5 hour energy drink

Caffiene and B vitamins are pretty mild.

I did get jittery some of the times I've taken it and other times it didn't bother me at all. When I'm tired it really helps. I havn't used it for pool. Only for work or working around the house.

All my pool playing is done between 5 am and 6 am at home. :groucho:

NO DRUGS IN POOL. Johnnyt

yea, oh and look!....there goes the tooth fairy and Santa playing a race to 9 :)

sadly, as long as ANYTHING can give a player a boost, it will be abused. I guess we could say coffee, soda, energy drinks are drugs of a mello type but still drugs none the less!

I just drink a steady stream of Diet Mountain Dews, and if that does not work I will snort a 10 inch fat line of bolivian nose candy. Just kidding, I have always just drank diet cokes and mountain dews and have rarely had too many issues. When I go over 20 hours I will go to the bathroom about every hour and wash my face off with cold water and generally tell my self to quit dogging it and hang in their beotch.

Personally, I like to take a break, go outside, and run a lap or two around the block. Get that blood flowing. I also like to have a few bags of Ginkgo-biloba tea in my cue case. Just ask the waitress for a cup of hot water, slice of lemon, and your choice of sweetener (if you use any). The great thing about Ginkgo-biloba is that it's a natural concentration enhancer. It's subtle -- you won't "immediately notice" the difference after a few sips like you would with coffee, but as you go along drinking it, you'll find you can concentrate and stay focused better and longer. It won't prevent you from going home and having a good night's rest, either. (In fact, quite the contrary -- you'll have deep sleep with lively dreams.) If you're in a pool room where the chance of getting "jarred" is a possibility, make sure you keep your cup of Ginkgo-biloba tea covered.

The waitress at my pool hall is name "Rocky". I'm not so sure that he can spell "tea" let alone make a cup!

The caffeine in a 5 Hour is only equivalent to 1 cup of coffee. It is the B vitamins and amino acids that are really what make you alert. I have heard some players (top notch) swear by them and know one in particular that will not play without them. Others don't care for them. It is just like any other kind of performance enhancer in that you need to trust your gut in what you can handle. Really depends on physical shape and how healthy you are. A guy that works out and does cardio should have no problem taking two 5 hr energy shots in a 10 to 12 hour period.

Good post, you are absolutely correct.

It has the equivilent of 1 cup of coffee. Unless one cup of coffee makes you shake like a "crack baby" then your shaking for other reasons. I take this for work on night shift alot. What I do notice is I focus alot better on top of having energy. The focus comes from the Tyrosine that is in it.
There is no crash for me with this. I took this once playing pool gambling on a allnighter. I ended up taking 2 of them but I think that was to much for me. One was plenty and helped me get by until I caught my second wind.

Personally I would recommend 5 hour energy drinks. I drink one every now and then and like others have stated it makes me feel quite alert. I do not get jittery at all and rarely feel any crash affects.

The other energy drinks such as redbull and monster do make me feel jittery and also give me gas that will clear a 40 table room ;)

Last night I played in a tournament from 7:30 PM to 1:30 AM.
Being 63 years old I faded badly. Has anybody used 5 hour energy drink for pool or ? Does it work and were there any side effects? Also for those that have used it.Do you take it before you play or when you start to fade.

they actually work good for me, i drink them once in a while, I dont get jittery or strung out on them. I dont like stimilants as a rule. I took one Adderall once-didnt know what it was, thats a whole nother topic, my God I was a mess. LOL, I mention that to emphisise the point that if your sensitive to stimulants the 5 hour thingies are good action. Try drinking a half of one and then half 2 hours later. I sip them.

Red Bull is useless, I can drink it and fall to sleep for 12 hours, I just mention this because I believe that people respond to a product/drug differently than other people. I have a friend who drinks a Red Bull and its like he is on meth, It makes me sleepy.

Mountain Dew is another good plan, Archer drinks it 24/7 litterly, I drink it when I gamble sometimes. If it didnt make me fat i'd drink it 24/7 too-I did back in the earily 80's playing video games at the arcades, drank a case a day for years, made me fat. Diet Mt Dew is phoney ballony. Give Mt Dew a try, as well as the 5 hr stuff and keep on winning,

which cue you using? it dosent hurt my feelings if your not using the cue I sent you-you have to use whats best for your game.

Ha ha ha! That's very funny! Well, just ask "him" for a cup of hot water. You'll "make" the tea, as I mentioned above -- just keep a couple tea bags in your cue case in a little ziploc bag.

Thanks for the laugh!

The OP is in his late or was it earily 60's so starting with 1/2 bottles of 5hr is a good Idea, Mr. Sward below your post I quoted here uses 1/2 bottles. when the average person hits 60-70 meds, vit's, caffine etc. in some cases are much stronger as their bodies metoblise them slower/differently than a 20,40, year old person. At 80+ years old you have to be real careful.

My dad RIP was perscribed Vike's for pain they were the 7.5/500 size. He was about 75 at the time(a old 75) and just one of those pain pills turned him into the exorcist like in that old movie for 8 hours-we had to tie him down, he went bat shit crazy like nuthing I EVER saw. If anyone of us was there they wouldnt have believed that one little pill would do all that. You had to be there to see it to believe how much he reacted from one Vike, hell I bet 70% of posters here have taken them at some point. Any 40 year old man could eat one of them and might get a little buz, if they were 100% clean. Pill poppers can take 50 of them a day cause they have a opiate tollarance.

my whole point is its prudent for anyone over 60 to be careful thats all. Hope you been good 1on1 have a happy turkeyday buddy!

I've never tried the 5-hour stuff but a co-worker of mine gave me one which I keep for emergency purposes.

I usually take from 5-10 mg of B-12 per day which does help the overall energy output from this half-century-old frame. The B-12 IMO does what it says, boosts energy without a caffeine-style crash. The real drag about oral B-12 is that your body only assimilates something like 1% or so.

I'm generally a coffee or Monster Khaos man for drinks to increase the voltage.

This 5-hour stuff is worth a look, though- Costco sells cases of 24 for something around $37.99 here...

When I'm fading, I do pushups. No bull. I'll wait till my opponent goes to the bathroom and then drop down and do 25 or so. It really gives me an energy boost.

I'm not into putting poison into my body, which is what most of the typical US diet is.

They now make a decaf version.

I used to drink 5 hour energy all the time and the decaf is the best for an intense workout. For anything less than an intense workout you can actually benefit from the caffeine. My doctor said the amount of caffeine in a single cup of coffee can help increase your workout efficiency quite a bit.

Caffeine from tea is the least jitter-inducing kind out there. I used to drink an Inko's white tea energy drink every once in a while... but I've started drinking a ton of black tea instead, and it's working great. I have a 2 year old so I'll drink a bunch of tea the day after a poor night of sleep. The heat and the mild caffeine will wake me up for a solid hour... and I'll just keep making more tea throughout the day.

If I didn't have time to make tea I'd just keep ordering Inko's white tea energy. That stuff is a life-saver when you have a baby :p

I have really been thinking about trying the P90X program. Is it pretty legit then? By that I mean, worth the money. :p

My neighbor was telling me about it and I seen the results he had. My daughter that lives about 40 miles away started the program because of the results she seen from her coworkers. After the 90 days besides losing weight and some inches she dropped 2 minutes off her mile times when she ran in the Det Marathon due to the weight she lost and muscle gain.

I lost 4 inches off of my waist and almost have the 6 pack that I have always wanted. Plus my overall health, stamina, and strength has increased.

You will need to invest in a food scale and a good heart rate monitor, chin bar and bands or dumbells plus follow the dietary guidelines to get the results. I actually had to eat more to lose weight. After the first week I could see daily results in the mirror.

The heart rate monitor that I have shows calories burned and each workout burns about 600. It is not easy but you just do what you can and the results will happen.

I am almost 65 and can now do a total of 50+ pull ups and chins during a the chest and back workout plus do all 339 ab ripper reps.

Is it worht the money? Depends on how much effort and dedication you put into it. For me it is worth more because of the results and what I have learned about eating properly.

Google P90x and look at the results on Utube.

Look at the other products on Beach Body. There are some that are not as strenuous and might be better to start with. There is a fit test to take to show if you are in good enough shape to even attempt P90X.

The 5 or 6 hour energy drinks are good in moderation for those looking for a pick-me-up. If you've never taken them before, I would go with half a bottle at first to see what your tolerance is. If a half bottle gets you jittery, then they just aren't for you.

A lot of what has already been posted above is spot on. One thing that you can do to simulate the effects of these energy drinks is this: buy a dropper bottle from GNC or your local health food store of B-12 complex, and a bottle of ginko-biloba tablets. Before your tournament begins, about an hour before, take 1-2 dropper full of the B-12 and mix it with your favorite, non-carbonated drink, and two ginko pills. It will give you the same pick-me-up feeling, with increased concentration as the 5-hour energy drinks, without the stimulants such as caffeine.

Another way to make sure your energy and focus level is at a higher level is to do some sort of aerobic activity a few hours before your tournament. Nothing too strenuous, as you do not want to wear yourself out. But enough to get a good sweat going. Distress your body just a little, and make sure the activity lasts for longer than 30 minutes. The 30 minutes is key, because at approximately the 22-minute mark, (it's different for each person), your brain releases endorphins. These make you feel "good"...and the effects last through the day. If you've ever been out running and all of a sudden felt a little buzz, kinda like you're high, (not light headed, or dizzy....OK OK...insert joke here. :) ), that's the endorphins kicking in. It's a hormone produced by your body, and it will give you a euphoric feeling.

I'm getting a little side tracked here, but the long-term effects throughout the day is an increased ability to focus, increased stamina, and overall well being.

Hope this helped out!

Last Resort!

I take pride in managing my nutrition during big pool tournaments. I'm always very conscious of how much time i have in between matches and what the appropriate intake for my body is in order to sustain my energy both physical and mental.

A few weeks ago however I was forced to call on a 5 hour energy. I was in the finals of the US Amateur Championships and was in the later stages of the match. I started to feel myself fading because I had been sitting for about 4 hours before the match started due to delays and the lengthy hill hill match that the women's division played in the finals. In any case I called for a 5 hour energy from my group of supporters. Luckily Mike Davis carries one in his bag. He passed it over and it gave me that extra boost I needed to cross the finish line convincingly.

In my case I won't ever take one before a match unless i'm just dead tired or am starting to feel a downward shift in energy. Then I'll go ahead and take something like a 5 hour energy.

I keep a bottle of 5 hour energy in my cue case for times when i'm feeling run down and trying to play pool. We play long days in our ACS tournaments and that's when 5 hour energy works best for me. I usually wait to take it until i've been playing for a while and I notice my energy slipping a little. I haven't noticed any jittery effects from taking it and I get a boost in my energy from it.
