It's pretty easy to sift the dreg's thru on most cases, but not always. That's life and is expected, it's rough times, and I choose (so far anyway!) to fade the trolling and bickering.
I've learned more from coming to Az about pool than anywhere.
My prop's to AZ and the contributing community. I sincerely am grateful. As a novice in comparison to so many here, I hope at least a nugget or 2 of what I offer is appreciated.

I'm not that complex, wasnt implying anything was stating the fact that "as far as I know". I dont see (But I dont read every thread, Is that plain enough for ya) thread after therad about anybody, but Jay going here and there dong this and that. If my comment of "flappping their fingers" was so off base I doubt I would have been replying to The comment "this thread has gone know where in a hurry". If you feel that all that crap between Jam and that other guy(s) was "contributing to the online discussion" good for you I think its just what I said crap.sjm said:I do not want recognition, now or in the future, but your post implied that you felt the people in this thread, other than Jay, are not those stepping up to the plate and doing something for our sport. The tone of your post suggested that these posters were, consequently, just clueless outsiders blowing off steam, who had little to contibute to the online discussion. It was an inappropriate implication.

Theres 10000 people on this forum one would think that if you took one problem at a time an answer could be found. So here I'll list a few simple problems with pool and see if simple answers can be found..
1..Pocket Billiards is so damn hard to play at a level its worth watching.
2..There are very very few people that can play it good enough to have a pro tour...Sombody just posted they felt there were 300 pro level players in the USA, I dont know if I'm buying that. To me thats saying there are 300 players as good as SVB.
3..Sponors, Sponsors, Sponsors, They want exposure, There isnt and I doubt ever will be a 10000 seat arena for billiards. The internet you say, well ask the guys at TAR how their viewings have been doing they mght be on to somthing.
4..Did I mention how hard the game is to play,
5..How do you convince all those people that they should let their kids hang out at the pool hall, so the Junior programs (that every major game has) can get going because without them you might as well give up that big tour your worried about isnt going anywhere with out new blood.
If someone got it figured out and made it happen, what would you do to support it?
I'll give you an example......I came up with an idea in May of 2008 that has a real chance to do something for pool, raised over 125k from investors (that are not involved with pool) to get the company off the ground and yet the first thing everyone does, who takes a look, is say thats realy cool and then they try to shoot it full of holes instead of jumping on board..........its like they want to see if your going to fail, why do you think that is?

Everyone has been as nice or nicer than I expected. I met Ray(Bigtruck) yesterday. He was just passing through town on the fly so we didn't play but as expected he did absolutely nothing to harm my perfect record. Nice guy!

1.Some wars can never be won
2.Some people take offense to almost anything
3.Sometimes I should keep my mouth(fingers) shut
4.If you were giving away $ to every player on AZ somebody would still be unhappy
5.See # 3
6.There are alot of good posts that help alot of people
7.The war on Aiming Systems will continue till the end of time
8.Don't get involved in a Raffle discussion
9.Don't log on if you have something else to do-leaving for the Gym
10.TAR and Ustream ROCK!!!!
One more, the discussion over what constitutes a legal shot when the cue ball and object ball are frozen or very close together will also never be resolved. I did like the way they handled it at DCC this year though. Greg is a pretty smart cat.

How did he handle it?
Jon(Sorry if this has already been explained.)
Rockin' Robin said:Having put over 25 years into the promotion and directing of events, one thing i realized, pool players, myself included, are like a cancer. Continuously eating away at their favorite activity. If the tables were solid gold with sterling silver rails and 100% silk cloth, with thousands in added money, they could still find something to complain about.
We brought organization, standardized rules, deeper paybacks, low entry fees, and a code of conduct to hundreds of sites across the country.
We started small with 500 added events and over the span of a dozen years the added was up to 3500. On the way to more events and more added money.
Due to some bad decisions by our sponsors, caused in fact by pool players, we lost our title sponsor and survived a few more years scraping by with smaller companies.
And like Jay, we approached the BCA, with no luck, AND not only did they provide no help, they started their own tour in direct competition with their own members. This is the nature of the beast. Been seeing and fighting it for decades.
I know all you youngsters have no clue who we were, but take my word for it, we ran more pool tournaments and gave away more money to more players than anyone in the history of the sport, not counting the league extravaganzas.
Maybe if AZ was around while we were pounding the highway, we might still be in action. Who knows. I did my part.
ShootingArts said:First off, the naysayers and people with negative attitudes will always be there. Bring them to the gates of heaven and they'll give you a look, "you expect me to walk through that gate?!?" However there is another issue even with people that are positive about most things. After they have gotten their hopes up so many times only to have them dashed they get very tired of jumping on every new bandwagon that comes along. I have lost count of the new competitor's organizations and tours I have joined, however they number in the dozens. Of all of those I'm not sure if any still exist. Maybe a half-dozen could have been considered successful, probably only half that many.
This isn't to discourage you, perhaps to aid your understanding of why people are slow to get behind new ideas. With understanding perhaps then you can reach people to persuade them it is worth the effort to try one more time.

I agree that this is a problem.

I agree that there aren't 300 that qualify as world class in my books, more like 50 or 75.
3..Sponors, Sponsors, Sponsors, They want exposure, There isnt and I doubt ever will be a 10000 seat arena for billiards. The internet you say, well ask the guys at TAR how their viewings have been doing they mght be on to something.
This is a problem for sure. There are 20,000 good seats available at many a major tennis match, but pool, played on such a small table, can accommodate far fewer viewers. Hence, TV will be the key, and TV pool ratings will never takeoff unless far more play the game.
4..Did I mention how hard the game is to play,
Yes, I believe you did.
5..How do you convince all those people that they should let their kids hang out at the pool hall, so the Junior programs (that every major game has) can get going because without them you might as well give up that big tour your worried about isnt going anywhere with out new blood.
I agree 100% and have often posted about how the poolrooms of America, with just a few exceptions, are conceived in a way that scares away the demographics needed most for pool to have a bright future ---- specifically, the kids and the affluent. Like you, I feel that the climate is at odds with attracting the right people to our sport.
The real truth of the matter, Even though I dont think it will ever be a monster payday like golf, I think in another 5 to 10 years pool will be doing fine. Why ?, Because there is nothing left to dump money into all the other games are up and running. Pool had no chance against football, baseball, ect. (dont forget the invention of a little thing called the TV) but its hung around and its time will come, it is after all a great game, its just been pushed aside for games that are easier..
I do hope you're right, but I'm not as sure of this. There is no reason to think that there won't be many new forms of entertainment in the immediate future, so pool will have to earn its participants.
