An Appeal for a sponsor or two.

My good friend Ming Ng won the Women's Tiger Tour in the Mid Atlantic region this year and is now eligible to play the entire WPBT season. I believe there are eight or nine events scheduled.

She tells me she can't afford to take time off from her job to play in these events, unless she has a sponsor. It will cost her a minimum of $1,250 to compete in each pro tourney. Is there anyone out there who has a billiard company that would like to have Ming represent them? She is a great rep, who never fails to attract attention with her glowing personality, cool outfits and determined play.

Ming speaks well, looks good and makes a great appearance wherever she goes. She is definitely a crowd pleaser, and can play and compete with the best of them. I'd love to see her have the opportunity to play the pro tour again. I'm in for the $250 if someone else can help out with the rest. She would be forever grateful as well, and quite willing to make personal appearances on behalf of her sponsor.

Ming is DEFINITELY sponsorable (is that a word?)! Lots of fun to watch!

Put me in for $100.00. Sorry it can't be more at this time. Where shall I send the check?

I am in for 6 JB Cases - 1 every two months to be sold with the whole proceeds to go towards her sponsorship as well as a personal case for herself.

The first case can be made in Feb./March.

I'm in for $100. I like Ming Ng, she's a classy lady that can bring it on a pool table. Johnnyt

Very nice donation. Johnnyt

Let me talk to Ming and tell her about this. We need to raise $1,000 per event. For every thousand raised, we can send her to one tournament. I was kind of hoping that a manufacturer might see this and decide to sponsor her. I know that's probably wishful thinking considering the state of the economy. Well, maybe we (Az'ers) can help get her to one or two events.

Don't send any money yet until after I talk with her.

Good idea here!

ANd if it wasn't obvious that she can play already...she can!

Doesn't shoot the balls and hope- she makes them go where she wants.

Congrats, Ming!

I am in for the donation or auction!

Man, you guys are great. I will call Ming later today and let her know what's going on. I may even get her to post on here.

Players need to think outside the box a little. People in the billiard industry just don't seem to sponsor players and for the most part don't have any money. You need someone outside the industry. It has always stuck me you never see any pool players doing any kind of commercials. It has nothing to do with name recognition, (No one outside of pool knew who Miz was at the time)most of the people in commercials you don't know, they are just actors. Pool players bring a different aspect to advertising with what happens on a pool table regarding the product. The pool table gets the potential buyers attention and watching while the product is pitched. Ming would defiantly get peoples attention, mine anyway.

An idea:
If someone set up a blog for her she could do tournament reports, making sure she gets quite a few 'quality' photos from each event.

An intro thanking her sponsors can sit at the top of the blog. Getting the AZ forum involved would also be a bonus for any potential sponsors.

She could offer $500 sponsorships (to about 6-8 businesses) for the season. The rest would hopefully be made up from AZ donations and prize money.
This amount may not be too much for small businesses to afford and could realistically turn a profit for a cuebuilder or other billiard product seller. Even a biz in her local community might generate some local goodwill.

[edit] Dammit ;)
I'll set up, run and pay for the blog for the year provided a few conditions are met.
1. The project gets the go ahead, in terms that it looks like she'll be able to commit to most of the events for the season.
2. She's willing to write progress and event reports and provide some nice photos semi-regularly.
3. Jay takes me on a personal tour of the Manilla pool hotspots someday (when we both happen to be there at the same time).

I can say yes to number 3! :)

I just talked to Ming and got her to read this thread. She never goes on here. She was completely blown away by this. She can't believe total strangers would offer to help her. She said she doesn't want to feel like she is begging for money. I told her that she was not an unknown player with a dream. She has seven full years of experience on the pro tour and reached #16 in the rankings. And she won a very tough regional tour this year. So she is definitely qualified.

Right now Ming is in the process of getting registered to come on here and post. I don't know how long that will take. She is excited right now that she may be able to play next year. At least part time. She didn't think that would be possible last time I talked to her. We can make her dream come true, and I know she will be VERY grateful to anyone who helps out. Ming is like that, a very loyal friend. A better friend you could not find. And she's a great gal too! If she plays in any events next year, just go up and introduce yourself from Az Billiards. I'll bet you get a big reception, maybe even a hug. :D

John your a class act not sure how you make any money with all the cases and deals on cases you seem to cut or give away ... But you are a pure class...

We have blog software set up here on AzB. We just havn't announced it yet. Jay, if Ming wants to do something like this then please let me know and I will get her set up.

Mike
