16 Players Put up $2000 each. Race to 21 Who Will win it???

I think this is great for pool..don't see any one else stepping to the plate to make things happen. Ray is right on when he say's that more of these type of tournaments will be great for pool..I agree. Seems this tournament has already peaked the interest of many people, even before the balls are broken (with out the top guns)

Lets get pool out there and the players that know how to play it..very possible if enough of this gets out.. something positive could come back. Worst case scenario is every thing will stay the same, however, we will be treated to a very interesting and entertaining event.

SMOKING ACES AND THE PLAYERS..GO

If the players show up and put up $500, 1k, or 2k, it seems they don't care if money is added or not. They know before hand what the format is before throwing the $$ in the pot. If they don't care, why should anyone else care? If they don't like it they wouldn't play in it. IMO the type of players that play in these high entry tournaments are players with heart and love to test themselves against all strong players or players that have plenty of money or have full sponsorship. IMO these kind of tournaments will force U.S players to get better quickly. This has to be good for pool. The top players know how much money and work it takes to put these type of tournaments together...that's why so few do it. Back when pool was doing well you could walk into any action room and find a bunch of top players in high stake ring game, and there was no added money in those games. It seems today that most top players want to pay nothing in entry fees, big added money, and have 80% of the field dead money. Johnnyt

There is no money added to this? The players just put up their own money and play for it?

Well it could be like other tournaments with added money.
Green fees/Registrations fees of $4,000
Added money $2,000 for a prize fund totaling $30,000
Is that better? LOL

I doubt many of the players are putting up much anything. This format can only work as long as stake horses can be talked into putting up the money.
Grady tried to do a one pocket tournament during the Red tournament in Houston one year. $1000 entry fee 16 players. In the end turned out Grady had to put in almost half the players to make it happen. Players don't want to go into their pockets even if they have the money, which they usually don't. Without their Lackeys, most of the money matches we hear about would never happen.

Actually, to make this happen requires a lot of the players. Unless it is in their home town the expenses will mount up quickly. Of course that can be said to most any tournament but few ask you to put up $2000 plus expenses just to play.

This is a great idea if you think about it the players have backers so they have a free roll at good payday

The backers have a chance to make 5x the post money or more if they get more than half they dont get money odds like that in most action matches.

The sponsors and promoters and venue all get good exposure.

The sweaters at the event or on the live stream get to see great players in some great match ups.

This is a win win for pool IMO we should have more events like this and i want to thank the players, backers, Smokin Aces, Big Truck and everybody that made this happen.

In my opinion it is a bad sign that more and more tournaments are being played on bar tables. That is not what pros should be playing on. It is basically a joke for them, especially 9 ball. On top of it all, why are they allowing rack your own? :(

A Professional plays different games on different equipment and can adapt quickly with a positive approach. Fun to watch.

Fact of the matter is if this was 10 ball on a 9 foot diamond you'd never get 16 people to put up 2K. I'm not even sure you'd get 4.

I heard Henny wrangled up a little pre tournament action with Skyler Friday night in Metropolis and lost quite a few frog skins on the 9 ft to the kid. Word is the kid is playing Eddie big $ full rack bank sets even at Side Pockets in Paducah next week. That should be a very entertaining match to sweat for us locals who have been waiting for this one to go down for a long time. What polar opposites those two are...lol

I understand the motives, but I think this is sign of the bad times in professional pool these days. It seems that more and more of the tournaments are on barboxes. I understand the US Bar table championship appeal in terms of the novelty of pros playing on bar tables, but there are now many other tourneys on the BB too- the rumrunner, the 4 bears, the tourney mentioned in this thread.

I understand that not all of these are intended exclusively for pro level players, but it is still a sign of the times. It would be much better if the top guys played on top level equipment more- 9 or 10 footers with relatively tight pockets. True something is better than nothing, but I wish for better for pro pool.

Also, 9 ball on a bar box also should not be rack your own. It probably shouldn't be rack your own on any table. We saw what a joke Deuel made out of this at the USBTC. If a magic rack is being used, why not have opponent rack or at least really carefully watch for pattern racking.

I was there and THE KID did give him a few lessons. However Hennesey did blame it on the table and offered to play him again on any Diamond 8' table. This is what makes pool fun though when every player thinks he plays better. I just know it was a lot of fun to sit and watch 2 great shooters go at it. Looking forward to the weekend at Smokin Aces. There might be a favorite but I think its wide open.

OMG I would pay to see that.

Let me know if this goes down and how it turns out.

Yea, i heard the banks were close but he got ran over in the 9ball.
They all play so close on the BB whoever is breaking the best will win this tournament. At least thats the way i see it.

Welcome to 2014. Pro pool is basically non-existent in the US. There hasn't been a formal tour for who knows how long not counting Bonus Ball. Promoters can't make money running events. The Pro's are going to where there is some money and that's to added bar table events. The strong eat the weak.

It sucks and hopefully it can turn around, but right now it doesn't look good. I still think a legitimate pro tour is financially feasible and could be successful. But, it would take too many unlikely events for that to happen.
