That being said, I don't find any of the names applied to white people as being offensive to me and feel that people who are offended by such words are just too thin skinned!

Those complaining about illegal immigrants are fighting a phantom battle. It is not a question of illegal immigration; it's an issue of a transient workforce, a cheap source of labor for American businesses and an easy straw-man target for politicians and two-bit social commentators to lament about.
I worked as a chef in several Manhattan restuarants, and have yet to see ONE American dishwasher or busboy. I don't know ANY Americans who want those jobs. I certainly don't. But if you remove the migrant labor from Manhattan, the city will literally collapse. The hospitality industry will grind to a halt, immediately.
Europe has the same "problem" with illegal middle Eastern laborers. Their pundits speak out against the same illusion, blaming them for a garden variety of social ills. The fact is industrialized countries want cheap labor without having to grant those workers any political stature. The highly benificial by-product of this wink-wink system is the scapegoating these vulnerable people provide for inept politicians and business interests.
The diversionary aspect of these debates are invaluable to elites and cannot be underestimated in our country, in any country for that matter.

Another BIG difference, WAYNE, is that I can find America, Canada, England, Russia, etc, on the map. But my damn 6' Wall Map doesn't have anywhere called the ORIENT. And I travel to Asia every month (really), but don't believe I have ever met an Oriental.
Yes, I saw the definition in the dictionary as posted herein. But here is an actual C&P for "Colored":
b. Black or African-American
c. Of mixed racial descent
Lets see how far you get by using "colored" to describe Black people. Oriental is equally offensive.
Because someone found it in the dictionary has exactly squat to do with the fact that referring to an Asian as "Oriental" is a slur, offensive, and a disparaging term for any Asian person. This isn't about being Politically Correct, it's about the use of archaic, offensive slang.
I own 3 factories in Asia, and am married to a wonderful Asian lady. Even my fuckin dog is Asian. It infuriates me when some ignorant ass uses an archaic term like Oriental when describing a person. Yes, ERIC, it is a slur.
Fortunately, I live in Cali and have NEVER herard anyone use Oriental to describe an Asian person. Of course, we don't say "colored", "raghead" or "wetback", either. AND YES, they are all equally offensive.
King Kong said:To be offended when "ORIENTAL" is used and the culprit does not have malicous intent is "CRAZY". People say nigger lovingly and have changed the intent behind the word. The only time someone should be offended is based on other factors like "tone, Body Language, speach pattern and word selection are overwhelmingly MEANT to offend" any other time is over kill!

buddha162 said:So you're saying that as a black man, you would not be offended if a random caucasion or asian calls you nigger, as long as the term is used endearingly?
As I understand it, the N-word is a special case within the racial slur family. It has been incorporated into the black culture (on some levels) and as you said, can be construed as a positive word, reaffirming the common history of oppression and resistance shared among blacks. This does not apply to other racial slurs.
The bottom line is this: any slur/slang that addresses racial groups must be deemed offensive if the addressee finds it offensive. I personally have no understanding of why "Negro" or "Colored" is offensive today, but I know that most black people consider it so; thus, I won't use that word. I don't need to understand why, as long as I know the consequences might be hurtful or negative in any way, I won't use it. This is pretty basic consideration, imo, and follows an easy logic, again imo.
