If they asked that same question at AZB, the answer might well have been "escluxive".... imo

To answer your question, no, Alex Pagulayan would not be eligible to compete in the hypothetical American nationality-restricted TOURNAMENT. Please notice the word "tournament" in my post is in the singular and not in the plural as in your post, Yobagua.

Jose, Mika, Allison, Karen Corr would also not be eligible to compete in the hypothetical American nationality-restricted TOURNAMENT.

Tony Robles and Rodney Morris, I had thought, are Americans. Though they may be Hispanic or have a Guam background, they are Americans, and as such, they would be eligible to compete in the hypothetical American nationality-restricted TOURNAMENT -- in the singular -- that I hypothetically suggested.

MANY countries around the world have NATIONALITY-restricted TOURNAMENTS -- in the plural.

I see nothing wrong with the United States having an AMERICAN nationality-restricted TOURNAMENT -- in the singular.

Hope this clarifies the HYPOTHETICAL tournament -- in the singular -- that I was mentioning when it comes to American nationality-restricted.

Oh, and, yes, Yogabua, if you are an American, born here in the U.S. of A., and do not have a citizenship in another country, then, yes, you, too, would be eligible to compete in the HYPOTHETICAL American nationality-restricted TOURNAMENT -- in the singular.

As much rage as you may feel as my suggestion of having a NATIONALITY-restricted tournament, it is the same rage I feel when I see other countries having NATIONALITY-restricted tournament(s), with the United States not having any.

JAM[/QUOTE

Gee JAM I dont have any RAGE. I was just asking for clarification. You dont have to be so paranoid. I remember a time when there was a "No Irish Need Apply". When Italians and Irish people were considered foreigners even if they were born here. I happen to be Asian and even though I am American my question of Nationality always comes into question. As in where are you from? Or where were you born? I am an American as you and dont feel the same rage when other countries have a Nationality restricted policy just as I dont have a rage when some tournaments restrict by gender. I know that everyone in Europe and Asia still want to see Earl or an Archer or Cory. And we, IMHO, is the greatest country on earth. Well Ive not been to the planet that Efren is from. But excluding that we have great tournaments and I really dont see the need for an exclusionary tournament unless they are going to represent theUSA as in the Mosconi cup. Or the Olympics. Hey maybe we could have a Mosconi Cup qualifyer and keep it to only American players.
Why is it though that people who dont agree with you are accused with having mental abberations like "rage". Or you get pissed off at and start to pull credentials like people who are not old time AZers. I for one have been watching this site since their inception. And I have been watching and playing pool as long as some pros were in their bare youth and called nicknames like "hippie" and such and now cant compete on the present international tour. I dont have rage or any disorder like that and people who do should consider help or medication.

just for the record I think it's both americans and non-americans who got in jam's face for saying stuff like this :) That's the magic of equal opportunity!

If jam's theoretical american championship ever happened, then I guess I could live with it. I don't see the point though, if she feels like we need something to save the dying breed of american pool players. With this hypothetical tournament, one more starving sparrow could be saved to the tune of 20-30,000 bucks. Maybe two. But the other 999,999 starving sparrows would still have to play better than foreign players to get their breadcrumbs. At the end of the day we're going to have compete with them anyway.

Re: grady's event... I agree with blackjack that it seems like just an angry reaction and posturing. But if he does a good thing for the wrong reasons, and it could help the pool scene... then I wish him good luck with it.

I doubt Grady has the time and monies to waste putting on a tournament and or pool tour, just as an "angry reaction or posturing". Whatever level of tournament that results, I'm sure it will be well run and the players will be treated well, as Grady always has done both.

Well, I think it's very possible for both things to be true - grady wants to put on a tour/tournaments just because he's pissed about the lack of invitation and he'll do it well, with good money and fairly treated players. I guess you could say he's motivated.

Grady!

Grady,

I see you are going to have Seniors events. I would love to play in those as my fondest memories of pool are playing on the Senior Tour that Miz had. But I have a question for you: Most senior events are for those 50 and up and now that I am 60 I see 50-year-olds as mere children.

So perhaps, in order that I might have a chance, you could have a 60+ event. No, wait, Vanover is in that group so I still don't have chance. OK, how about a group for 60+ players who are billiard journalists?

Uh, wait a sec. How old is Fels? I could be in real trouble here. How about an event for 60+ players who used to be billiard journalists who now live on farms in Georgia? Yeah, I think that may work.

Best of luck to you Grady. I live close enough to get to your events and I look forward to seeing them begin.

I like the 50-year-olds and up barometer! ;)

Speaking of which, today is Efren Reyes' birthday, according to the Main Page on AzBilliards. Born the same year as me, he's a whopping 53 years of age, and eligible for the seniors event! :D

Happy Birthday to Efren! :)

I will just work on my own tournaments at our new room, with no invitationals.
As soon as I can get the place into black ink I am going to begin a new org. for One Pocket and Bank Pool.

Grady, if Miss South Carolina happens to come into your new room, please club her like a baby seal and put her out of her misery:
