3/8x10 / 3/8x11

The first number is the OD of the threads, the second is how many threads per inch.
They are definitely not interchangeable!

but the joint protector of my 3/8x10, fits my friend's 3/8x11 cue.

Joint protectors have loose thread.
10 threads per inch is a lot looser than 11 threads per inch.
If you want to ruin a shaft, go ahead try it.

Ha ha, I'm sorry
That was indeed sarcasm........as I thought the OP was

I couldn't help but post a snarky reply....my bad

Since we're on the subject of joints and threads, is the joint pin on a Schon a standard 5/16-18, or is it unique to Schons?

I'm just curious.

TIA, cd.

It's actually 5/18-14. And yes, it is a standard thread.

You actually meant 5/16-14 and no a schon is not. Schon uses an undersized pin. You can thread almost any 5/16-14 shaft onto a Schon joint pin but try putting a Schon shaft onto a standard 5/16-14 joint pin and it binds before it can be threaded on all the way.

While there are some Schon's out there with a .302X14, they also use a standard 5/16X14. Now the tricky part, 5/16X14 screws depending on the supplier you get them from, can run anywhere from .306, .308 and .310 and they do not all have the same depth as far as pitch. I believe the old Mali's used a .298X14 for their quick release. Other candidates for the odd undersized 14 screw were, Paradise, Schuler. Let's not leave out the 5/16X14 acme screw, somewhere in the neighborhood of .323

I just bought a 3/8x10 314-2 shaft, and it'll fit any cue that has a mcdermott style 3/8x10 pin, but it won't fit my 3/8x10 cues with the threads that are rounded off at the edges! Can anyone explan. Thanks

The minor diameter of the threads is different. The shaft can be bored, drilled or reamed to a .308 minor diameter to fit both styles of 3/8x10 joint pins.

And don't forget rolled pins.
