2016 BCAPL Payouts

It seems to me that too many league players are *****ing here. When the pros ***** most of you tell them not to play if they don't like it. League players have the same choice...stay home. Johnnyt

I do stay home. I didn't like the way my money was being spent and certain policies CSI has so quit my bcapl league. I believe it was after the Swannee event two years ago. They're doing fine without me but I'm not going to contribute.

I don't know, just seems like a big number to me. $191,000. I get that bringing in tables isn't cheap and hanging lights requires casino Union staff etc. just, $191,000 is a lot of money.

It just "seems" like a big number. There in lies the problem. It sounds like a lot of money so it must be crooked. With absolutely no math or perspective to back it up other than that's a lot of money in your world. My advice? Keep whatever wage job you have, you're not up to entrepreneurialship until you get a clue.

And from 700 teams to 400, seems like many are doing just that. You used to not even be able to walk down thru the isles between the tables when matches were going on.

There is one word, one reason for the decline. I hope that BCAPL gets it figured out.

I'm sure there are several factors causing the decline in attendance, some of which are out of CSI's control, but I would say the three biggest factors are:

1. Moving the date to later in the summer
2. Moving the venue slightly off strip to the Rio
3. People not being able to afford to go

Most New Yorkers never pay retail or they do W/O. Johnnyt

The bottom line is this....First week in May, is the perfect/time and should be set in stone, like the 4th of July. Very few places on the planet are HOT then YET, and pool players like the warmth and the pool on both ends .
It's like when corporate BCA moved the trade show to the E. Coast, HUGE Miscue.
People like Vegas, but NOT when it's 110 degrees outside, which it WAS when I passed thru around June 4-5th this year.
With the planet being warmer, it's even more good reason to not go to VEGAS when it's their hottest time of year.
Probably best to move the venue off site out in the desert some where, and avoid the corporate Vegas Control of the 8 ball play times. All the office see's is when it's their SLOWEST time of year, and then give it to the pool players, that's how it's really playing out. The office could car less about the game itself.

Thanks for the advice, big shot. I hope to someday be an entrepreneur like you someday. Until then, I'll keep my crap "wage job".

I may be in the minority, but I happen to like the move to July. The reason being is that I still have a kid in school, but do not have any relatives in town for them to stay with if me and my wife go out of town. With the July date, we can drop the kid off with relatives for a week in July and we can go to Vegas and play in the tournament (have a short vacation just the two of us). When the tournament was in mid-May we were not able to do that.

Another issue, along the same lines, was when the tournament was in mid-May; without a doubt, someone on the team would not be able to make the tournament due to a high school or college graduation that they had to attend.

I personally have never known anyone who did not go to the tournament specifically because it was too hot in Vegas. I have however, known quite a few miss the tournament due to a kid graduating from high school or college. Granted, I live in a part of the country that is also hot as hell and going to Vegas is a way to escape sweltering humidity.

To be honest, IMHO, the reduction on the numbers attending the tournament probably has a lot more to do with the downturn in the economy over the past years than any other single factor. Basically, a large amount of players do not have the extra disposable income to drop on a trip to Vegas.

IB,

I also attend both the ACS Nationals and the VNEA "Worlds" in May. Unless the numbers I was told are vastly inflated, both events are larger today than in past years. Flights to Vegas are no less expensive. The Tropicana and Bally's sure aren't cheap. Only the Trop has no door nazis. Unfortunately the Trop also has no real food court. Rick Jones does a great job of running the BCAPL event. Gary Benson does the same at APA, ACS and VNEA. Must be a different reason.

You are a smart guy Lyn -- you will figure it out.

And it's not the economy. The economy is wayyyy better than it was 4 or 5 years ago but attendance keeps going down.

And nothing in Vega$ is cheap anymore except for Uber. Uber in Vega$ as of 3 months ago is a god send. You can go from the Wynn to the Rio for $6.50. In a cab that would be $13-$15 plus tip. I suggest anyone going to Vega$ get the app if you don't have it. Every Uber I was in was immaculately clean too and all the drivers were friendly and polite. Some offered you a bottle of water or candy.

No hotel in that city is gonna be cheap. If they have 5,000 - 7,000 people coming in, they will jack up the price because of it if they were one of the ultra cheap hotels.

In My State...

In my state the organization pays back 100% of the entry fee to the payouts. They charge a greens fee and a admin fee that are deducted, that final number, the entry fee, is paid out to the players 100% plus added money. The greens fees and admin fee is used to cover all the tournament expenses and any left over money is put in the bank. The greens fees are determined by the estimated expenses for the upcoming tournament. Unused money is sometimes used used for added money the next year or to bring a pro in to play challenge matches with the players. If you notice, the $800,000 in payouts was removed from the BCAPL flyers this year or at least I couldn't find it.
