An Over Looked Part of The Game

This reminds me of the advertising campaign Folger's Coffee used when it introduced its coffee. The commercials only said "Folger's is bringing a mountain to Chicago!" Nobody had heard of Folger's at the time, so it generated a lot of curiosity. The mountain turned out to be the fact that Folger's is mountain grown (like all coffee, I think).

My guess, considering that Tom is no longer a youngster, nor am I, is ..... your health.

What the heck is a BARLEY sandwich?

I've just started paying real close attention to this... I bring a few Cliff protein bars and I like those Shot Rokz (also by Cliff) for occasional munching.

I try to always stock 2 complex carb bars in my case. Sometimes the hours fly by when you're playing and next thing you know you realize you hadn't eaten in 6 hours and you're feeling a little spacey and weak. Pump some water and complex carbs and you can truly tell the difference physically.

Mybe this???

Maybe it is "to breathe"...???

or tempo, rythm, or pace from shot to shot???

or sharpness of vision of the eyes???

or maybe the all elusive..."being in the zone"???

hmmmm...Maybe being in a "positive mindset"...???

is it playing with and having alot of " CONFIDENCE "...???

I would have to say imagination. every shot u shoot, your brain takes pictures of the results. the more u focus on the results of any shoot, english, draw or follow. the more u can zone in on the exact shape by adjusting your english from your current pictures your brain took. most people take a shot and get mad when they miss there shape instead of focusing on the results of the cue ball on the cloth. all cloth plays different. just like some cue balls play different.

First of all, thanks for making this the most popular thread I've started, so far.

Like I said before, "There were a lot of great answers. I was going to recognize all of them but there were to many of them. I don't know how to copy all this stuff and I type at the speed of a snail.

It took many posts but the answer I was looking for finally popped up.

The winner is Ghosst. He mentioned the stance and bridge. I wasn't looking for stance, I've read that many times in many threads. The one I was looking for was bridge or more precisely, "BRIDGE HAND."

The bridge hand is the FOUNDATION of every shot we play in the game of pool. If you don't align it properly on every shot there is no way your going the make the shot. It not only performs that function but it also determines where and how you are going to strike the cue-ball and send it in motion.

The distance we place it from the cue-ball is also a very important part of each shot. It determines whether you have a good stroke or one that isn't that good.

I also use my bridge hand as an early warning device. If I can't make a comfortable bridge before I shoot, I can't pull the trigger. Even if I miss the shot, at least I gave myself the best chance to make it.

With the advent of JUMPING balls the bridge hand has become an even more important. tool. Although I have seen it done, "Try jumping with only one hand."

I know this is included in the fundamentals of the game but I feel strongly that the BRIDGE HAND is a vastly overlooked function in the game.

Thanks to all of you that posted and participated in my thread. That's all I got. I hope this helps some of you improve your game.

The most important aspect of pool (and life in general in my view) is it's SUPPOSED TO BE FUN! If you don't enjoy playing, why the hell do you keep doing it.

Sit back, relax, bang the balls, and HAVE FUN!

I like the way you think....what's with the ants? :)

The winner is Ghosst.

I'd like to thank the Nobel Academy ... crap, wrong speech. Can I have a blonde for my prize??

Seriously though, it is a glaring issue I see many people hampered by and one I try as often as invited to help them with. Personally, closed or open matters little; it's more about the tripod-style of stance for me. If you have no pressure on the bridge hand to keep it steady, you might as well shoot one-handed.

IMO.

Dammit Ghosst! You've only been back for a short while and already you are once again proving yourself to be a winner. Don't you ever get tired of being a winner?

OK, so I agree that the bridge hand has been an overlooked issue for discussion. You suggest no pressure on the bridge hand is an important protocol.

Tom suggested that bridge hand placement is critical to success and I will agree with that as well. I sure wish that there was some forumla to share with the other posters as to where to place the bridge.

Max Eberle has some EXCELLENT discussion of different type bridges and their uses in his 3 part pool instructional DVD. For those interested, he has a sale on the item if you check his Facebook Account. The sale is a monster of a sale.

Now Ghosst, what the hell was it you won anyway?

Joey A and the Ghosst, he spells like I do. For being the first two responders to my answer. The both of you will receive round trip tickets to PALUCAVILLE. It's an all inclusive you won't get anything. The Ghosst may receive the blonde he desires though. If he can afford her.

Thanks again for your interest.

Some people say I live in Palookaville but I've never been to Palucaville so I guess if it's not too far away, I can make time to visit. :grinning-moose:

Let's see?
You ask us a question that you already have the answer to.
You don' share that answer until there dozens of incorrect answers.
We look foolish and ignorant in our vain attempts to read your mind.

Answer: You're my ex-wife?

Oh yeah-Bridges-So?? What about em? What's right? Says who? What does Grady, Jay, Bob, Tom, Neil, etc say.....? And Spidey and Lou and PJ.....?

Just kidding...a good topic about an overlooked important fundamental worthy of talking about and disagreeing about.

I like the way you think....what's with the ants? :)

My last name is Antrim and I had a teacher in primary school that used to get mad at me a lot and yet out Antfarm. He had nicknames for all the kids. I guess mine just stuck with me through the years.

I know the answer. I will wait for you to tell us the answer then I'll tell you if I had the same answer in mind.
