Here's the list, if this is true, it feels close to numbers when Varner and I played in the Midwestern Finals @ IU in 69. This means, our game is On the Rise if this demographic is rearing its head.

What exactly is this list of/for? You failed to really explain anything about this.

Last year was the largest turnout in the history of ACUI collegiate 9-ball championships. Hopefully this year is just as good.

I'd say who I am on the list, but my screen name isn't a very good alias.

Oops....it's the annual national collegiate pool championships. The disciplines have changed from 14.1 when it first started, to I think they play eight ball nowadays.
But the internet/video/asians/europeans/Everyone on the planet but the :scratchhead:U.S.A:scratchhead:....are chumming the internet waves with professional play, like no other sport. We're slowly pickin' up steam here, just gotta get past the ''negative waves'' or better yet, the Efren monkey, off our backs that society here has bestowed upon our sport. No different than the demonizing that the sixties brought upon the younger generation, if you smoked pot.

For those interested, this is the ACUI (Association of College Union International) National Collegiate 9-ball Tournament list. A link to the program is here: http://www.acui.org/billiards/

And a list of past champions. There are some big names on this list. http://www.acui.org/content.aspx?menu_id=14&id=13181

The 2013 9-Ball International Championships will be held June 27–30 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. The championships will be held in Sparky's Den, located in the Arizona State University Memorial Union.

ACUI is broken into 15 regions. Each region hosts a qualifying tournament where the top male and female collegiate finishers (based on number of entrants) are invited to play at the national level. There are additional independent qualifiers after the regional qualifiers to allow any students to compete regardless of region. This year, University of Michigan, Radford University, and Virginia Tech University hosted independent qualifiers.

It's an amazing program and I strongly encourage any student you know who is in college and likes to compete find more information about their region and participating. I have made some great friends over the years in this organization.

I am familiar and involved with these programs, so if you have any additional please feel free to contact me.

this will be a good tournament this year. Ill be rooting for my buddy Raymond Linares out of miami to snap it off for the third time.

The choice of the phoenix location is really making it a costly trip for ray. They only announced the location a month or so ago and flights to phoenix out of miami are about 500. brutal

I'll take Sam Gilmer to finish top 8 for even money. Or 3/1 that he wins it.
He must play to have a bet, if he does not participate then all bets are off.

The game has been 9-ball since at least 2002, the year I first competed. I competed when I was a graduate student, by the way, so it's not just for undergraduates who are in college.

@ IU

Nicky beat me in the finals 150-148 and then went on to defeat Mike Carella in the Nationals 14.1 Finals that yr. Repeated the following yr. During this time period Hubert Cokes took em under his wing as I saw in Johnston City, and Hal Nix came in to the picture also.

Wow, that must have been an exciting match against Varner. I know what it's like to be close. I won the largest region in the country four years in a row, made it to nationals five times, finished in the top five at nationals all five years, and lost in the finals twice (to Lars Vardaman, three-time ACUI champion). I also beat three national champs along the way.
