Ditto for me, cuz I don't want anyone to know that I'm Scott Roberson. You all are soooo easy! :p

The only time I have a problem with people using screen names is when they hide behind it in order to constantly be ignorant. The trolls, flamers, immature idiots that they are. They're cowards... we know it and they know it. Having a screen name doesn't make one a bad person. Abusing the anonymity of it to show your ass makes one a coward, idiot, moron, immature asshole without a hair on their ass or balls to back up their ignorant rants. :p
In a warped kinda way, this really turned me on!! :D

Dave

okay. You have a nursery selling fruit trees. And you're a square dance caller in your spare time. You also have your own music page for your small music store business while you play guitar for a living; you know geometric math so well you have a poincare page, you race cars, play college football, teach Molecular & Cellular Biology at U.C. Davis, and you sell real estate in Arizona. You're very busy- just on the first page of Google.

If I had my own weird and unique name on here, you'd know a lot about me and about my 2nd cousin with the same name, who played college soccer.

I'm anonymous because i'm afraid the clowns will get me... can't sleep, clowns will get me.

It's almost a bit dorky to use your real name, but I really can't be bothered trying to remember a bunch of identities, so I use my own name.

It does make you consider what you post considering the potential risks of being googled, but I trust myself not to do anything too stupid or shameful that I can't face up to.

I'm not bothered about being tracked down by psychos, probably because I believe in karmic destiny, but that doesn't float everyone's boat.

Some get a bit peeved by others using monikers, but it doesn't worry me. It's just the ideas they express that I pay attention to.

The nom de guerres (false names/identies to attack) are a tad petty, but you know what they say about sticks and stones:p

It is a discourtesy ( down right rude ) to hide who you are when trying to converse with a community such as this. It's just your name. Not ashamed of it, right?

If anyone were in a pool room with total strangers, nobody would be trying to hide their identity behind a stupid screen name, would they?

Security, fear....etc....I think are all cop outs to protect the names of people who feel that they can be total losers on the net.

Mr. W.,
I couldn't disagree more. There are several well respected players and instructors who just lurk here - they know that if they shed their anonymity they will be subject to harrassment by the lowest common denominator or from the totally unreasonable trolls.

I think there are MANY people in the pool halls who keep their true identity a secret - perhaps you haven't been in enough pool halls yet.

Joseph Goebbels name and face were very well known during the peak of the Third Reich - I have a hard time giving his propaganda more credibility just because I could pick him out of a line up.

I think all forum members would be wise to have a healthy skepticism for anything they see on the internet; whether the author is anonymous or not. The exception would most likely be the pro's - I give their opinions much more weight than mine or yours (even though D'maker will soon be posting your SS#, credit card #, and list of felonies and misdemeanors).

well, your name is pretty common, so it makes you harder to track down. it'd be hard to stalk you.

are you the d wilson who lives on Jackson Blvd with an s wilson? are your neighbors the Cooks and the Edziks?
if that is you, for $50 i can get info about you on
Criminal Check
Bankruptcies
Tax Liens
Legal Judgments
Address History
Alias Names
Sex Offenses
Relative & Roommate
Neighbors
Home Valuation
and your last 11 adresses.

there are so many dave wilsons in md., who knows if that's you. perhaps you're the dave wilson who works at Tri Supply and Equipment?

i doubt you'd find more than a couple dozen people in the world with my last name, and probably no one else in the world with the same first/last name as me. never thought i was hiding anything by not having my last name here. it just never occured to me. but i don't mind people having to work a little if thay want to stalk me.

Good try, but still no cigar.

Like I said, I'm nobody.

Granted, there are even THREE Dave Wilson's just within my family, which just makes it even more difficult to pick me out.

Even knowing more detailed info......why the bother?

Most of us don't share detailed infor about ourselves that we really think is sensitive.

It's just an opinion. I prefer that little glimmer of ( perceived ) trust that comes with what I perceive a real name.

Just a comfort zone.
Far from failsafe.

You mean you aren't going to post a picture of yourself, your first and last name, the city you live in and a list of the valuable pool cues you have in your house?

Anybody who gives out that much information on themselves and then gets burglarized, PLEASE don't cry that your stuff got stolen.

Sure they do. I introduce myself to strangers as "Lufawnda".

There's a few Timberly's out there but I doubt any of them have my last name.

are you the dave wilson i went to high school with. you used to hang out with phil white and dated whats-her-name?

last year i was watching poker and a guy with the same name as a guy i went to grade school with was playing. Gavin Smith. Thought it was neat he had the same name as someone I used to know. (The very first time that happened to me, was 8 or so, and there was I guy ony soccer team with the same name as a guy who worked with my dad. that blew my mind back then.) anyway, name like Gavin Smith is about as rare as Dave Wilson, so I never thought it was the same guy, until a couple of weeks later there was an article on him in the local paper because he had won a few million playing poker in the last year. so it turned out it was the Gavin Smith I'd gone to school with. Damn. I wish I'd stayed in touch with him. I'msure he'd love if it i contacted him out of the blue now. i bet he could afford to buy me a pool table.

There were 2 Timberlys in your school??!!.....OK, OK, I got it. When you were growing up, you came from a part of the country that had a lot of logging going on. Your dad had a job as the "cryer" for the camp...whenever a tree was being cut down, it was up to him to keep everyone out of harms way by crying...."TIMBERRRRRRRRRRRRRR! When your mom was having you, you just kinda fell out while your father was present and he automatically screamed....
"TIMBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-ly". And that's the story of how you got your name and you can't tell me otherwise. :p ;) :D

I've got a standing offer... had it for yrs... a free 6 pack to anyone that comes up with something original... something I haven't heard before... no beer for you! :p

But, my neighbor is a lumberjack. ;)

You must have stayed at a Red Roof Inn last night.

I hung out with a Danny White, who was related to a Dallas Cowboys quarterback.

As far as "what's her name"....Help me out here........what was her name?

BTW, I went to Camelback High in Phoenix, Arizona.

I use my first name, you use your last

I don't like any of your answers and none of the above isn't an option. I suspect that there are as many people named "Mr. Wilson", if that is your real name, as there are with a first name of Hu.

If you really don't want to be anonymous put your first and last name, address, driver's license, date of birth, social security and phone number. Or put any three and a reasonably astute stalker or identity theft artist can get the rest for themselves.

Personally I use Hu everywhere on the Net that will accept a two letter name and that there isn't someone else using the name. The deep dark secrets why? It is consistent, reasonably unique, and requires the least keystrokes of any of my names to type. When you are as poor a typist as I am and type it as many times a day as I do, these things count. Embarrassing to misspell your own name!! :D  :D

Hu

I hate anonymous posters!!!

Oh wait, I'm an anonymous poster ...

I guess I hate myself... I am so conflicted...

Of course if I used my full name, evreyone would be like, um... who the heck are you.

So if noone knows a person who posts yet they use their own name aren't they still anonymous...

(My head hurts) :(

At least I sign my name to my posts... :D
