as the applications, I am almost certain that's how it will be done. It will be invitational, probably only 32 players, but maybe 64. There would be enough lead time where everyone interested will have an opportunity to submitt an app.

Have no idea about prize money/pay outs. Havent sppken to any pptential sponsors, but at the very least i would put up enough that it wouldnt be less than the world straight pool championships.

Thanks for all the positive interest, everyone. I see john barton contributed to this thread. No doubt more of his usual name calling and vile demonizations of me. (yawn).

Great news, I hope it comes through ... Now, how about in CT or Mass. Lets let everyone come through NY and those damned bridges in the opposite direction for a change. God I hate that trip through NY. :)

Why not have it in a central location , say like Olathe ,Ks. Dan Tull would take care of you??

misterbanker, it was not very long ago that these "specialty" world championship events had only 8 participants. And the last time I checked, the world hasn't gotten any bigger since then. Perhaps you should consider being more informed before posting, therefore sparing hard feelings on both sides of the fence.;)

As far as a central location, no question that it would be held within a short ddiving distance from NYC. I hear that the sponsor refuses to travel for these events, for personal reasons.

Perhaps it is you who should consider cracking open the Billiard Encyclopedia and checking your facts.

The Straight Pool World Championship used to be decided amongst a small group of players who had to come up through many layers of regional qualification among hundreds of players.

And for your information the world has indeed gotten "bigger" There are more people and certainly more one pocket players.

But you'll certainly find a way to exclude who you want to so it's pointless to refute your ignorance.

You are only interested in making power plays. Do it. If being pissed at Grady gets you to spend more money on pool then Grady has done good for pool even if it doesn't benefit him personally.

And where is that "players union" you promised?

John..why do you write posts to a man who has you on ignore?

I respond to his comments, not to him. I find it to be quite similar to a cowardly act to snipe at someone while you "supposedly" have them on ignore.

I don't care if he can see what I write or not. If he writes tripe and inaccuracies and I feel like responding to that then I will.

It's for you that I correct him.

Then I suppose it should be called the WORLD INVITATIONAL ONE POCKET CHAMPIONSHIP.
