An open conversation on what pool in North America needs and can support.

Quality gosh darn streams. Pay or free. I just want a stream that I can sit back and enjoy. Not a stream I constantly have to refresh. Not a stream where I have to navigate to figure out how to order, chat and view. Keep it simple. Keep it streaming. Don't care who is to blame. Don't care for excuses. If you provide a product, take pride in what you offer. If you can not provide 95% + quality service. Get out of the business. These streamers turn people away that would otherwise support pool. Thanks for the money attitude. Seriously frustrated with stream after stream turning from what should have been a pleasant experience into frustration. Sorry for the venting but it;s getting real tiresome

I get a laugh out of it every time someone mentions, the "Future of pool rest on being able to get the youth involved"! I wonder how many parents out there are really telling their kids....."son/daughter.....you just have to learn how to play pool....the future of this game we love so much....rests upon YOUR sholders!!!! Or, if they're more like I was with my kids...."if you kids think you're going to play pool for a living when you grow up, you have no idea what in the hell you're in for. Let me tell you something, all of you kids....you'll make more money and a better living if you just apply for a job working at McDonalds than you will trying to be a pool player....so if any of you want to play pool for a living.....you can get the hell out of my house tomorrow and take your chances trying to supports yourselves doing anything you can.....because that's how much of a chance you'll have trying to make it through life as a pool player!!! Now if they came at me with dreams of playing golf, tennis, football, basketball....hell, even boxing....I might be open to their idea.....at least enough to listen. So, to even have a cold chance in hell of attracting the youth of the future to keep this sport going....then SOMEONE needs to figure out HOW to pay the Professional pool players TODAY.....not TOMORROW....because there won't be a tomorrow if Pros can't make a living playing this game today....or tomorrow!

It's not an all or nothing for pool. You can play as a kid and continue to be competitive as an adult in leagues and tournaments without trying to be a "pro". I don't have kids but I would let them play now as opposed to 20 years ago. The game is morphing into a sport. For the game to grow into a sport, then the industry better hope that kids get involved so that they become life long participates which will help everyone involved including any future professional events.

Pool needs legalized betting on it to sustain itself. Speak with Harry Platis, we have a plan in place, which is very close to being ready to go. It would then be self sustainable.

I know Harry well, ask him....but even Harry is missing a few key points in his plans.

This is exactly how I was going to respond to him. Think of how many kids play soccer - but how many parents expect their kids to become soccer pros? Or little league, or softball, and on and on. We're talking about getting young people interested just so the game survives at the amateur and league and casual player level, not that they're all focused on becoming pro players.

First pool needs a governing body to prevent dumping by either fining or banning guilty players.

Otherwise you risk having a bunch of Stephen Lees running around.

All the sports you can list that kids play....also exist at a Professional level as well. If there was no Professional level of competition....that also comes with pay, then no kids playing sports would be pursuing dreams playing at Pro level some day....and without professional sports to watch on TV....what in the world would all the failed dreamers have to look forward to watching?

The way to prevent that from happening....is to pay the Pros that make the cut into the top 64 in the world.....even if they lose in the FIRST round of playoffs!

American pro soccer barely exists and yet it's one of the most popular kids' sports. No parent has ever said to their 12-year-old "don't play soccer after school kid because you can't make a living from being a pro soccer player." And yet that was exactly the reason you gave for criticizing a focus on youth pool.

I suggest you look up Stephen Lee, or to possibly make it easier on you. Pete Rose

I said it as a matter of speech, if you want the truth about why parents try to get their kids involved with sports it to try and keep them from falling into the many traps of life....sports is an alternative to video games, TV, drugs, alcohol, gangs and otherwise would have a negative effect on their kids growing up....that's the truth, anyone that don't believe that is full of shit!

What the f%#k is your problem....do you actually believe your examples represent the rest of the players in the world? Banks rip off customers all the time....by the 1,000s....and you want to condemn a whole sport....which by the way was I SNOOKER mind you.....HEY, maybe you're right....SNOOKER IS PLAYED BY NOTHING BUT THEIFS!

Throw out all the laws there are....then there'll never be a crime committed! Ya got Catholic priest molesting kids too, your examples of corruption in sports carries about that much weight with me.....it's called if caught, pay the time! But under no conditions do you punish the rest of the sport for so few criminals! Guess what....parents still take their kids to church too, regardless of what has happened to others!

Pay attention

Without a governing body in pool to set forth and enforce "laws", how exactly do you expect players that dump to "pay the time"?

Barry Hearn is a successful businessman in cue sports...

IMO:
An open conversation should start with He / She (Whoever they are) revealing themselves and their intentions for the game. It's a shady start already to commence with such a vague introduction. Something that Pool does all the time.

So with that in mind;

1. Serious investors should always announce their plans through official channels. This will encourage the experts to come forward.

2. $500,000 investment can go along way in the right hands. Please do not start by announcing a $100,000 added invitational event, in Las Vegas for 16 players with no TV coverage. This business model has been done and is doomed for failure. A new investor in the game, does not owe anything to anyone. So no hand out favours...

3. IF HE or SHE is a serious investor. Then pick up the phone and speak to Mr. Hearn at Matchroom. Mr. Hearn is a proven successful business person in the world of Cue Sports. Using business models that work for the players, the spectators but more importantly, for the success of the game.

If 'the investor' does not consult / meet with Matchroom, then they simply are not serious...

I don't see what trying to meet with Barry Hearn would do for anyone.

Aspiring to do something for North American pool, you don't go to a potential competitor for advice.

You can look at the models he's used and see how you can translate those models into tenable models here, but attempting to meet with him with 500K is just a good way to figure out how to give him a majority of the 500k.

if you are both serious, why not approach Jason Ferguson in Bristol, England? He heads the World Proferssional Billiards and Snooker Association. Since they oversee the China Open, Shanghai Masters, UK Championships, World Open, etc. who better to get ideas from? Just the opinion of a long time player here in the U.S. who can't fathom why this country doesn't have something like that? We all love this game, it just needs top flight organization.

I'm sorry, did I miss something with him? Does he have the list of the TOP 64 10ball Professional players in the world? How about the top 64 9ball players? No....ok, we'll he surely has the list of the TOP 64 8ball players in the world.....right? He HAS promoted and ran "Pros Only" top 64 in the world right?

Bless Harry for trying but that plan has been very close to being ready to go for almost a decade. Harry is a smart man but I don't see how he could compete with established fantasy sports sites on the one hand and casino corporations on the other. Would be great to see him do it but playing in the online betting pool is pretty tough.

No way would something that only takes bets on pool last very long. So it means he needs to take action on more popular games. Which means he is now competing with Caesars, Boyd, MGM and the rest. Good luck with that.
