Lately I hear a lot of talk about players that could come back to play world class pool. I say B/S to that. I saw Mike Segal comeback after a long lay off and do pretty good, but nowhere near his old game. Can anyone name anyone that did it? Johnnyt

The Meatman Balsis is the standout here....off a lot more than ten years...
...won a world title.

Cliff Wilson, a Welsh snooker player, quit for over twenty years and came back to make
it to the top 16 in snooker rankings...circa 1980s...
...this may have been more a amazing come-back than The Meatman's....
...at 40, in snooker, you're on the senior tour.

Wu took A LOT of years off for the military(I think) and then he had cancer. He's now 28.

I'm sure age makes a difference. If you come back at 45 versus come back at thirty five the comebackness may differ

Well I quit at 30 and I'm 46 now and its tough for sure .I recommend getting in action instead of tourneys... Same as when we came up , just jump in head first !

After 10 years?

Can it be done? Sure, and it has been done.

Is it common? I would think not.

I came back after 15+ years, and still a solid "C-"

Proof that it never goes away! :grin-square::grin-square:

rodney took a break not 10 years but, the results would probably have been similar.

chohan plays close to where he left-off.

Sigel never played close to his top tournament speed again. Balsis was a Junior champion and then quit completely for eighteen years. He returned to the game and won several major events. Jimmy Caras quit tournament pool at 46 to exclusively tour and do exhibitions for Brunswick. He came back at 57 and won the U.S. Open Straight Pool. Bob Vanover quit the game and went to work in the furniture business. He returned after 20+ years and played better than ever!

Rodney and Chohan both took five year breaks and came back to high level play, Rodney more so than Tony.

It would be far harder to today than yrs back the bar has raised substantialy at a world level for sure and even though our top players are not as many the short stop players are in big numbers even winning a mini tour event is s task for any pro now days
