Any cuemaker specialize in thin shafts (12 mm or less)?

I like to play with a thin shaft (11.75 or 12 mm). I see many cues for sale or trade that I'd like to try, but the shafts are usually 13 mm (or somewhere between 12.5 and 13). So, I have to get the shaft turned down, or have a new one made.

Is there anyone out there who routinely make cues with thin shafts? I know any good maker can do a thin shaft, but I'm talking about someone who is known for them. Also, I'm talking about solid maple shafts, not laminated ones.
 
Snooker shafts?

Try looking at guys that make snooker cue shafts. Should be found some where on the world wide web!
 
Players has an 11mm snooker shaft with a 0.60" ferrule and short euro taper that plays damn good for $50.

Specializes in thin shafts? Thats like specializing in size 11 shoes.

I make solid maple shafts.
I am not a wizard, and don't do magic, if you want a 11.75 mm at the tip I can do that.
You want a nice slender shaft that's all animal on the table I can do that too.


I would need 60 days to get one down to 11.75 mm
What tip and ferrule do you want and do you want just a shaft or the whole cue.....?
 
No magic in shaft making, just make sure you start with a quality piece of maple.
 
Essentially any cuemaker can make such a shaft. But pool cue shafts traditionally are made at or around 13mm and anything from there is a modification of the "norm".

When asked for a cuemaker that "specializes" in 12mm or less I am hard pressed to think of one. To me that means he, as a standard, supplies shafts with his cues that are at or under 12mm or that he as a rule sells shafts in that size range, or that he has a special reputation for building such shafts.

I don't know any.



Mike offered to make you one earlier. And I will vouch for his integrity 100%. He is of solid character. He said it would take 60 days.

I was pretty sure that was the case. If I'm having a cue made (like I just did), obviously, I'm going to order it with a thin shaft. It would be nice to just buy a cue (new or used) I want to try, without having to deal with altering the shaft or getting another one made :( Why can't the world conform to my preferences? :D

I could try to get used to thicker shafts, but it's hard to go back. I feel like I'm playing with a log.

Just need to find people who also like thinner shafts selling cues that they ordered with them. They're not common because not that many people seem to play with them, but I've certainly seen them before.

I know the feeling...13mm isn't my favorite. I can play with it, but I prefer 12mm. I had my Runde made with two 12.75mm shafts and then later on added a 12mm shaft and I love my 12mm shaft and it's now my playing shaft. It just feels perfect to me.

Maybe that's my problem, HMMMMM I could use a black magic maker on a solid maple shaft, I will call it Voo Doo wood and charge 3 times more :grinning-moose:

Specializes in thin shafts? Tiger, Predator, OB, CueTec, Pechauer, Jacoby, Lucasi, and many more.

I want to know if you can hit closer to the center of the CB and get comparable spin/english to move it around the rails. The tip may stay in contact with the surface of the CB longer as it bends and rotates the CB.:)

Hell no. No compromizing you game to fit equipment. Use what feels right.
