1973 US Open Championships- PICTURE- help ID???

.....Also, it could be Irving Crane sitting immediately behind Cisero Murphy. Crane has back of head in photo.

Does anybody agree with this one?

Will Prout

Will

Yeah, I agree with you. For sure Cisero and I agree that way looks like Crane behind, that is exactly the way Crane held himself and that guy looks slim enough for sure.

I was there, and have been squinting into the crowd looking for me me me, were you?

Kevin

Could the gentleman sitting down be Leroy Kinman, 3x Colligate champion from Ky???????
randyg

Definitely Dallas West, Willie Munson and Cisero Murphy from behind. The other two could be Joe Balsis of Jack Colavita (if he's bald it's Balsis, if he has hair it's Jack), and the last one may be Lassiter but I don't think so. Too tall and too slim and his clothes look too straight (Lassiter always looked frumpy in a suit). It may be Al Gassner, another good 14.1 player of that era. He was taller with gray hair also.

The young kid is hard to define. Doesn't ring a bell with me. I don't think he was one of the young stars like Mataya, Marino or Lisciotti.

Fran Crimi hasn't gotten back yet; but, I did get this:

It was before my time and really pretty hard to recognize the faces because the detail in the photo blown up isn't all that clear, which tends to happen.

Thanks Fran ... appreciate you taking the time to come here and post up -- you're awesome:thumbup:

atthecat: Once this is finalized, could you please pass it on to Mary Kenniston giving her permission to use it so she can give you credit. She has been working on one of the, if not "the" best billiard photo albums on the net. If you are not friends with her on Facebook I could forward that for you. I love this little project. Thank you sir and I hope I've been of "some" help .... cheers.

I will, thanks for all the help.

Dallas West is playing Cicero, Balsis is on the next table and Willy Munson is playing on the opposite table, for sure. Doesn't look like Lassiter is in the picture, not sure who the young player is, definitely not Lisciotti, or Mataya.

Cool picture though.

Thanks for your help. Gonna my a poster of this for my pool room!

They look like Gandy tables and that's the famous Cue Ball Kelly racking for Munson. More and more it looks like Balsis. The stance reminds me of him, that scrunched up shoulder. The tall guy in back is not Lassiter.

I know this is an old thread, but I gotta say I love that all the players are wearing suits and ties. Real class. Any idea when the suit and tie went to the side lines in major tournaments?
