Another Question For CJ Wiley

If I read correctly, I believe the following is a quote of John Barton from his Facebook Page. It was placed under the pic of CJ & the 'young hat' (A comment I guess from a hat maker in Chicago:wink:).

I just thought it should be more visible in this thread & I want to echo the sentiments.

You're doing a great job, CJ.

Can you please hurry with the new game. I was just starting to get involved with One Pocket & I'm too much of football mentality for that.

Keep doing what you're doing. Also you're the best 'sweater' I've seen on AZB.

Speaking as someone who just really loves pocket billiards and would like to see it get the attention and respect the game and players deserve, I just would like to say that I appreciate ANYONE who is willing to put in the time, work, sacrifice to try and make this happen. And, with the kind of reputation and experience CJ Wiley has, he is definitely one of the people who can make this a reality... Now, that is not me bragging on him, that is simply a fact. A lot of people complain, and few try to do anything about it... And when someone DOES try to bring something new to the table, it's bombarded with criticism and negativity by the people who say they love the game... One thing is for certain, something needs to change in order to get pocket billiards the respect it deserves.
Thank you, CJ, for your enthusiasm and work that you've put forth towards bettering "the game." It's an inspiration to me and gives me hope for the future of a sport that I love

Fast Lendon, old buddy....Puhleeeeeeeeeze !... Lets us have a drink or three, and I will convince you that Bogus Ball, is deader, than dead !..And, it deserves to be !..I love ya, but please, for your sake, do not go down that road again !..BB ain't a bad game, and I'm sure I would have enjoyed playing it myself....But the odds of it ever making it into mainstream televised pool, are about 750,000 to 1.... (our favorite game, 'one pocket', is only about 200,000 to 1 ;)

SJD--I would also bet, there ain't enough money in the world, to get sweet Michaela Tabb, to come over here again ...All these window's are wide open !..Lets post...I know you will take my check.... See you at the Mezz tour this week-end :)

Haha, I knew this post would draw you in. I will see you this weekend and I will give you the first break, one pocket for some small change.

Maybe you're right, I should let someone else do that - here's a post from John Barton's Facebook page today by a beautiful, young lady.

Posting pics from Facebook is against the rules. Thanks.

Would you watch that game for those 37 seconds?

Yes, one pocket has some good attributes, however, there's too defense as a rule. The greatest players play more offensively, however, you still have to be dedicated fan to understand what they're even doing. Even with brilliant one pocket commentators like Billy Incardona and Danny D. it's difficult to communicate the deeper strategies.

This game isn't just about some rule changes, it's about strategically formatting a game that creates mentally stimulating situations ever game.....that commentators can "put on a number".

I'll let you "decipher" that statement, with this one hint. If you turn on a TV and two teams are playing (that you don't care for at all), BUT, it's fourth down, and goal, they're behind by 6 and there's 37 seconds left - winner advances to the play offs.

Would you watch that game for those 37 seconds?

Why?

Agreed I would watch the 37 seconds and then turn it off. You would be broke.

If I advertise, I want you for the entire 2 hours, not just the last 37 seconds.

That's the difference...

So your new game is shooting of a spot shot. Brilliant. Are you going to have to wear a jersey to play?

If you flip through the channels and catch Lifetime mid-mamogram..

I'll be trying something different in a couple of months. If any of my plans followed along the lines above.. I'd just give up.

Not being about to put pool situations "on a number" is the issue

I agree with you Ken, I'd do the same thing......however that's not really the point.

The point is how they systematically create an instant, emotional attachment for fans.

ESPN was on the right track with this match (click here), however, they were still held back by the rules of the game........of course ESPN only knows what WE show them, so it's certainly not their fault.

Not being about to put pool situations "on a number" is the issue, it keeps us from getting the viewer emotionally involved like my football example.

we will be wearing boots, a cowboy hat and be wearing pistols on our sides

No, we will be wearing boots, a cowboy hat, wearing pistols on our sides. LoL

I'd watch. You are finally up to something.

p.s. People don't flip channels anymore - they use the guide to pick what they want to watch.

Are there any of those people on this forum? My guess is a firm YES!!!

This is all being done for those that really love the game and play it for passion and enjoyment.

Are there any of those people on this forum? The answer is a firm YES!!!

Unfortunately 99% of these players won't make comments, however they so send lot's of PM's and emails to ask questions, provide comments, and voice concerns.

Hopefully the moderators will work their issues out and allow this to happen without the constant heckling of the few that may not even enjoy pocket billiards on a regular basis.

I've always thought of pool as a way to express myself. Some people play music, write poems, draw/take pictures, create business plans, teach, martial arts, govern, sing, dance, etc. - I use pool to satisfy this "artistic desire".

Pool, to me, is also a microcosm of life in general with scenarios like "risk/reward", "win/win", "win/lose", "goal setting", "human nature tests", "structured rules", "honesty/dishonesty", "systems & controls", "capitalism", "money management", "socialism", "democracy", "social skills", compassion, understanding, problem solving, meditation, hand/eye coordination, calibrating people, gambling, drug/alcohol reality, reading road maps, etc.

I've learned a lot about life, people, human tendencies, and especially myself playing and competing at pocket billiards (and other games/sports). I'm told humans can learn life just living "life on life's terms," and I'm not sure it could be as well rounded and diversified as matching up and competing. If you can survive in the greatest pool rooms you certainly have a head start on those that just learned in class room environments.

I'm not sure if I love pool, have a passion for it, or was just destined and born to play. Can any of us honestly answer that question? One thing's for sure, we've had "life experiences" that we could get no other way
I'd watch. You are finally up to something.

Six goals - you've got to be kidding me lol

One of the things that was a "red flag" to me was when their leader told me he got 12 months free rent on the building. When I ask him what he would do on the 13th month, he said, "I guess we'll have to wait and see"....the way he said it led me to believe there would be no 13th month, I just didn't understand why (at the time).

Bonus Ball is new, but it lacks too many key elements, especially because of the complexity of the game. It's tough for even a seasoned player to follow. Then they changed the rule so you could make the last ball in any pocket.

Games have one target, and there's a very good reason for that, anything else appears silly to an affluent audience.

Basketball has one rim - Imagine an NBA player missing a shot and it goes in another basket, one of six.

Football has one goal - imagine a field goal kicker missing, it hits the uprights and goes though another one of six

Hockey has one goal - soccer has one goal - tennis has one court - golf has one hole
dart has one board - fuss-ball has one goal - baseball has one home plate

Not calling pockets in pool is just as silly in my opinion. I'm sure others would disagree, however I'd like to debate this topic sometime, it's one of the flaws of pool these days, and it's so obvious. In the days I used to play in a lot of bars you HAD to call pockets, and kisses or you may get hit over the head with a pool cue.

Maybe that's the approach we all should take. ;) 'The Game (with one target) is the teacher.

Arena is still there and yet they were unable postpone for a week so they didn't over lap with a previously scheduled event. Priceless !!!!!

Being in favor of call pocket seems contradictory towards your love of the two way shot.

Explain.

Not calling shots in pool makes the "game" into a glorified for of pinball.

In any two way shot there's one target, and you have to call it.

Another form of "two way" shot is one that has two components, one offensive and one defensive - still one target, and you must call it.

sorry, but i couldn't resist reposting this pic.

this is why i don't like 9ball - it's slop, in my opinion. (yea, yea, i'm gonna take some heat for this!) while i grew up w/ all boy cousins & their pool table, it wasn't until i was 16, when my step brother took me out shooting in Pontiac, that i started learning how to shoot. (he was 20 & i was able to buy beer for him.)

i quickly figured out that "ïf i hit them hard enough, something's bound to drop"....
and he was quick to correct me that "if you want to play a man's game & earn respect as a girl, you're gonna have to CALL IT".

KK9 plays 9ball & loves the ability to see the layout of the table @ break & run of the balls; his strategy. 1 through 9....boring. what he doesn't factor in, is that i'm going to always go for the combo if possible, and/or bank or kick if necessary, and i don't push or safety; my strategy. he accuses me of ruining the integrity of the game all the time for not taking the "standard shot" (which is why we don't play often).

but i call EVERY shot regardless of its obscurity. and if it drops in the wrong pocket, it's his turn. i don't do bridges either.

try finding someone who will agree to all of the above, and it'd be a whole new game. especially when yáll have to s-t-r-e-t-c-h waaaayy across the table with 1 foot on the floor. ;)

SJD is a shoe in for "The Bad," and Wedge is a lock to be "The Ugly".

I will wear whatever's necessary to get a regular schedule with ESPN. This Game I'm going to release will have a Texas flair to it, although I was thinking more along the lines of 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," I figured I would have to play "The Good," SJD is a shoe in for "The Bad," and Wedge is a lock to be "The Ugly".

Are you bringing back bumper pool??!??!! I would totally watch that. :)

"It's simple in it's complexity, it takes 5 minutes to learn and a lifetime to master

That's funny, although the world's best bumper pool players were from the Dallas Texas area, "Marcus," and "Whoppy". The next best was from New Mexico, if memory serves me.

No, sorry to say that's not the Game, however it would be more entertaining than what's being played now by the professionals. I assure you this new Game is different than anything you've ever seen.
