A Pool Game That Isn't Getting Much Respect From The Pros. . .

My guess would be because it's too easy.
I am not a really high level player (apa 6 in 8 ball) and if I get a decent break I can almost alway put at least one opponent out, if not finish the game on my first shot at the table.

Even if it did get past the breakers shot at the table, the third guy would almost certainly not get a shot.

Why is it that I never see these guys matching up playing some cutthroat???? A cutthroat tourny would rule on espn.

The game doesn't get much respect from anybody.

Its a game for 3 bangers. Like said above, the third person would hardly ever get a shot if Pros were playing it. I would watch it though if they would play it.

make it so they have to run there group in order and instead of ball in hand use the old push out rule where you only get ball in hand if they don't hit there lowest numbered ball on the second shot. that might at least give it a chance of being interesting.

IMO, it would be too easy for 2 of the players to gang up on the 3rd, especially if the prize is right, pun intended. :(

What if the game were played with two female pros vs a male? Karen Coor and Allison Fisher vs Ronnie Allen!!?? The possibilities are endless!

This was my first thought as well. also with only 5(well 4 after choosing a suit) balls of your own, the available shot choices are so numerous that you just can't help but run out on all but the hardest layouts.

Yeah...... but even if it is just for bangers.... everybodys do'in it...... if everybodys do'in it...... then uh.... only one guy can be the best.......

Rest assured that if you put up enough prize money, the World Cut Throat Championship would become an event in which every pro would wish to participate.

might work if they played on a 6x12 with pockets like at hardtimes. other than that, i dont see how the game could be competitive for the pros. might as well hold a world lag championship while you are at it.

World Lag Championship

Next on ESPN 5 the first annual World Lag Championship......Gentlemen Lets Get Ready To Roll Them..... 9pm EST right after the World Tiddly Winks Round Robin........lol

Pro Cutthroat would be akin to watching straight pool. You'd have to come up with an triple elimination system to give everyone a chance at the table, aside from the lag. You could have a lag contest at the beginning of the tournement too. Then we'd know if the lag winner is actually the tourney winner. I'd think not, especially after watching the KOH tourney. They're only running 8 balls, you'd have to do 10 in cutthroat to win, unless someone else pooches a shot. It might be fun to watch an ameteur tourney.

Simple, let any straight pool champ break first and no one else would get a shot for 4-5 racks easy, probably more. It would be boring for the average person to watch, this is coincidently why straight pool lost favor because it’s not flashy enough for TV.

How about, in the world cutthroat tourny, you cannot run more than 3 balls at a time, with saftey play allowed, yesssss I'm on to something

For some reason, I'm thinking they should have bank pool on much more so than cutthroat. :p

Maybe they should combine the two games and put bank-cutthroat on TV. j/k :D

I'm with you though, put banks on! (Instead of Sudden Death 7 ball perhaps. -- do they still put that on? I hope not.) You don't have to be from Kentucky to appreciate a good bank shot. The masses would enjoy it and without saying, the players would too.

For more two players, I think a ring game would be the choice for high level pool. That Skins format was interesting the one time I watched it.
