9 ball push rule question

pushing my spot ball in

if you a playing for $$ and getting weight, in this case I was getting the 8, the other guy breaks, makes a ball but has no good shot, so he calls "push" and deliberately pockets the 8 ball.

Question is, does the 8 come back up?

This is a question of breech of contract. You weren't aware that he would trick you out of your spot ball. That wasn't understood when making the game so the rules are unclear and the game should stop until you clear it up. Obviously you're morally right. He's trying to get over, but he's technically not wrong either so start again and pick better opponents to play with. I hope the bet wasn't too high.

the 8's the other guy's money ball so it has to come up. just like him pocketing the 9 when he pushes

Lol i just noticed your az handle!!!!!!!!!!! how's the architecture business? is it as recession proof as i imagined?

the shot is legal and the ball is not spotted. The fact that it is one of your money balls does not factor into the equation.

what type of crazy talk is this? if that was the case why wouldn't the guy just push and pocket the 8 after the break ever time he had a shot at it. then they'd be playing even and there'd be no penalty for doing it

well, I guess that just makes me an a**hole then, but this is the way i have played both when giving, and receiving similar spots unless it what brought up during negotiation of said game/set. Moral of the story..ask specific questions such as this when matching up. Some people and/or pool rooms play with different rules, know and understand them and if you do not, ask questions.

Who do you play that lets you get away with that move? the 8 comes up. you cant just take away weight. if you shot the 9 in it comes back up because it's a game ball. the spot balls are no different

if the ball doesn't spot then it's a loss of game or the money gets unposted

You can't "push" spot balls in nor can you make them on a foul. The opponent can make them legally anytime he/she wants to (combos, break, etc.).

Otherwise, you can play a total loser and spot them the 5 ball (who can't play a lick).....break, make a ball, shoot the 5 in a push--- and play even from there. It's ludicrous --- nobody plays like that who actually gambles. This thread sounds like a green some college kid thinks he just figured something out, sheesh.

If you gamble you know any ball on call or wild that you are getting or giving for weight comes back up and spots unless made on a combo or the break or in rotation.

Is this thread real?

Yeah and it's full of people that don't actually play. just like the guy with the spider on the face chick said.

I had somebody do this to me in a set to 25, 5 ahead for a couple bucks... I was getting the 8 and without fail even after making balls on the break, or if I came up dry, he would push and drop the 8.... :shakehead:
I say let em do it and just make sure every shot he gets is a kick or jump!! See if that slows his roll any...

BTW, the a$$hole, whos allegedly 2 balls better than me, got beat 25 to 14... :p

Like Henry Rollins said, "see a grown man cry, now watch him die"... gotta love karma :crying::rotflmao1:

Following his logic, when you can, take a push and shoot in the nine. Tell him it stays down. Then double the bet, I like your odds!

Lol. You're a funny man. Sound reasoning. Now he pockets your eight and it stays down and wants to triple the bet.

What were you betting? was it a set to 25 or was it 5 ahead? this thread is funny because it really shows who gambles and who doesn't. it seems like abunch of nits who thought they were smart enough to guess the right answer chimed in

from now on I guess I have to bring my attorney with me when I gamble. I was pretty sure the 8 came back up, I just wanted to post the question to the high council of pool on here. thanks for the input.

Set was 9-ball, race to a minimum of 25 games won, win by 5, for 500... Theoretically it could have been 37 to 32, I believe thats the point of an ahead set. I apologize for not being clear enough with my response...

Lets make The Official Rules of All Games; Pool and Billiards. By The Az Community. Someone should start this thread.

i know how an ahead set works but i got confused when i you said it was a race right after the ahead set part.

So I think the Majority is correct here in that the 8 - ball or any other Money ball of your opponents would spot back up on a Push or Illegal Shot.

They stay down on the break because you made a legal hit on the 1 ball.

Question: So is it common knowledge if I'm getting say the 7 ball and my opponent breaks, makes the 7 and also scratches, that the 7 ball gets spotted back up?

it spots. he cant take away ur advantage every game like that.
its a game ball, it comes up. he doesnt win if he pushes the nine in.

I agree with this, the 8 should be spotted. But if you knock it in, it would stay down. If someone would not play by this rule I would not play them
