2023 World Cup of Pool (WCOP) 27June-2July, Spain (Winner $60K per team)

The book is dreaming to have USA the number one. I'd probably put Vietnam above them. I wonder if they really get bets or this is all a flyer marketing bs with nothing behind it.
There are several bookmakers putting up their offers on this event. Dunno how their lines compare to this one.

Off topic, I haven't watched tennis since the early 2000's. Did Venus and Serena end up being considered the top female tennis players of all time? Is that how they are looked at today?

Albin and Mario look very rusty, all of a sudden. It's impossible to imagine these are 2-time winners (with a runners-up in between those)

Australia (not Austria) is on hill 6-3 about to eliminate Austria
This WCOP could follow the pattern of Spanish Open with big names knocked out and no big names making the final 😆

Serena, hands down the GOAT.
Venus didn't come close to her sister.

On topic, Australia has a great chance to close it out but missed an easy 1 ball on the hill. Austria poised to take the rack.

That GOAT debate came down to grand slams/majors Serena 23 vs Steffi 22 (There were other criteria debated like level of competition during Serena's time was much tougher than Steffi)
Those in Serena camp say it is quantity 23. Those in Steffi camp say it is quality of her wins- Steffi had Grand slam wins more evenly across different surfaces so better all arounder. Also she won calender golden Slam.
I am with Steffi camp cos I am Steffi fan

I tend to disagree with such an example, Stu. Serena past her best times of the career vs Chua/DD in their prime is very different.
Yes, the circumstances were different, but the point is that Serena was still among the best few when she was being given poor seeds. Her expected performance wasn't enough to secure a high seed, because tennis penalizes non-participation by awarding zero ranking points to those who skip an event.

Matchroom has given us a meritocracy in which rankings dictate both invitations and seeding. Pool has needed this for many years. Seeding was never and will never be based on predicted performance. Seeding is based on ranking, which is based on recent performance. The favoritism that got in the way of delivering the best fields in pool is slowly fading away and, personally, I couldn't be happier about it.

Nonetheless, I understand your point. Seeding based on ranking doesn't necessarily ensure the strongest possible field, but it is fair and it delivers consistenty superb fields.

Australia pukes all over themselves and Austria takes it. Yikes.
Yes, a little hard to believe. Yes, Australia missed the winning nine ball, but they WON the safety battle at double hill and failed to run out with a pretty simple layout.

Let's see if Austria can build on this most improbable escape.

Greece looked like a couple of B players....Pagulayan was right there with them. Partners pool in a short race making these guys look weak.

If having zero class is counted as a demerit....Serena is 2nd best.

So as you've seen from these responses, the answer is: Serena maybe, (in what sport is the greatest of all time NOT hotly debated? Maybe ice hockey), Venus definitely not. She had the misfortune of still being in her prime when her sister entered hers.

Interestingly however, Serena retired last year at age 40, while Venus is still out there at 43. She's obviously not the player she used to be and is now ranked #554 in the world. But she will still get "wild cards" (tournament/sponsor invitations) probably from almost any tournament she likes, and she did indeed take a wild-card slot at the WTA tour event in Birmingham, UK last week and didn't embarrass herself - she beat the world #67 in the first round and took the world #17 to 3 sets (hill-hill in a race to two, in poolese) in the second round.

I think part of the issue is that Venus has suffered poor health in terms of injuries and illness

Marc Bijsterbosch en Niels Feijen going to play in a couple hours. Curious how Marc has recuperated from his painfull loss.
