An Open Discussion about an improper Banning

I think the level of disrespect seen here is directly due to the culture that developed because of shitty, or lack of, moderation.

And don't put your poor decision making on us, who told you being a mod was a good idea anyways? You want respect, maintain a respectful command.

This place is filled with pool players. It may have started out as a clean, well maintained cyber pool hall, but has deteriorated into a huge hole in the wall with crappy tables. This lies on the management, not the occupants.

Yeah but do they play like Gold Crowns or Diamonds?

When scientists finally identify the center of the universe and post it up for all to see ... there will be some very disappointed people on this forum!

We should require a dress code, a moral standard and start by throwing anonymous bums to the curb.
Remove the riff-raff that can't construct a proper sentence and promptly ban any hooligan who would dare utter any insult to another member.

Create this kind of upscale establishment.

For the millionth time, pool doesn't need a dress code.

I refuse to associate with anyone who would have me as a friend.

See, here's the thing.

Everyone was certain that I banned someone unfairly. They were ready to bet on it.
Unfair! Uneven! Preferential!

Mike stepped in and told people what was going on, why it was done, left your conversation standing..etc...
People think posts / threads are deleted. No, we take the thread to a private place and the participants can't play with it anymore.

If we leave it up, such as done with this one...look where it goes?

Mike is the owner of the site and so very few of you can muster the minimum of respect you could / should show him. Take a good look at this thread. This is the sort of thanks you guys give him.

Using this context, if you can't be bothered to respect the owner...why on earth would I expect you to listen to me?
I think I've banned about half the people in this thread...but here you are.

How many of you feel like you deserve MORE respect than you're willing to give to Mike?

You guys want everyone BUT yourself to be accountable for their actions.

I'll say this: I have volunteered tens of thousands of hours of my time to servicing this site over the past decade. I have endured all manner of abuse for the entire time. All for free.

You want to talk about fair...huh.

What have you done?

David, I think you do a thankless job well. Not perfect, but well, and I believe most of us appreciate that.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that without us, the characters, this place is an empty echo in canyon. See some of the other pool forums to help visualize this.

For many of us it's all about the forums, staying current on what's going on, parlaying with others, kvetching about the issue du jour, making friends (and the occasional enemy), and smoozing with other pool players. It's a cyber-cocktail party everyday. I doubt many even visit much of the rest of the site.

So as important as what you and the rest of "the team" do is, don't forget that the participants here are an integral part of all that and deserve to be treated with a modicum of respect from the management and not the distain I occasionally see reflected in what is said and done here.

Oh yeah, that's just what the internet needs. Another web site with no budget that no one is interested in visiting. Can't we just have professional pool players all create MySpace pages?

Olhausens

Did I ever tell you guys that the name, Olhausen, was derived from the word, Olten Hausen.

They were German makers of Out Houses.

Yes, Happy Birthday Dave. Hope you at least try and have a great day, and many more to come.

Pink PMed me and I forgot, which isn't unusual for myself these days.

Me, always reminds me of an old Poem. Jonathon Bing.

It goes, Jonathon Bing. Bingathon Jon. Forgets where he is going and thinks he has gone.

For many years there's been a few that have slandered Pros every chance they get.

Now that's a great idea!!! I'll put on a suit and tie (like we did on the PCA) to make posts if this would make a different in expatiating the process.

We spend much more time of Facebook (60k a month) than az because that's where the professionals really are, and most of us are treated with respect and common courtesy. I've communicated with over 50 people personally in the last 48 hours...and that's not unusual. I'm simply posting for all of them until the environment is conducive for them to come on here and interrelate with everyone in a professional, kind, and courteous manner.

For many years there's been a few that have slandered Pros every chance they get. Once they have driven this into someone's head it creates a negative "vibe" about the players. We, as a whole shouldn't want this, it's hurting everyone that really is trying to promote pool to the masses.

Did SJD get the Hammer ? When, he was just here ?

He's just wounded.
The next one might be fatal though.

Even if it is like Lou said...cyber happy hour or such, I think we need to take a much tougher stand and throw out the drunks.

When are you and others going to get it through your head, that NO ONE is bashing anyone just because they are a pro. No one should get preferential treatment on here, but that is exactly what you are asking for. Guess what, you obviously already have that. The ONLY reason anyone on here bashes pros when they post is because of the dumb stuff that they post! Being a pro doesn't alleviate one from being or saying stupid stuff and getting called on it. Yet, for some strange reason, you and Wilson think it does.

You see Wilson, this is exactly what so many are complaining about, that you don't seem to hear at all. Why play favorites, or in this case, non-favorites?? SJD didn't do anything that others, including the owner, and you in this very quote, didn't do. He calls someone a mental midget, Mike calls a bunch children, Glen calls guys girls names to insult, YOU call another member a drunk. Why is only SJD banned? Where is the fairness or standards in that?

How is anyone supposed to follow the rules when the only rules are who you like and who you don't like around here??

Yeah, I as well am looking forward to the day that they can come on AZ and interact with the rest of the members without trying to touch our wallets.

Until then. Happy Face Booking.

Many of them talk poorly of AZ and the members. You think that doesn't get back here. Maybe leaves a bad taste in our mouths.

And why do they talk badly, because we tend to speak out minds when someone pops in once a year to put the touch on us, thinking that we are nothing but a ship of fools.
