With only a couple of days to go, Reyes is not currently on the players list.

Currently, there are 203 names on the list. Shannon isn't on the list yet but I know he is playing, who knows how many more last minute sign-ups they will have. Barry may be closer to filling this up thatn we thought he would.(if all of the people on the list actually play)

All of the other Philipino players are currently on the list. If Reyes was going to be there, I think he would be traveling with some of them and he would be on the list. Of course, I'm just guessing.

I think Earl is the greatest 9ball player that ever lived. He was an offensive juggernaut that nobody could touch when he was on.

Efren did give Earl a taste of his own medicine on the last day of TCOM in Hong Kong where they played for $100,000(though I think they made a 25k/75k saver beforehand). Once Efren got his break working, Earl basically just sat there and watched Efren run everything out. In about 30 racks Earl only made 2 or 3 mistakes, and he lost the whole thing from having a 17 rack lead on Efren.

Efren's the greatest all-around player ever, IMHO. And I also think that Earl will always be the greatest 9ball player in the history of the game.

Filipino pool player Rodolfo Luat aka Boy Samson
is playing in the US Open!
And I kid you not!

:)

Efren and Earl

Efren - Earl reminds me of Ali - Frazier , Farve - Montana 1 thing is for certain they are all champions.

I think it would be AWESOME if either Efern or Earl wins the open again.

So what exactly is the point of this thread? Are you only looking for people to agree with you? Seriously, you basically said you don't want opposing opinions. You could be right, Efren may never win another US Open. Who cares? He's done enough over his illustrious career that no one in our lifetime will ever come close to. He's what, damn near 55 years old now isn't he? Saying he'll never win another US Open is like saying that Micheal Jordan will never win another NBA championship.

Efren will not win the Open this year......

Efren ?Bata?Reyes is undergoing medical checkup, while current world no.1 Dennis Orcollo and former world champion Alex Pagulayan are set to compete in the Grand Finals of the Guinness 9-Ball Tour in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is slated on October 24.

sorry had to chime in-earl and efren played some of the best taped or final matches in the 80s and 90s
they are both a little older and a little less feared
ask any us open champion and they will tell you that aside from playing
great you need the rolls too
those guys made there own rolls
they cant do it for five and six day periods with long breaks in between-its too tough-
so continue on gents theres only 253 other guys showing up this weekend lol

I agree. I give Efren greatest all around but for 9-ball Earl ruled the roost. As for TCOM match, my personal opinion is that on that third day Earl was too irritable. On day 2 he was focused and playing lights out. I think I read somewhere that he had 16 break run outs within something like 27 racks or something? Jesus. On day 3 he just seemed pissed at the world and I think that's what beat him. If he had been able to keep the focus he had on day 2 I think the outcome would have been him winning with at least a 25 game lead. Not to take anything away from Efren though. God knows I'd never talk against the Magician.

If you look back at Efren's tournament history you will find when the $$ is way up there he is a favorite to win it. I think he has won a larger percentage of the top $$ tournaments than anyone. If they made 1st place $250,000 for the US Open I think he would instantly become the favorite to win.

I hope Efren's OK. Anyone know what his examination is for?

Actually and very Oddly I do know. I don't think it right to go into it. But I will say that I don't take it to be very serious. Hopefully just poor timing with the Open.

I just happened to be next to someone when he texted them.

Others here may know more and care to divulge more.

He was supposed to come to my local room for a few days. I would have loved to have seen him but I wish him good health.

That's an easy thing to say, player X won't win the U S Open. Ask your friend who he thinks is going to win the U S Open and what kind of odds he will take. Give us a name.
Can't do that. My friend has no desire to be an AZB member nor does he want to be known in the Internet world. It was just a conversation between him and I. And no, it is not an easy thing to say simply because of how great Efren is. I am merely stating it is VERY difficult for him to win this thing again because of the factors I listed in my OP.

Anything is possible....

I always think that anything is possible in sports. Reyes is out of the Open this year but he could very well pull another win before retiring.

You're not making a very difficult statement.

To say Efren will have a difficult time winning the Open, you only have a 1 in 256 chance of being wrong, assuming a full field.
If you really want to say something, tell us who will win. Assuming a full field, 255 players will lose, but only one will win.

The bottom line is, it will be very difficult for anyone to win the Open. It will take a combination of a lot of skill and a lot of luck to win.

Yeah, he could win another US Open but it's doubtful. I never disagreed with the original poster I just didn't like the way he presented his case like "Reyes won't win another open, I'm right and don't try to talk against it." I think the only thing preventing Reyes from winning the Open again would be stamina. At his age if he really wants to remain at the top of the heap he'll need to get into a very good dietary/exercise regimen to keep himself in shape.
