Another Suspect Auction on Ebay (Balabushka)

Here is another cue auction from a seller with 0 Feedback, selling a Balabushka, with a letter from Pete Tascarella. Looks fake to me, however, it has been Bid up to $2700 and it ends in the morning.

I saw this one too Craig. Too many strange things about this cue to bid on it. It may or may not be a Balabushka. I can't afford to take that chance. It was on there once before and someone inquired as to whether it had been verified by Barry S. and the seller wouldn't answer. He pulled the auction though.

I saw tha too. And even trien to read the letter of authenticity. Just like you manwon I am always leary of bidding on anything from a seller with '0' feedback. Ebay has become a mecca of scoundrels and crooks that feed on unknowledgable folks. Sad to say!!

There is nothing about the cue that looks bad, but the pictures aren't good enough to be fairly sure that it is good.

At the price the auction ended at, it was probably worth a chance.

I'm afraid to deal with an ebay seller with "0" feedback unless someone I know can vouch for them. I don't care how good the deal sounds I just don't want to take the chance of getting burned.

Look at the size of the keyboard relative to the size of the cue...the photo has been cut and pasted. Auction ended at $3,051. I think someone got screwed.
:p

This is a scam auction and it's the same one that's been done a number of times. It's a copy of an original legit auction - they're fishing for suckers.

Thanks for the info.

I'm glad I didn't see it before it ended.

Does anyone have a feel for the relevence of the "reasonably straight" comment on the Tasc letter. My question is if straightness is a deciding factor when the cue is highly collectable like this, or any highly collectable cues , Szamboti, Martin, Rambow, etc. Nobody would want to buy a "reasonably straight" cue to play with, so is collecting a completely different story?

For a cue that's 40 years old, "reasonably straight" is very good. Tascarella always comments on the straigthness of the cue in his review, and I like that. In fact, I like everything that Tascarella does in his letters and so forth. He includes a lot of useful information and answers most questions.

A noticably warp will definitely hurt a collector's cue value, but not kill it like it will a playing cue.
