Anyone else done this in 9-ball?

I played some 9-ball with a mate a couple of days ago. (Note that I haven't played a lot of 9-ball matching up, maybe a few hundred games).

Anyway, early in the session I made two consective 9-balls on the break, scratching both times in different pockets. (right side and left bottom).

He said he'd never seen that before, and he's played quite a bit.

I wondered how many of you have managed this? Anyone done it 3 breaks in a row? ie: Golden break with scratch.

btw: I made another golden break later in the session...this one legal. Making 3 golden breaks out of about 12 breaks. I like them odds:D

I am so confused..
Are we trying to do it, or are we checking to see if anyone else has had that many bad breaks in a row...
I think I played we too long yesterday and now my head still needs to wake up.

Back in 1987 the Local Pool hall added a 23rd table, it was a Gandy 9 footer. I was the first one to play on it, I made the 9 on the break two times in a row in the upper R.H. pocket, then hung it in the same pocket on the Third break, all with sticking the Cue Ball in the center of the table.

Recently, while playing 8 Ball I made the 8 on the break twice during the one hour we played. Thanks to the Video you posted, I know have an ANIMAL 8 Ball break.:D

My most memorable 9 on the break was on a Snooker table with a numbered set of balls, we used to practice on the Snooker table to sharpen our aim.

Made the nine twice in a row one time. Didn't exactly "park" the cue, but didn't scratch either. They counted!.

Those pretty darn good %'s. I rarely make the 9 on the brake, but, like you, rarely play 9-ball.

While playing Greg Fixx is the Mcdermott Masters years ago, I was leading 10 -5 racing to 11 when he made a 3 ball combo and then broke it in 5 times consecutively. That episode nearly ended my pool playing.

Was it going in/towards the same pocket each time? If so, chances are its how the balls were racked. There was a gap in a certain place that caused the repeats. The standard "statistic" is once in 35 breaks..... but Ive always thought that number was flawed. Some tables get set for it better than others, the racker plays a big part..... lots of factors can help cause it or stop it.
Out of respect for Joe Im not gonna go into details, but if you want to learn about racks and how to read the gaps in a 9 ball rack particularly, buy Joe Tuckers book or video. Ceebee on here has the book as a part of his book, and the videos are available in several places.

Ditto that. I played in a tournament once where it was very difficult to get the #2 and #3 balls in the rack touching for some reason, and there were many, many 9's made on the snap during that tournament. The 9 would always head straight toward a bottom corner pocket, and guys that broke hard were making them 2 or 3 times in a set. It was like we were playing some kind of carnival game, except it wasn't any fun.

I don’t know whether you are more interested in the number of scratches or the number of 9 balls falling on the break.

Anyhow, I’ve made 4 consecutive 9 ball breaks without scratching on two separate occasions, one time in a tournament and the other playing a ring game. At the time I thought I was pretty lucky, now I believe it had a lot to do with a racking oversight.

Im no math major but i figure the odds on that (discounting the combo) are 52 million to one. Was it rack your own?

In a tournament this weekend I was playing some great pool. I lost to a guy on the winners and losers side that was a good shooter. He got sooo lucky. Winners was a race to 7 and he snapped in 2 nine balls, the losers he snapped in one. From the first one he snapped in to the third it was 6 games. 3/6 sucks when it isn't you makin them, his beak wasn't even that strong. On top of that I got hooked on the few times he missed. Just a bad day, very bad day.

Good to hear you're whacking them balls proper now :D

I made the 8-ball 2 out of 3 one day breaking. It's a lot rarer than the 9-ball. Actually both are pretty rare if the pack is racked right.

I've seen someone make 5 9balls on the break in a row without scratching. This was in a tournament with race to 9. He lost 6-9.

Man, that sounds like a record. I also wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of that one:eek: ...:D

Sometimes the balls just sit into a rack in a pattern that sends the 9-ball toward the corner pocket. If racked properly of course it is very rare as it needs a collision.

Chuck,
For sure, there was a problem with this rack. They were set up by a rack girl. The 9 tended to go toward the corner often.

Rick,
Mainly interested in hearing if anyone else has made the 9-ball twice (or more) in a row and scratched each time. (As doing so kind of sucks) But all unusual golden break stories are worth a listen :)

Colin

I was playing this old black guy the other day who ended up taking about $60 off of me in $2 on the 5, $3 on the 9. Well, I dropped a 9 on the break twice in a row and and the third time came about 4 inches short of the same pocket. It was about the only thing I did right all day.

I made 6 golden breaks in one night on a 9 footer, but never scratched. 4 were in the same race to 9.

As I recall, in 2005 , the World Pool Masters, Marcus Chamat made three or four golden breaks, on another rack the 9 was the first ball down. In one match. I think Imonen was the victim.

No, I was racking, so there was nobody to blame it on.

What is hard to believe is that this same thing has happened twice to me. A guy named Ray Silby in Denver also made it 5 times in a row on me. I must rack better {or worse} than anyone on the planet.

Mike Massey told me he once made it six times in a row.

I made it twice last year.
