I did race to 30 every night for months. My best, I won 30-14. I get pissed when I don't win. I could probably give the ghost 3-4 to 11.

I think it has much to do with the table you are playing on. I am not a bad player and I am not a world beater but the ghost owns me on me on my table:o.

For me playing the ghost still gets down to the break,
if the balls are spread there's at least a chance to run out, if there are
problems the odds go down substantially. I'm probably a high C
low B.

Good way to see what you are rated playing the ghost is, play the ghost for a 1/2 - 1 hour. Scoring - a miss remove a ball, run the table add a ball. At the end of an hour, the balls you are racking is your rating. I have seen many think they could beat the 9 ball ghost and finish with 5 ball rating.

This is very interresting,i cant stand to practise, but i think i will enjoy practising with the ghost,i hate to sound stupid but could you explain the scoring in a little more detail, when u miss u take a ball off table or your score, iam sure its simple but i just dont get the scoring yet.thank you !

So if you're beating the ghost for 45 min and don't get out the last 4 games your rating is 5? Johnnyt

It would be an inaccurate rating, but yes. Give it time to see what you average. It won't take much time to notice that you hover around 6, 7, 8...

The scoring question asked above. Rack all 9 balls and take BIH after break. If you run the rack - add a ball. If you miss a ball - rack again with previous balls then minus a ball.

A person won't shoot 6 all night long, they might bounce between 4-7 or 8. I find the lower number varies more than the upper level.

Ball count scoring (watered down accu-stat version)

6 - .670
7 - .780
8 - .890
9 - 1.000

Anything over 9 I would move to the 10 ball ghost.

Thanks. I'll give it a try when the weather warms up a bit in Tampa. Won't get to 56 all day...was 36 this am. Johnnyt

Hi there,

I don't know how everyone does it but this is how I play the ghost and love it because it can put alot of pressure on you and that's what you need.

You break the balls and then you take ball in hand. It's very simple. If you run out you win the game. If you don't the ghost wins.

Now there are different things you can do to make it a little tougher.

If your beating the ghost you can give the ghost 2 games when you don't get out and you only get one game when you succeed.

Another thing I like to do is get together with a friend. We each take turns playing the ghost just like we are playing an opponent. We bet $5 or $10 on a race to 11.

Last time i did this my friend was a AA player so he got 2 games when he won and the ghost only got 1. Myself on the other hand only got 1 game when I won and the ghost got 2. This can really put the pressure on you even though your not betting alot of money. You can do this with a friend and really have some fun because your really just competeing with yourself.

This is a great way to get ready for everything.

We put a new twist into it also. If there is a rack that we just don't think you can get out on and you play a great safe so the ghost would have to kick at the ball the rack is a wash. You start over. But only after your friend has tried to get a good hit and has been unsuccessful. If he gets the hit and hooks you back the rack still counts. So it better be a good safe. Plus sometimes no jump cues.

This really teaches both players to go after these good safeties and puts a little twisrt to it.

Have fun playing the ghost and try doing it like this with a friend.

Have a great day. geno............

I do something similar to this, but I play 3 ahead sets with the ghost. If i get up 3, I add a ball, and start over. And vise versa for the ghost.

This was im not changing the number of balls every game, and a couple bad rolls on the break doesn't force you to move down in the difficulty.

I play the ghost everyday but it's usually the 8 ball ghost. On a bar box 9 ball ghost races to 5 I rarely lose. 8 ball on the other hand seems to be a lot harder. I would say I only win 1 out of 3. Mostly because I have tendinitis so my break is really lacking. I think your precision has to be more precise with the initial run out playing 8 ball.

i think you should use defenses when playing the nine ball ghost. defense should be practiced as well.

Would you change your mind if you heard the ghosts are buying....
..Efren?

I have a conspiracy theory.
The ghosts have been losing their cash lately.
They're lobbying for smaller pockets....
..many people thought it was vain poolplayers doing this
