I play for the competition, myself. Something way down deep inside likes to beat somebody else at something. I like to be in competition to see how others handle the pressure. When playing against other weaker players, I try my best to show them the game as it should be played. When playing against stronger players, I want to improve to the point where they respect my game to play me hard.
Are you playing against other players? Or are you just practicing by yourself? Are you setting up challenges for yourself in practice? Or are you just trying to pocket balls.
I need to find others to play first. I only want to play people as strong as I know I can play, but finding someone here to play is difficult. my "practice" regimins are playing people almost as strong as me, but even that is boring the heck out of me. c'mon winter time! I HATE snow, but love the pool room activity in this city. I wish it was all year round!
Are you the strongest player in your town? If that's the fact then I would suggest going on the road. I don't mean for a living, I mean for about a week. Visit local towns near you and match up. If that doesn't bleed it back into you than I don't know what will. If you aren't the strongest player in town, then match up with a guy who is a ball better than you and play him even. You will donate for awhile but your game will grow a bit stronger. If you are the type that doesn't feel like donating to the good players from time to time than I guess you have to rely on tournies to play the more advanced players. That will get very boring and you will burn out. You feel like you have hit a plateau. Get about a 100 that you don't need and gamble some 10 to 20 dollar sets nine ball with a better player. Who knows? You just might win. If you beat the guy your not supposed to beat then move up. Eventually you will hit a stump and match up where your chances are slim to none and keep playing him until you can beat him. Might be a week, month, a year even......But you will feel the urge to keep playing, and beat that weasel who keeps robbing you everyday.I've lost quite a bit, But I've won my share too. I don't think I'll ever lose the love for this game. But I'm dedicated to keep getting better.

There is always something to do. If I am playing by myself, I can try and set new high run records. If I miss a ball inexplicably, then there is something to work on.
I guess it all depends on what you want out of this game. I want to be the best I can, and I am certain that I can one day achieve pro speed.
I play because I love the game and I will continue playing because of that.

I really can't.![]()
I want to go out and play now a days, but just can't bring my self to do it.![]()
I guess I'm scared.
I think the reason i quit playing that day was because i was missing too many balls i should never miss.![]()
Any suggestions?

I HOPE you are not saying that your BS is lonely and needs to visit Georgia for the winter?!?!?Barbara said:Duke,
I've just been "off" when it comes to practicing. I haven't taken the cover off my table in nearly 2 years.
