A Apology to Hal (The Vol Nation)

Hal, After recieving a rep point from you, Must of been for something semi-witty cause i am not a deep thinker. I DID NOT thank you. I chit you not, not a day or 2 goes by that I ask myself, is it proper to thank a person for a rep? I did not thank you and the rep was given on 7-17-07. I could of Thanked you in a PM, a apology should be a public thing. My thinking is it makes a person a little better in some way. Hal my deepest apology for not acknowledgeing your rep! To the board thanks for tolerating me. Thanks for the rep Hal! Sincerly Charlie D

You ARE right. I've had several give me rep that I haven't thanked.
Now I feel like an inconsiderate louse.:o :o

I do not agree. Rep does not require thanks. On occasion, if the written comments made when I receive rep are especially generous, I'll send a PM to the sender.

Well, actually we never knew that you had received the rep and not thanked Hal. Had we known, we surely would have been calling for you to be banned by now!

KIDDING!! :D

I agree with what the others have said. While it is nice to say thanks for rep, it is not bad etiquette if you don't. That said, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me rep before. Thanks! :) It's always nice when you noticed that someone enjoyed your post.

Smorgie,
I find it reprehensible that you would have that avatar. How do you think Sgt. Sadler would feel if he knew it was juxtaposed with that fine rendition of his song? What about all the other Green Berets that spilled their blood on the beaches at Omaha so that your sorry butt could offend your fellow Americans by glorifying smoking crack? Shape up, man!

Very boring day at work today...

sjm,
I agree (if only through unbridled self-interest). I have never sent thanks for a rep, nor do I expect any response to rep I have given.

I hope I haven't offended anyone, because I do appreciate all the feed back I have received.

I like to keep as much of my interaction as I can on the forum public; in hopes of encouraging more interaction and the develpment of a forum "camaraderie." From what I have seen at DCC and BCA; such camaraderie is definitely growing.

I have always wondered if there was a "proper" way to acknowledge rep. However, I think the best way to understand rep, is to give rep. Notice how other people respond or don't, that will probably be the norm. Some people will, most will not; however, that doesn't mean they don't appreciate it. Responding is generally not the norm from what I have found, although that is not always the case.

I think once someone has been here long enough they start to understand the whole rep thing.

i like rep :P

but nobody give me :(

Rep points are earned. I am not expecting acknowledgement or thanks when I give it out, rather I am thanking you for the post. I usually write a comment so that the poster knows why they are getting rep.

Rep is kinda like a virtual pat on the back or slap in the face (neg rep)

This whole thread reminds me of an old joke.

Why don't WASPs have orgies?

Too many thank-you notes to write afterwards.

I give out all my rep everyday, what am I saving it for.
I like to hit up the new members to get them started and if I see a post I like, I rep em.

After all my rep is given out I log out for a while, then log back in later to post or just lurk. So around the same time the next day I am all charged up and can go rep again.

:D

rep points

I am looking to give someone a rep point and can't figure out how. Likewise though, I have not thanked anyone for the rep points I have received.

When you see a post you like. Look at the bottom left of your screen, there is a REP button. Select it. You'll see.

you sure??????

Only button on the bottom left is reply on my screen

Look in the posters window at the very bottom of their post. Two buttons one for green rep (good) or neg rep (red) bad. Use the red sparingly but give all the green you like.

I love collecting rep. Seems trivial at times but I am a relative newcomer, although I lurked for a while, and I am proud of all the rep I have received. I do not send thank you's all the time, but I constantly watch for those who have given me rep and return the favour at the next opportune time. And like the Captain I like to start rookies off as best I can. I don't know how much my rep is worth, but its yours if I like your post. Every little bit helps.

I think if you have over

1,000 rep points, you should get a sticky thread.
3,000 rep points, you should get your own room.
10,000 rep points, you should get your own forum like www.smorgasboredsworld.com/forums

If I give you rep points, not only should you thank me publically in my personal sticky/room/forum but you should send me a check with at least $5 to Amsterdam Billiards in New York City.
