Anyone else agree Souquet is possibly one of the top 5 most dangerous players ever?

I have, especially of late, been extremley impressed with Ralf Souquet. He played the best pool ive ever seen at the Derby, and the fact that he almost always places high in or wins tournaments is a testament to his consistency. I think he is one of the most consistent players who ever lived, i have never seen him play poorly. Anyone else rank him in the top 5 greats of all time?

I put him right up there. He is consistent. Didn't he just snap off the 8-ball championship in the Middle East? He is a monster at the highest level, and a very good person also.

I love Ralf. I have never bet against him and I dont think i ever will. If i had to send a guy in to play for my life TODAY it would be he BUT there are plenty who would put at least 5 guys equal to him playing today.

What Im saying is ever is a long time and there are probably good arguments for at least 30 of them to play minutely better than RS. If you qualify it "since Mosconi" IM on your team.

I concur

I would definitely put Ralph in the top 5 living. Top 5 ever is tougher for me to say as matching up two players that played different games on different equipment under different settings is a waste of time.

Oh, and I don't get bored watching guys play perfect pool against world class competition for high stakes on tough equipment.

Ralf!!

He's definitely in MY top 5.. for what it's worth. :D

I have a ton of his matches. He is awesome to watch and study. Although, I could see how some people might get bored watching him. He makes every shot look so effortless. And his ball control is so incredible he hardly gets out of line where he 'has' to power stroke his way back in line.

His statistics for getting in the money and top place finishes speak for themselves. Future hall of famer and pool legend in my opinion.

i think it depends on who he plays. he is deff top notch. my friend joey played him at sbe ralph was up like 7-2 alternating break joey tied it at 7 had the out for 8 and the break on 9 what a great match

he was saying playing pool and looking back at your opponent and its freakin ralph is f*ing sick!!!

Ralf Souquet is definitely in the top 5. This guy is more consistant than anyone I have ever seen on T.V or in person. I have seen him play poorly before in a tournament though (Canadian 9ball tour). Know one prepares themselfs more mentally and physically then Ralph does. He keeps in shape, runs, eats properly, his dameaner around the table is 2nd to none. If I had to choose 1 person to represent POOL to show the world what pool is all about etc...would be Ralph Souquet no doubt.

Well, you also have to consider the game when discussing Ralf's greatness. When it comes to 8 ball and 9 ball, he's a beast, but his 1 pocket game is HORRIBLE. I watched Tony Mougey destroy Ralf at DCC two years ago, race to 3 and Tony won in 12 minutes, lol. That is not the only time i've watched Ralf play 1P, i've seen him play several times. Like I said, at 8 ball or 9 ball i'd go with him all day.

I think Ralf finished pretty high in one pocket this year though... Remember that Ralf doesn't gamble, so the only chance he has to play one-pocket is at DCC, at the tournament....

Ralf is a class act, a double World Champion, and multiple European Champion, US Open Champion, DCC Champion, 5 x World Pool Masters, and he finish high in almost EVERY event he joins.

Unfortunately I find him very boring to watch, when he struggles. When he is on, it's a joy to watch him play.

i guess bc its your opinion i cant really argue but mine wouldnt be ralph. not even close. first archer has dominated this sport over the last 20+ years. player of the decade of the 90's and prob 00.

since were going on player of the decades seigel while not the most personable player won a staggering amount of finals matches he played in. like 19 out of 20. he was about as sure of a thing as can be.

all around efren is possible the best player to ever hold a cue. enough said

allen hopkins who most think is the best gambler of all time. although i am bias

earl (with a muzzle) 5 time us open champ

thats not even including the old timers like mosconi or greenleaf who also could be the most dominate player of all time

there are many many players much more qualified then ralph

Would most people here put Souquet as even money with Bustamante, Yang, Chao, Alex, or SVB? (the current best 5 i can come up with off the top of my head)

Of course he's top 5 today.
At 9ball maybe only Alex and Yang have a slight edge over him.

This doesn't mean that he'll ever win the world title again.

I'd suggest Ralf has a more complete playing resume than any player of the last twenty years.

Ralf Souquet has won the World 9-Ball Championship
Ralf Souquet has won the US Open 9-ball Championship
Ralf Souquet has won the US Open 14.1 Championship
Ralf Souquet has won the BCA Open 9-ball Championship
Ralf Souquet has won the Derby City Classic 9-ball Championship
Ralf Souquet has won the World 8-Ball Championship

Ralf is, quite simply, running out of things to accomplish in the world of pool. Archer has won four of these six jewels, which is next best. Bustamante has not won even one of them, yet he somehow manages the occasional mention as one of the all-time greatest, a distinciton his playing resume does not merit.

Other than Efren, I believe that Ralf is the best pool player since Sigel.

2nd: 2001 World Pool Championships
2nd: 2006 World Pool Championships

Won the masters 5 times or more right lol. Although 2nd is not 1st but getting 2nd alone in that tournament is like winning a major title in my opinion. It takes great consistancy and championship like pool to get even close to the final few in the WPC.

Souquet is also :

-20 European titles in 8-ball, 9-ball and straight pool (34 medals)

-13 Euro Tour wins (32 medals)

-2 times BCA open winner

-3 times DCC 9-ball winner

-1998 Reno Open winner

Ralf Souquet... what else ? ;)

Ralf is a definite future Hall of Famer. If anyone sees him, tell him I said that. Then tell him he owes me dinner.

Pay up Ralf.
