The Billiard Palace in Ancorage Ak. is back open, their going to have a tourny at the end of the month. My mom lives up there, I was going to go up, see her, and play the tourny just wondering if theres any "players".

I think Richie Orem is back living in Alaska. He won the Reno Open. I guess he would be considered a player. You might be surprised at how many players they have there. I am guessing this is the Fur Rondy tournament you're talking about. I played in that event in 2003 when I was stationed up there at Elmendorf AFB. I think I went 2 and out. :D I was still pretty new to the game then.

I'm sure there are many good players up in Alaska. What else is there to do up there? Drink and play pool, and...nevermind, that's done in all states.
When I was up there for a few years in the early 1960's the bars were a gold mines for good action, you just had to be careful when you left with the money. I had one of the Native's pull a knife on me in an alley between the bars. Unfortunally for him I had a bigger knife. Johnnyt

Did you really kill an eskimo is a dark alley? JohnnyT has lived a full life, people.

It's the land of shortstops. Lots & lots of B+, A- players. There's a few solid A's. In fact, almost everybody carrying a cue has some game. It's fun. You should give it a try. I haven't been to the new BP but used to frequent the original when I lived there. I'll be retiring & moving back up there in about 3 years. It's fun town for pool.

I was stationed at Ft Wainwright (Fairbanks) from 1995-2000...there was a nice pool hall there across from Carrs Foodland....I played a guy named Buddah there...he and I got to talking and he knew Jeff Melton (from Tulsa) I also went down to Anchorage a few times and there was a mall there and had a really nice pool hall in it....

I am going to transfer to the VA up there in Anchorage in the next cpl years. Me and the wife miss it way too much. Its alot easier living, alot cleaner, and the school system is alot better up there, the student to teacher ratio is alot better..my wife is a teacher and I am sure we will be up there by 2011

The only reason Im going to name any names, is cause the few that Ill give you are no big secret.

I wouldnt expect to see Richie Orem, havent seen him play in Anchorage in a long time, not sure what hes up to these days.
Sad news about the "New" Palace.... the tables arent set up wellat all.

Anchorage Billiard Palace

The Anchorage Billiard Palace re-opened almost a year ago in the new location on 'C' street.

A lot the old antique tables are again being played on-including the 6x12. When I was there in October, the place looked great. Food was good and the tables were fine. Two tables had some problems (1 was the 6 x 12) but that is the norm for antiques. They take awhile to adjust to the new environment of a room.

The slate had cracked and shaled on a 9' table and the 6x12 slates were disintegrating. Both have been fixed - so I don't think anyone will be dissappointed. It is by far the best room in Alaska.

How is Junior doing. I played him some here in San Antonio last year and we had some pretty good battles. He's a good kid.
