10,000,000 Youtube channel views

Thank you to everybody for the supportive comments! I appreciate it.

I look forward to posting many more videos in the future.

Happy viewing,
Dave

One great thing about YouTube is all of the statistics it tracks.

For example, here are some interesting results for last month:

Top 10 Videos (based on number of views):

3.) Pool bank and kick shot terminology and aiming systems, from VEPS IV (NV B.81)
4.) Cut-induced throw (CIT) and spin-induced throw (SIT) in pool and billiards, from VEPS IV (NV B.86)
5.) Masse shot ball curve technique and aiming system for pool and billiards, from VEPS V (NV B.88)

10% female

Top 5 age ranges of viewers:
1.) 30% - ages 25-34
2.) 25% - ages 18-24
3.) 16% - ages 35-44
4.) 9% - ages 45-54
5.) 8% - ages 65+

Top 5 countries from which views took place:
1.) United States - 74.3K
2.) Indonesia - 9.3K
3.) Canada - 8.9K
4.) Philippines - 8.7K

I was surprised Indonesia made the top 5, but I wasn't surprised the Philippines did. Those Filipinos really like their pool and do everything it takes to get better.

Cheers,
Dave

I suspect that on a "per capita basis" the Philippines is a clear #1. (Edit: actually not the case; Canada has the most views on a per capita basis, followed by U.S., tie between Philippines and UK, followed by Indonesia last.)

Nice to see the amount of 25-34 viewers. I'd have guessed that most viewers were old farts (like me).

Truly an amazing accomplishment. You have put a lot of effort into this and have busted more myths than Mythbusters.

Yah! Congratulations Dave!

Dave should come out with a MYTHBUSTERS dvd.

Thank you.

Joey,

That's a great idea.

I do have a long series of Myth-buster articles already planned for BD. These articles would summarize a lot of work (including some YouTube videos) that I have already done. I'm no sure when I'll get to this because I already have 8-10 months of other articles planned for coming months, but I hope to start the Myth-buster series by late next year.

Again, thank you for suggesting a DVD on this topic. I'll add it to my list of possible projects for the future.

Catch you later,
Dave

Oh yeah, well mines got 10 million and one.

Great job and a great example of how to spread the word.

Thank you for all you do,

Thanks for looking at the per-capita numbers. I'm actually not surprised by Canada. I get lots of DVD orders from Canada. Maybe the longer and colder winters keep them inside playing pool more than in milder climates.

I was also a little surprised with this also; but, like you, I think it is a good thing.

Aha, it's your fault we don't have a bigger population.

Sorry about that. I know that much of Canada is not a winter wasteland. I've been in and around Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary, so I know how pleasant parts of Canada can be. I also hope I get to visit Van Couver some day because that area seems to be awesome.

Colorado is much like Canadian Rockies (although, honestly not quite as pretty) and people often have misconceptions about our weather too. People tend to think only of our ski resorts totally covered with snow, and they think the whole state is like that year round. Although, here, we are happy with our population numbers and growth, so we don't want more people to know how nice it is here (at the base of the mountains) year round. (Oops! I guess the truth is out now.)

Catch you later,
Dave

PS: Stay bundled up, and don't leave any skin exposed when you go outside. :grin-square:

What can the pool world do to get more females interested in our sport (besides having "chick magnets" like me posting more YouTube videos ;))?

Dave

Congratulations on the milestone, Dr. Dave. More than a few of those views were mine. Thank you!

I think one thing Dr. Dave did that was brilliant (and the first I saw anyone do) was in his BD articles where he put the links to the shots he was explaning.

This made the reader go to the website and made the viewer go to the magazine. That's the formula for success in printed magazines vis-a-vis a website. To really get the value, it requires both.

Dr. Dave;

I just saw this and am amazed.

Congratulations! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

You have amassed an enormous amount of truly wonderful info for us all to use to try and better our games.

Thanks for all of your hard work.

Your 10 million views are well deserved!

best,

10,000,000 YouTube views, of which 90% were male viewers.......where exactly is the cleavage in the videos? Or maybe there's some gratuitous violence I missed? </sarcasm>

The question you pose regarding how to get more females interested in pool just may be THE key to rejuvenating the game. If there were more females directly participating in the game rather than being pool widows, there would be more male participation as well. I lost a league team member a couple of weeks ago because his girlfriend didn't like him playing.

On the flip side, I have seen a lot of young couples that appear to be on a first date at the pool tables lately. If you think about it, it's actually a great thing to do on a first date; it can be as interactive, or non-interactive as you'd like. The problem is, after a few racks they get discouraged and I never see the same two again. Maybe get a female co-host (Samm?) in a 2-3 minute video to provide extremely basic guidance to a casual player that's never played before. Content might be "wear flat shoes" and "keep the cue level". Just give them enough guidance that they'll be able to enjoy the game rather than be intimidated by it. If your first experience with pool is a positive one, you'll be more likely to play again.

Great Job Dr. Dave, thanks for promoting the game!

Thanks.

Great idea concerning doing a video with Samm geared specifically to female "newbies." Samm would be a great person to star in such a video. I'll add this to my list.

Regard,
Dave

PS: In the meantime, I'll work on reducing the amount of cleavage and violence in my future videos. :grin-square:
