Am i the only one tired of "hustlin'" wear and thugged out hats at prestegious events

No but when we go knocking on doors asking for support, or sponsorship. It would be nice when potential sponsors come look at us we do not look like refugees from the homeless shelter, or down and outer from skid row.

If the local Bar Owner where I play Tournaments told me they were instituting a simple dress code as I suggested. Because they were trying to attract local business, to support his tournaments, and in the end he would have more ADD MONEY, etc.

I would not find a new place to play, I would comply with said request in hopes that he was successful in getting more sponsorship for his tournaments.

I did not say it was indicitive to their level of play. Just being able to play well does not give you free reign to dress like a slob at tournaments. Keep your sarcastic garbage to yourself. The man pictured is an exception anyways, his clothes are clean and fit him well. Nothing wrong there.
 
I understand that pool does need to clean up their image some. However is it our clothing image or the other image that we need to clean up? I think clothing would be a step in the right direction. However, there are sports that have worse clothing images that have major sponsors. For example, you have the extreme sports arenas, bmx, snowboarding etc. They are the now sports with big companies behind them.
I think that we need to find a way to strike a happy medium. Like another poster said dress codes would be nice but not one that is so restrictive.Also I have played that 1 am match at DCC, I didn't want to dress like I was going to work.
We need a dress code that dresses us up but doesn't restrict us and that is easier said then done. The day of the coat and tie is over. I work for a Fortune 500 Insurance company and even the CEO doesn't wear a tie. Society as a whole as gotten a little looser with dressing in company settings.I think a business casual style dress code would for work for the majority of matches and maybe a little looser after a certain hour. For example those late night after 11 pm matches.
Just my opinion. :-)

He is also 1 of about 2 or 3 people that I have seen in my lifetime that tend to wear alot of Hustlin' gear, and you don't want a piece of any of the others either. I have spent years traveling and playing this game and the people who wear that stuff are A) supporting a company connected to the sport and B) are not the pretenders that you were trying to make the arguement they are.

I don't care who wears Tapout gear, maybe that is worn by a bunch of posers. But Hustlin' gear of which this thread was about is worn by a bunch of pool players that would take your comparison and bend you over the pool table with it and if you were lucky leave you with cab fare home.
 
I guess the problem is that the sport is still trying to get away from the idea that all pool players skipped high school, alchohlic, gambers. Now we have a new threat that can be sen as a negative to families wanting to get their kids involved. The sport can't afford to chase anyone away that may be interested in becoming involved.
I know that the X games have their style, they can do whatever they want as they are already in prime position as is WWF or UFC. The yhave their markets now in place for one reason or another. We are the kids who are trying to get into the limelight.
You know what??? as much as I hate to say this now I am thinking about it. Maybe this is the way to get new youg people involved. Maybe we need to associate with them more and not become stuck in our 3ways and old fashioned. Maybe that is what they are not finding interesting about the sport.... Oh Crap guys, I am one of the old fashioned ones that want to see everyone dress like Shane, Rodney, Johnny Crosby etc. But all you that DO NOT LIKE THIS way of dressing etc. Please just take your personal opinion out of it for a second and think... This could be part of the reason we don't have the same youth enthusiasm. Wow.

I might have been unclear, and its my fault for getting so passionate about these sort of things. I dont mean Hustlin wear in and of itself is a bad brand, its the thug wannabes who wear it down to their ass that is dragging pool down. I have no problem with hustlin wear in and of itself and in fact hope it continues to be suppourted as a good company, its just the consumers as a whole are ruining it.

I apologize for the comments i sent you in the rep, they were uncalled for. I just get intense about this subject.

I see nothing wrong with the Hustlin T-shirts and jeans for ameature events (or weekly type tournaments)

I personally dislike seeing jeans on players in a tournament that is billed as a pro or semi-pro type event....but until it is a rule that will be followed by all players I will wear jeans just like the rest....Funny thing is I actually feel out of place if I wear slacks because usually you are one of the only ones....

I think the jeans make an event appear more ameature than professional.

The "Hustlin" wear is not really the issue...it is how it is presented within the clothes... with T-shirt and jeans it does not matter what the T-shirt says on it....It always spells out "ameature" appearance.

A "Hustlin" logo on a nice shirt and slacks could be presented as professional...

EXACTLY. i have nothing against hustlin wear. Ive seen efren in hustlin polos and they look nice. Im talking about the kids who wear it down to their ass.

I think it's the clothes, the demeanor, the attitude, the shtick, the look, the con, the thuggery, the blade, the rod, the hog leg, you name it... oh, I forgot the ubiquitous tatoos and the stench of many of them, as well as their language, if it can be called that at all.

Until pool finds out where it belongs, it will continue to float somewhere between horseshoes and golf and never be either. Pool needs to find, or create, it's own identity because it's current one hasn't served it very well.

Borrowing, or copying never works...at least not for long.
