are you serious???????????
Yes, I am!

For one year, the IPT captured everyone's attention. Now, the IPT is just about finished but it would be wonderful if it could be reincarnated in some form here in the U.S.

Regardless of which pool game is promoted, the key is to not to overextend yourself but instead to start small and let it grow.

Idea

Ok..here is my idea...The first 100 AZers who can post a message without any spelling errors are invited to the first 1 Pocket championspih..Damn, i guess that leaves me out...If only i hadnt hit the submit button....LOL....:D Don

John, why are you looking for a fight here?

Everyone needs to back off and cool down.

I don't believe anyone really wants me warning anyone, so knock it off already.

I guess the premise of the original poster struck a wrong chord with me.

Point taken.

Is there a possible to have the community regulate the content?

Something like a vote on content? If a thread gets a certain number of negative votes then it automatically moves to the "sandbox" where the kiddies can play if they want to and stays aways from the main board?

Perhaps as a modification that's available for this software??? Might be worth looking into.

Cuz my attempts at self-regulation aren't working out too well :-(

Later.

I would think that also the negative votes should be canceled out by positive ones. I vote positive for John's comments & negative for Mr. Wilson getting involved in this thread. JAM/corvette/others had a big one day 'discussion' that the board simply let die down. No harm, no foul as I see it. Mr. Wilson threatening in a thread serves no purpose.

I also think Mr. Wilson did the right thing.

As for a thread receiving negative comments and automatically, via software, being banished into nether nether land, well, that simply smacks of censorship by those who have no right to censor.

Not my kind of thing!

If something is truly offensive, PM Mr. Wilson, and let him take care of it.

Actually it would be censorship by the very people who have the right to censor. The community. If the community votes to have a thread removed to "argument land" then it should go there and all who want to read it and those who want to continue the fight can go there and do it.

Many other websites are self-regulating in this manner. Digg for example is a place where content is displayed according to the voting of it's user base. But no content is lost.

I don't go to NPR because I don't want to fight about non-pool stuff. But I will not allow folks to make what I consider to be ludicrous points without answer on the main board. If the thread about McCumber for example were moved to NPR then it would go where I don't care and would not follow it. IF we had a voting system in place then I am sure that the community would have voted it off the island already.

I vote for a voting system! :-) In full knowledge that I will probably be the first one voted off.........

Fortunately for you John, it isn't, hasn't and won't be a democracy.

Everyone is a guest in this house and is expected to behave accordingly...not how they feel other's would vote for.

You know this is truly funny. We are all members of a community whether you call it a house or not.

And if you can't handle that some members of the community don't like the status quo then perhaps you should consider leaving the house. Because without the community AZ Billiards would never have grown past AriZona Billiards news.

Don't let it get to the point where you think your house is invincible. I like it here but you have already seen that a lot of valuable contributers packed their toys and left. Of course "value" is relative I know. Still, they are gone and it wouldn't take much for other folks to go elsewhere if the climate here gets worse.

An empty house gets mighty lonely and is hard to sell advertisers on the benefit of using.

I have a good feeling that I wouldn't be voted off the island as soon as you imply my friend.

Of course you can do it now and exercise your power to make an example of what happens when benevolence turns sour.

I have spent a good part of my energy defending AZ and you even though I don't agree with some of your calls. If you think that was a wasted effort then you know what to do. I am sure that there are other places on the net that would welcome my insight into the world of pool.

Starting with our own board that I neglect. www.insidepool.com

I think I will vote myself off the island for a while. That ought to make Randy happy. And what Randy wants Randy gets, because he can.

What would stop the lunatics from running the asylum??

IMO there are too many factions and/or cliques for this to be viable...

That's true, so that's the reason why we need Mr. Wilson to stop people from the namecalling...

TheOne: For you I have these edited quotes from the French guard in "The Quest for the Holy Grail". I think this is the best namecalling of you brits I have hever heard :D (Thank god for Monty Python)

"Don't frighten me, English pig-dog! Go and boil your bottom, son of a silly person. I blow my nose at you. I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough whopper! I fart in your general direction! You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of eldeberries. I wave my private parts at your aunties, you heaving lot of second-hand electric donkey bottom biters. No chance, English bedwetting types. I burst my pimples at you and call your daughter an unrequested silly thing. You tiny-brained wiper of other people's bottom!"

Tailgater if hever I saw one! :D

Love the quote, hilarious! You can't beat Monty Python/British humor! :)

PLONK!

Dave I for one dont know who you are and dont know any of your accomplishments. It is my ignorance and loss.Ive been following pool for some time. Since Ernie started out making cues using his daughter's name Gina. Since I seen Toupee Jay play an exhibition with Mosconi. Since attending the Jansco bros. Stardust tournaments in Vegas when Billy, Larry Liscotti, and Danny D was tearing everybody up. Since Pat Fleming was putting out the AccuStats report before his first video. But I applaud you for your sensibilities and good nature and your healthy approach towards trying to unify a pool community. Rather than using your status or rank. I dont know what awards you've won or who you come home to at night. I dont give a darn about that. But you sure sound sensible to me.

I think the clique already left.

My idea doesn't take away the moderator. It only adds a way for the site to self regulate. Assuming we have far more lurkers than posters they could make their silent voice heard - everybody gets one vote - if a thread hits a target of negative votes then it simply gets moved.

I very much doubt that there would be a group of people colluding to game the system, and if they were able to then the mods could put a thread back in few clicks.

it's just an idea. It doesn't matter though as this is Mike's house as we are reminded by Dave and the community will never have a voice in what happens - at least according to Dave. So no sense in trying to suggest anything that might be an improvement.

What if the name is accurate?

I think the very person who started this thread started it with a line where he called someone else a bigot. I don't know if it's true, but what if is?

What should someone be called when describing a facet of their character to which a name is perfectly suited?

Instead of saying you are an xxxx should we say i am not calling you an xxxxx however the last xxxxx i knew behaved just the same?

Perhaps people should not make posts where they act like xxxxxs and then no one would label them as xxxxxs.

I think that's a better way anyway. I can just do blanks ---- from now on instead of calling someone a "name" I will just say you are a _________ and everyone can fill in the blank as they see fit.

Does the "no name calling" wish apply to compliments as well? Should we refrain from calling someone a "great guy" or an "angel"? Or does it only apply to the negative?

Just kidding -

Roy I think you are a _____________ and a _________ to this forum!

YOU SAW my match against Willie? WOW!! Do you remember my first shot where I almost wiffed the ball I was shooting at. Pancho yelled out to a stunned crowd "He hit it", and everyone broke up laughing. Willie ran 119 and out on me. I think that was about 1968 or 69.

Like you, I don't know Dave either and I don't care. I do know Mike and I trust his judgement. That's all the endorsement Dave needs for me.

There are always going to be disagreements between people who feel strongly about a subject.

What I ask for the most though, is not to resort to name calling. Stating an opinion even though it not the wide accepted opinion is one thing.

Insulting another user because you don't agree with their opinion is not ok.

That is the #1 rule around here.

Mike

IMO, there is too much petty squabbling that goes on in this forum. From time to time, we all need to be reminded to behave ourselves. ;)
