I was playing one hole last night on a 9 foot diamond and on this game it was my break. So i break with the normal one hole break and get lucky and make a ball and end up running 8 and out for the first time ever in one pocket. I'm pretty proud of it so i thought i better post and here and let you guys know.

Alright Todd! Good Job. I have yet to get that. I got 7 once but was getting 9-7 for 50 a game. I didnt want to go for the 8 and out, I am too tight, lol. Come doen to Des Moines and play me some. I would come up to Fort Dodge if thats where you are.

Hey Troy i will be in des moines on the 29th i might come down the 28th to see SVB play. Haha i really don't play that good one hole i just happen to be shooting well last night, I'm just starting to learn the game. But sure look around for me next weekend i'll play some with you. Maybe i can get another lucky 8 N Out.

Congrats on your run...everyone blue moon or so I will run 8 off the break but it, for me at least, is very tough to do. Things need to fall just right. Got to make a ball, have a second shot, break out the balls correctly and then finish off the rack. This is a milestone for a one hole player. Congrats on doing it.

On a side note...i saw a fellow at the DCC one handed one pocket tournament break and run 8 and out one handed, off the the rail. I was quite impressed. I will never forget it. Probably one of the most impressing games of one hole I have ever seen played. He was not a famous player either...at least, I didnt know him. He was foreign and he sounded russian or eastern european.

Back when I was single...I used to cruise up to Chicago pretty regularly and I would end up playing this certain dude equal numbers of sets of 9B and sets of 1P. This was the only way we could match up that didn't result in a blow out. He didn't like the 9B action and I didn't like the 1P action...so we would generally break even.

On one particularly good weekend (for me), I won both ends of the bet...I made the corner ball three breaks in a row on him!

In my home town Storm Lake there isn't any 9 footers so the one hole i get to play in my home town is done on bar boxes. i shoot league in fort dodge and they have the 9' daimond there. I'm really starting to like one pocket a lot more shooting on a 9' instead of the bar boxes. I'm looking forward to shooting a lot more on 9's in the future. i just wish i was a little taller.....

Storm Lake, I was born there but never lived there, I lived in Newell for a while when I was growing up. Ask some old timers about Elmer's in Newell. That's where I played when I was a kid, the only tables in the place were a 3 cushion table and some snooker tables.

Are you going to school there or have you lived there all your life?

i wish i had a girl if i did i would call her....

yea born and raised in Storm Lake. we still have one old snooker table here i use to play on a lot. i like going out of town to play because the level of play in my town is worthless.....

I played 1-pocket race to 11 once, and the guy I played got the first break. He made a ball and ran out, 1 - 0. On my break I made a ball and ran out, 1 - 1. Then he ran out once more from his break! 2 - 1!!!

2 - 1 after something like 10 minutes :D

It went to 2 - 2, and then on his 3rd break he made a ball once again, but scratched too... phuh... But after that break there was no more balls going on the breaks

Nice run-out! Eight and out on the break is something to brag about. Actually, you have to be able to play pretty good to do that. Much harder than running a rack of 9-Ball. You made some good shots in your run, didn't you?

As far as your height restrictions, it's no big deal. Take a look around and you will see many shorties playing some outstanding pool. Let's see, there's Parica, Alex, Santos, Marcus, Rafael, Tommy Kennedy, the late great Boston Shorty and many more I'm forgetting. None of these guys is over 5'4". Mosconi was the same height as me, 5'7". Ginky and Dennis Orcullo are little guys too.

Learn to play with both hands and you will never have any problems, and also learn how to use the bridge. Shorty was the master with the bridge. Good luck and remember the best move in One Pocket is "Eight and Out!"

hello Jay

Hey jay what's up? i use to shoot a lot of snooker so i got good with a bridge pretty quick so i do alright i just wish i was around 6'6 or so haha. Yes i made some good shots but really i just played real tight postion on about 4 of those balls went into a cluster that come out just like i planned for it to and the combanation i shot worked just like i wanted to. i played about 5 games of 1p before my eight and out agaist a player that can play pretty good. they move a lil better than i do but i'm learning quick and won two games out of the 5. when the game goes up table i get lost and confused on what to do pretty quick but it is coming along i learn more every time i play. After i went 8 and out i thought to myself dang that is a whole lot easyer than all the moves and stuff haha. i read a lot of your posts Jay and thanks a lot for the congrats. i'm looking forward to playin on the 9's again as soon as i can. on a side note i'm going to the DCC this year to play in the 9-ball so i figure i better start playing on big table diamonds as much as i can.

hi

i hope this does not come off as bragging but it reminded me of something i was messing around with a couple of years ago.i was playing 14.1 and accidentally figured out a way to make one on the break in one pocket like half the time.the table had brand new cloth big pockets and polished balls but still i could not believe what i was doing.the balls had to be racked tight but i called bob hunter and said bob if efren would give me the break on this table i would win and he said what are talking about.so i sent a video to him and showed him.if i remember correctly i broke the balls 21 times and made a ball with a shot and without selling out like 14 times.also of that 14 i made seven in a row thats without selling out to the other hole mind you. anyway using that break i managed to break and run 15,15 and14 back to back to back.my best breaking and taking ball in hand is 15,15,15,15,14 and i had some people see that.corey deul showed me how to break them and it worked great. ive tried to use that break on other tables and have had trouble but with new cloth and the balls tapped in im sure they would break perfect again.later guys john schmidt.

Hell I'd brag too if I could shoot like that.

Congrats on the run out. I remember my first 8 and out, it came against Patrick Johnson (you know, the technical guy... squirt, deflection, etc.) when we met up at Chris's in Chicago a while back. Since then I've done it every now and again but not as often as I've had the opportunity to, if that makes any sense.

My longest run in 1p was 9 and out. I owed one but forgot. I ran 8 and was all ready to strut around when my opponent said hey you owe one. I remember panicking because I hadn't played shape for anything. So I looked at the stack (more of a small cluster at that point) and found a combo or carom or something, shot at it and it went in. I then proceeded to strut.:D

John S. you just busted my bubble. I was in a small game in Northern CAl abouot 40 years ago. I broke and made a ball on the break and ran to the 11 that I needed when my opponant said to continue shooting. I ran all 15.

Next game I broke and again make a ball on the break and continued to ran all except the last ball that was a straight in shot. I dogged it for nothing.

What you have done puts my experience to shame. Oh! By the way that break Corey showed you to make a ball on the break wasn't that wide open break he use to do, was It? Just kidding.

.... I wish I had a girl who looked good
I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
