Am I a D - Bag

I just checked the rules. They say the referee will warn the player he is on two fouls. I don't see anything that says his opponent will.

What rules are you guys talking about?

LOL......as if declaring it frozen is what makes it frozen. LOL

The reason for these rules is because of people like the OP who have no integrity. If people could be trusted to call their own third foul and make good hits on non called frozen balls, these two rules wouldn't be around.

As far as the OP's question, rules are rules and you were "right," but you proved why we need those rules.

Congrats on being a dick, work on having some integrity and man up when you know you lost a game or made a bad hit.

That's part of the reason for the rules. The other part is that sometimes the ball is so close to the rail that unless you actually go over and inspect it, you cant always be sure. If the op fouled on purpose knowing his opponent didn't call it frozen, then yeah I agree it was shitty.

I've ALWAYS called a foul on myself when my opponent didn't see it. It's kinda funny you question my integrity over something that's in the rule book. And if you think I'm a dick, whatever, but perhaps you should follow the forum rule book... oh wait why do we need a rule book again?

if the guy was a regular tournament player and should have known better then you're less of a d-bag than if this was the guys first tournament and he may not have been aware that it was necessary for him to speak up.

Rulz is rulz. If the guy was just learning the official tournament protocol then I think you're a bigger d-bag for not cutting him some slack.

Either way losing under those circumstances will certainly make an impresssion should a similar situation arise in the future.

Just last night I was playing in a local "for fun" partners 8-bal league. Our opponent made a shot with the bridge and then proceeded to strike and move a ball with the bridge. As is customary in this league we just put the ball back where it was and let him continue. Later in the match my partner miscued on the break and nothing hit rail. We re-racked and the opponent was going to take the break shot away from us (again in this league we typically just give the original breaker another try). I told him to wait and I'll ask the league director what the "official" rule is. She said "yes the opponent can take the break but if he wants to be a 'nice' guy he can just let you break it over". When I told him that...he let us break again. Frickin' guy wanted it both ways for him and I wasn't going to let him unless I had to.

well....this thread escalated quickly

ok so this past sunday at a tournement, I fouled for a second time. No warning was given. i fouled a 3rd time. As the gentleman was about to reach for the rack I asked what he was doing, he said i 3 fouled. I said he never told me i was on 2 ( he didn't I swear ) and the fact that that was the 3rd foul is irrelevant. He starts pissing and moaning to the point i gotta call the tournement directer to calm the man down. At another point in the match i froze the object ball at the cueball to the rail ( the object ball was not declared frozen ) and he again tried to say I fouled. I said he did not declare the ball frozen he once again flipped out. Am I a douche or does this guy need to learn to speak up.

honestly a little of both, he should have managed his game rite and gave you the 2 finger peace sign(the Nixon thing) and made sure he made eye contact with you and said "Your on 2", thats on him. When I do that I MAKE 100% SURE WITHOUT A DOUBT who I have on 2 knows he is on 2, and I like that for 2 reasons 1) there is no beef when i 3 foul his ass out and 2) it puts more pressure on him, especially if its a hill game or i have him locked up real good. So he is green or wet behind the years for not doing that.

as far as you go, its always best to be a gentleman, even if your getting the worst of it at that moment. Just happened a few minutes ago on the 1P match with Shannon and Cory, they slept a ball or something, put Shannon in a bad spot, he said "Easy Boys" to the audience, kept his composure and won 3-1. Thats a pro for you.

thats the un watered down of how a seasoned player would handle both sides of it.

the only exception is if your on your last $$$ and it means sleeping in the car, because its your last barrel, and your never going to come back, then stir the shit pot much as possible cause, ya gotta what ya gotta do. however i doubt that was the circumstances.

thats POOL EDUCATE 101 right from the old timers handbook, page 63.

Pretty Amazing!

The rules regarding both situations are absolutely clear. What amazes me is how we can get 7 pages of discussion about whether or not a) we should really play by them and b) people who play by them are poor sports. Huh.

Now here's a twist to this exact situation I saw come up in a pro one pocket match in Mountain View. Deuel v. Bustamante. Corey Deuel fouls twice on consecutive shots and after the second foul Francisco clearly warns him 'You are on two!' Loud and clear for everyone watching including the Accu-Stats viewers. Corey nods his concurrence and sits down while Francisco shoots. Francisco plays a killer safety and Corey commits the 3rd foul. Francisco claims loss of game and Corey disputes it. The Tournament Director rules in Corey's favor! Anyone see it? (Francisco's warning was no good. The warning must be given as the opponent approaches the table for his 3rd shot - not after the 2nd shot or any other time.)
