An Open Discussion about an improper Banning

"Button pushing" is waaaay too subjective. I get my buttons pushed all the time but either ignore them, Ignore them, or, on rare occasion :-) fire back.

What is button pushing to one is just gay repartee to another.

Most of us would deny we are master baiters.

The few Warnings that I have seen have stayed up as far as I know.

This was a suggestion by someone. Public Warning. In the future, it would stay put in that everyone can see it.

Master Baiters. Careful. I fish too.

So, you make the jump from me asking the rules as stated to be followed, to me thinking I would be a better moderator. By that reasoning, you feel you could do a better job as president, than the last president you had a disagreement with. Sorry, real life doesn't work that way.

If you noticed, there is a thread asking for moderators. You didn't see me volunteering in there at all. ;)

OK, you don't want to be a moderator, but you want to tell Mr. Wilson how to.

His response to Watchez was telling, people complain without knowing all of the facts.

Lets have a poll to see how many people don't post because of all the not so kind people on here. Post after post of nothing of value but attacks. Over and over and somehow they think that's their great contribution to the forum. Not everyone should be treated as an adult by age but how mature or childish they act. Oh let me follow CJ around and tell everyone how much he posts and I dont like his banner. Not sticking up for CJ, he does fine on his own. There are probably 10 people who if they got banned may add a 100 new posters or more.

a lot of things are kind of funny

First, kinda funny anyone is surprised that you put up a bunch of forums about pool you attract a bunch of people that act like pool players. This place is getting more like a virtual pool hall all the time!

Kinda funny that people jump to conclusions about who did what. When I was admin or mod I had people coming to me crying about how unjustly the lowlife other moderator had attacked him for no reason at all. More'n once I had to tell them that I was the lowlife they were crying about and they got exactly what was coming. A lot of people are very good at seeing what other people do, not so good about seeing what they do!

Kinda funny that people want to really hammer current mod's but don't want to touch the job with a ten foot pole when mod's are requested. I assume most of the conversations have went on in private but as a general rule the people that want to be mod's are the worst qualified. The rare exception is what Mike has to hope for.

Kinda funny but I support and agree with Dave's decisions about 95% of the time even when he is telling me and others in a thread we need to cool our jets.

Kinda funny that all of us that contribute little or nothing feel free to tell the people that put the time, money, and headaches in a business how to run it.

Kinda funny that without all of us pain in the ass members the site withers and dies.

Kinda funny world when I think about things.

The facts are kept hidden so it doesn't help to deter others.
It would be nice if it said who did the ban/warning and show/say why.
This way others could see what is not tolerated, instead of deleting it most
all the time.

There used to be a sticky listing some rules of posting. Most of the time, if you are doing something wrong, you get at least one and usually several warnings before you get banned.

If there's an issue with warnings on here they could be made public by your username. One warning and you are on one foul, a second warning puts you on two.

...people complain without knowing all of the facts.

If the warnings and notification of banning were public (AND kept publicly view-able) we wouldn't have that problem now would we? Nor would we have the problem of there being any gray area on what is or is not tolerated as it would be very plain to see. Nor would we have the problem of people thinking certain members are getting treated grossly different than other members, unless of course they actually are, in which case it would be even more glaringly obvious, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Chances are doing the warnings and bannings publicly would almost certainly result in more evenly enforced moderation, and at the very least it removes the suspicion of impropriety and favoritism even if there was none. Either way it is a great thing. Win win. And when you factor in all the other many benefits that result from having it be public there simply isn't a good reason not to.

Johnson, I'm on 2, and I got told exactly why, both times.

The second time, I didn't totally agree with it, but arguing after the fact would have been a Moot point.

So just what facts do you have that you feel justified in complaining about my post? I'm not Watchez, if you have a problem with what he said, then quote him, not me.

There still is. It's a sticky in the main forum.

I agree. Won't happen, however.
