If you won't buy a case from jb or justis, who would you buy one from?

I'm thinking of buying a case, torn between cheaper storage, or just a nice 4x8. I'm leaning towards a swift currently. Who would you pick?

I have a custom case from Garth at onQcases.com that I bought almost 3 years ago. Its great quality, has held up great and most importantly it has protected any cue I have put in it. I have a second one on order now. Garth is a great guy and really easy to deal with.
Best of luck on whatever you choose, and lets hope this thread doesn't get invaded by the case hijacker.

After those two, I'd look at Brian Bonner at Nittany Leather. I love his construction, thick leathers, and understated styling. I don't own one but have heard good things about his cases.

I would buy a Melton Case Hands down, they hold their value, they are truly hand made, and they will appreciate in value with time. Now this is based only on the first sentance in thread.

Take Care

if you were going to go the cheaper route remember that jb helped redesign sterlings cases.

my wave case and the 4x8 i picked up from fastnloose here both offer great protection for the price you pay for them.

I own a Ron Thomas without any sewn-on pockets, but with an internal cup to hold my pocket chalker and willard.

The look of Mr Thomas' cases is quite classy, and I like the plain design. I'm not into cases with too much decoration. :-)

I considered buying a GTF case instead as they offer some nicely printed leathers, but they become much more expensive when built to order. Ordering a Ron Thomas with my specifications was actually cheaper than a GTF.

Best regards,

Detlev

His website doesn't show the interior of his cases...what's it like? Tubes?
Something else?

Have been thinking of a 4X8 for my nephew as a gift...

I'm still a fan of It's George cases old and new. I am also really liking GTF cases too.

You should consider Murnak also. His cases are very nice and have a lot of room to store stuff.

Well, I just ordered a talisman tribal 3x5 case. I have heard notjing but good things about them. I got mine from seyberts, they are having a 10% off sale right now, and with no shipping and no tax, I think I did pretty well.

I can give a more info once I recieve it, which should be in a few days.

I really like the style of these cases, and I have yet to see one in person. I think this is a huge plus. I really do like the instroke cases, but I really just got tired of seeing them. I wanted something a little different.

Yes, they are padded tubes. The shafts & butts can go in either way so there is a little bit of movement but its minimal and the padding is fairly thick. I prefer my shafts to go tip up to keep the bluing of the shaft down. The bottom of the case appears to have foam with a strip of leather on top. The top of the case has a thick piece of soft lambs wool if I recall correctly.

I'm thinking I"d like a GTF. JB protection with George looks. Works for me.

If I counld not own a Justis or John Barton.

MY SHORT LIST would be.

Ron Thomas

Dennis Swift

Whitten

Rusty Melton

The question is, what is your primary use? Is it for storage or for taking around with you?

Have you ever owned a 4 X 8? They are really heavy when full and hard on the leather straps and your shoulder. Why do you need a 4 x 8? What do you carry with you?

For playing, I have a 2 X 4 Justis with a pocket and it has everything I need. Cue with two shafts, break cue with 1 shaft, jump shaft and pocket for jump cue handle.

Then I have storage cases at home, mostly 12X 24's. For inexpensive storage, I really favor the Porper cases. They are durable enough, very affordable, light, come in a variety of configurations, and offer decent protection around the house. Also, they stack well or stand on end - so if you add to your cues they'll take up less space.

For my carrying case, if I couldn't have a Justis and wouldn't buy a JB, I would definitely go for a Swift. He hads a couple of styles I like and the cases are very durable and well priced.

Dang Joe how many cues are you planning on getting?

Yup, I still like the Its George cases too. I bought an older one a few years ago that had never been used :)

Doesnt JB have something to do with or make the GTF cases? Or did I get the wrong information?

Custom - I would buy a Whitten.
Production - I would buy a Porper.

If I couldn't or wouldn't buy a Barton-made case or a Justis.
