Not true...Richie Richerson played somebody every night for good money...and so did Chris Gentile.

The action award winner should be at DCC for it's duration.

I was sweating some of Richie's action. Gentile played alot, but the money he won from Kirkus money made that much easier. I can understand your statement about them being there the whole time, but I like the idea of Kirkus having incentive to stay through the event.

I may be biased since he didn't get it the first year he was there. I would almost guarantee he's the biggest loser in the history of the tournament. Two years ago he lost $70K and this year $50K. The first weekend he was the only reason for almost half the sets played whether he staked, played, or put in to bring up the money.

Action Award

Richie Richerson

When he wasn't in the action room, he was in one of the side rooms playing.

Why should it be important if he has lost a lot, even most in history? I would rather give the award to people winning, if not it becomes an award you can simply buy. Just lose enough and you'll get it

I agree. I don't think the dollar amount should mean much. Sure, not $100/sets... but if someone is playing $500-5000/sets for the whole week, day and night, that should put them in the running.

Though its silly logic to buy an award like this, losing that much money. Hard to climb out of a hole like that. Would be cheaper to pay for the hotel rooms every year!

Just a reminder the the Roberts award is also based on the entertainment
factor.
There are some players that can't win it if they won or lost a billion.

The award turned into a joke the past few years.

Maybe the voting structure could be improved. How @ something like: Have a committee of entrusted, knowledgeable people come to a consensus on their #1, 2 and 3 choices. They get 50% of the voting "weight" and then all other votes carry the other 50%.

I don't know what turned out to be the problem the last few years in your eyes Watchez, but I suspect the votes may have been skewed by people making a "popular" vote for friends, etc...

I agree with this. It is the Louis Roberts Award and keep in mind, Louis Roberts was NOT only a bigtime gambler, he was a world class pool player. He won alot of the time and was GIVING UP the weight most of the time he played.

The person who wins this thing is going to be joining people like SVB, Alex, Tony Watson, Frost, these guys are players. Ya Scooter got there by playing heaps and getting huge spots in gaff games, but most of the people who have won the Louis Roberts Award are pro level pool players who gamabled alot, they are the people that would be a peer of Louis Roberts and IMO that is the people that should win this award.

If I win the lotto can I just come out and put out a bunch of bets like a goof in weird gaff games shooting behind the back with a rest while standing on one foot, lose 100k and be a shoe in to win the award and get my face and name on the DCC website? Do we really want the award to devolve to that?

Scooter is actually a pretty good example FOR this award. It's "action and entertainment"...... He is always in action, and entertaining. He stirs the pot, wherever he is. Is there anyone there who is entertaining? I don't remember seeing or hearing of anyone during the bank event?

Depends what type of entertainment you are looking for I guess. Scooter is a good talker and riles up the room and the crowd. Efren, another huge gambler who some people find somewhat entertaining is the complete opposite being generally quiet, reserved, and one of the most skilled pool players on the planet.

Who is more entertaining in action, Scooter or Efren? Who do the fans want to watch play for cash at the end of the day?

It hasn't meant nearly as much IMO since the derby has moved to the casino. In the old action room, there were champions playing large sets all the time. You could walk in there at any time and see Cliff, Shane, Alex, Efren, Darren, etc. all playing big sets.

The first year of the move (2009), Shane still got into some action, partially encouraged by Justin and TAR. After that, it is rare to see any of the big guns putting in work.
