Allison Fisher- out in two

I believe she was. Vivian and Kelly are locked at 6-6. Go, Vivian.

Darn, Kelly wins after Vivian misses a straight-in 8 ball in the final game.

Open Semi Finals

Greetings and many salutations from across the old mill pond!

Looking forward with interest to the semi finals and hoping that the gracious Miss K Fisher will triumph and gain the No1 Rating for at least a short while.

It's quite an exciting year 2008 and, the redoubtable Miss A Fisher has, (this outing excepted), shown remarkable tenacity in holding onto her position, for those doubters of the Duchess - Tish! Never write off a member of the aristocracy.

So toodle pip, I will be visiting the brackets and updates throughout the evening through my monacle which is masquerading as a computer.

Congrats to Asia on her win over Line. I'm pretty sure this is Asia's first WPBA event!

Amen - I appologize for not leaving a congrats to Asia - not easy first time in a major tournament and knocking out a tour regular.

Kelly wins 7-5 to reach the final and get the #1 ranking.

This is pretty strange, to be honest. Allison Fisher has won five of the last seven WPBA titles (with Corr and Pan the winners of the other two), although it will be five of the last eight by the end of today. The WPBA is presently an eight event per calendar year tour, so this stretch represents a full year of competition.

How this could add up to anything but a #1 ranking for Allison is hard to fathom. By every reasonable measure, it would be fair to say that Allison has dominated on the tour of late.

What is wrong with this picture?

I'll tell you what. You've got to play pretty good to get to the final 24 of a WPBA tour stop. Just take a look at the brackets. I wonder if Aileen Dimmick is the former Aileen Pippin? And who is Pam Cimarelli? Never heard of her. Alice Rim is having a good run too.

Not really Jay.

I HATE A SEEDED TOURNEYMENT, IT IS TOTAL BULL$HIT IN MY OPINION.

Let them do a blind draw or that goofy thing they do at DCC. Seeded tourneyments are a joke.

I was in FL and spent some time talking to Ray Martin. He said when he won the World Championships it was set up so you played everyone in the tourneyment. If you won the tourneyment then, you really were the best.

Seeded tourneyments, and even double elimination has "luck of the draw".

IT SEEMS THAT ALLISON WASNT TOO LUCKY DRAWING SARAH.

They're only using the last four tournaments to do the rankings. Yes, it makes things exciting, but does it give the most accurate picture of who is the best? It was reported that Allison will fall to sixth. Yes, going two-and-out is the worst thing that can happen (ranking wise), but should one bad result cause that much damage at the top of the game?

Could this be a Cinderella story for Iris? Anyway, whatever happens, you did well on your first US Open Iris! May the best lady wins!

Well the new method sure shakes up the rankings for sure. I am pretty sure it was done to break the Allison and Karen dominance of the rankings. This is a sad thing if it was the reason. However it does add a layer of pressure to the mix for all the players.

Single elimination final sixteen combined with rankings through the last four tournaments definitely takes aways the cushy position that Allison and Karen enjoyed for a decade. Not that they didn't earn their spots, they certainly did through stellar play and utter dominance.

However the way that the rankings were set up - through the last 12 tournaments or so made it incredibly difficult for the players to break into the top spots or change the rankings.

Maybe this is too much but it sure does make things more exciting. I for one am glad to see Kelly Fisher attain the number one spot. Even though under this format it will be much harder for her to hold on to it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and a big congrats goes out to Kelly and Iris both. They played great and deserved their great finishes. Kelly is a great person to be at the top.

I would give details about the run-out hill/hill, but I really don't remember! I know I made two balls on the break and only one ball was touching a rail. It was a simple out that was made tough because of the circumstances. Me being me, I left myself a little long on every shot. The story said I was calm but believe me, I was nervous as can be! I have to also say Allison was not her usual self. She made more errors in that match than I have seen in a very long time, if ever. All I had to do was hold it together and capitalize. I know and everyone else knows, she will not play like that again.

I'm happy to have one such a tough match, but I really wish I would have done better. Tiffany was a fighter and fought her way back after being down the whole time to win the match. She played great.

Thanks again everyone. Everyone has been very supportive for many years and I really appreciate it.

Is it because they are no longer carrying points over? Also, I read somewhere that this event was worth double points, so it was not a good one to do poorly in but a good one to win!

PA,
After JL's major surgery in 2004, she has not regained her previous form (and has played about 70% of it since then). She has had another recent surgery, and though she never makes excuses, it has definitely affected her play. I have always admired athletes who perservere in the face of physical handicaps; and in my view JL's handicaps have been huge, and her performance more than admirable - an example of how sports can reveal the true character of a player.

In short race 9-ball, though, anyone can win; and Jeanette's top gear is as good as, if not better than, anyone on the tour. She has been practicing more than usual the past 6 or 7 months; so go Jeanette!

Good post. JL obviously has tons of heart.
