Am i the only one tired of "hustlin'" wear and thugged out hats at prestegious events

Interesting....I am working in the golf shop today (dead due to the hot weather).......so I am walking over to the snack shop to get a re-fill and notice on TV that there are bolwers in shorts bowling on a make shift "outdoor" venue.

I thought it was some celebrity ameature event or something...then I realized it was actually a "pro" event...

Clothes do create a "preception" of the type of event you are watching.

Does anybody reading this thread not know who this player is?

Yes.....a black man shooting pool...

What I want to know is....Is he right or left eye dominant???

I'm going to agree 1 billion percent with the original poster. If you're in a tournament dress like it for God's sake. Someone mentioned that they want to be comfortable. Spare me the bullshit. A t-shirt is no more comfortable than a polo shirt. No one is asking anyone to put on a tuxedo and bow tie and hard black shoes.

In my opinion, the various tours need to man up, get together to make one tour and supply their players with uniforms. All other sports have uniforms so why can't we? Sure, start crying about golf and how they can choose their own clothes. Yes, they can, but you don't see any of these baggy pants wearing bums on a golf course. The PGA wouldn't allow it and the various bodies of pro pool shouldn't either. To you guys here that do dress like that when you join a tournament, you are the ONE OF the reasons that pool is being held back. What sponsor in their right mind would want to support a bunch of bummy looking........bums? Hey, I'm no prude. In my free time I dress just like that. My main choice of clothes is jeans, Harley Davidson or heavy metal band t-shirts, and biker boots or tennis shoes. I hardly ever shave during the week either. If I join a tournament though I dress the part. I shave and wear black jeans in good condition, meaning no holes, no bleach spots, no fraying edges, and not hanging off of my ass, and a polo style shirt, usually black, and all white Adidas tennis shoes. I'm comfortable and I look nice. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

I understand how it is when you're young. When I was in my 20's I had hair half way down my back......I play guitar, and I was very stubborn about getting it cut or tying it back. "Hey, I'm my own person. Love me or leave me alone. You don't know me." But looking back at that I can see how stupid it was. I'm 40 now and keep my hair cut short but that young guy in torn jeans is still here. Just not when I join a tournament.

Bet he cannot play a lick, I mean Hustin' gear is everywhere! You ever see him out and about you should gamble him and take all his money Febreze. Once you are done humiliating him with your mad pool skillz come back and humor us with the tales of your victory.

lmao!
Wouldn't he have to go to Chicago to play with him though....?
At least on a normal day?

I think Hustlin wear is ok,but I wouldnt shell out the money for the shirts which are just plain, they need to get more designs or something. As for the guys who wear them,I see some wannabe thugs who wear it and arent players and also some players who are given the gear to wear to legitimize it among the pool community. :)

Rules of behavior too. You would be shocked to approach a McDonalds counter in the Philippines and be greeted by three employees all singing in unison, "Welcome to McDonalds sir, may we help you?" , all with huge, genuine smiles on their faces  . When did things start to go downhill here ? We have to start somewhere...Tom

I couldn't agree with you more. America isn't slipping, it's totally down the frickin' toilet. Every time I go home I'm disgusted with the way people act. The staff at restaurants act as if you should be grateful for their presence. Cashiers talking on cell phones while at the counter, just flat out laziness all around. You know, it's a bit corny, but here in Japan, at every department store, they have a greeting staff for the mornings. About 2 dozen people line up on either side of the doors, inside, for about the first 10-20 minutes of the morning. The staff is dressed very nice in their uniforms and when you walk in they bow and say "Welcome." It catches you off guard at first but then you're like "You know, that was really nice."

I'll never move back to America.

Look at him and then really look at him. He's clean, his hat isn't on sideways, his jeans appear to be in good condition, they're not hanging off of his ass showing his underwear, his shirt is tucked in, it's not wrinkled. There's a huge difference between what you wear and how you wear it.

I'm giving you rep for this one. Last time I was home.......summer 2005, I went through the drive thru at White Castle's............hey, you live away from home for as long as I have and White Castle's is a gourmet meal, hehehe, anyway, when I went through the drive thru the girl had that exact look you described above and that is EXACTLY what I said to her.....after she gave me my food, I didn't want any loogies on my burgers. I told her straight up, if you're this miserable here you need to find a new job.

Someone mentioned that the 80's craze of wearing tuxedos is over and it didn't really help the image. Let us not forget that besides Mike Sigel the majority of the other players were wearing the tuxes they bought in the late 60's and they looked like they didn't have a penny to their name and grabbed something from the Salvation Army.

the hired help

My brother and I were eating in a restaurant. The service wasn't much and the waitress also took the time to hang at our table and complain bitterly concerning everything about the restaurant and job.

I'm not the bashful sort and feel no obligation to tip. I tip anywhere from a quarter so that someone knows that I didn't forget to tip to sometimes more than the meal cost. In this case I laid down a generous tip. My brother looked at me a bit curiously and then the light bulb lit. "Figure she will need it?"

"Yup!"

This whole clothing conversation got me to thinking about the other night when Rodney Morris was here. I had to work that day and Tuesday's are my busiest days. I went home to change before going to the pool hall and I decided to go with sweats and a football jersey because I was tired and wanted to relax. As soon as he walked into the pool hall with his black pants and black shirt with a little NIKE logo on the arm I wanted to crawl under a table and die because of my choice of attire that day. I should have put on some jeans and a nice shirt at least, instead of looking like I was going to do a night of sitting on the sofa watching TV. I really was embarrassed. He's a professional player and I should have dressed in a way that showed that I respect him and his presence in our room.

I am getting so sick and tired of going to open events and Derby City and seeing every other shortstop decked out in hustlin wear, sweatpants and dirty nikes. Not to mention the thug hats or hustlin hats with the gold sticker on the bill. This kind of stuff is just making pool look stupid. I dont care how much flak i get for this, the dress codes at these events need to be more strictly enforced. I am not saying 3 piece suit, but put on some dress pants and something with a collar. I cannot stand seeing people playing in socks, athletic shorts and an XL "hustlin'" t shirt, it really makes me doubt the future of the game. The attitudes of these particular people usually reflects what they are wearing as well. I am in no way a prude, but some of the vile stuff i have heard come out of peoples mouths at crowded tournament venues is shameful.

I know a lot dont agree with this, and maybe im wrong, but i think we all owe it to pool to clean up. I realize most players arent like this, but that group that reflect this are killing pool.

Bravo. I am sick of the thug thing too. Everyone today thinks they're such bad-asses. I say dress decent and prove it with your game. Respect the sport, respect your opponent. Ughhhh Don't get me started......

I agree... He hit the nail on the head. And most everyone knows who this gentleman is and he is a fantastic player and a perfect gentleman at the table from what I have ever seen.

Thing is with the tours / tournaments....... It's like any other business. You have to both look the part and act the part. The absence of either is a negative.

One thing I noticed with some regional tours was that they went from having a dress code which was not too strict but everyone looked as good as could be expected. Then they got new sponsership from T-shirt people and the code was changed to you have to follow the dress code unless you where one of the sponser's shirts. Hey, I know sponsers aren't easy to come by and you have to give them their respect. However, when they did that it kinda opened the flood gates so to speak and the "look" of this particular tour in mind has changed.

if you're talking sponsorship, you're talking sport but if the sponsor isn't sponsoring you - so what -wear what you want.
Otherwise, younger generation is expressing itself through clothing and now by playing pool. Sounds like the old brigade should leave it alone. The future doesn't belong to you anyhow.
Nothing wrong with colorful. Sounds like a segregration of class to me.
