I used to love this game on my computer but now I got the iPhone app for $2.99 and I play everyday against real people and it's amazing.

The game is so realistic and the speed of your shot is controlled by how fast you slide your finger across the screen.

You have to beat various bosses in different pool rooms like hard times and it is amazing to see the top computer opponent break and runout the way it does. More impressive than a chess computer imo.

Anyway, add me as a friend I'm Luxury and would love to play against some knowledgable opponents.

I think Tate plays pool with the guy that invented that game, bet he's maybe pretty good at it (he plays strong real pool).

I've got the Droid...does this app work for it yet. Will have to look into it during lunch!

I play almost everyday on my iphone, but while Im on the subway and no internet connection.

The game is pretty fun and well done, though there are parts that I don't like. Basically, it gives you superhuman stroke and the cueball gets ridiculous with a hard stroke.

In "goodluck" mode, I destroy everyone until I get to Slowroll, just cant beat her. In easier modes, everyone is too easy.

Hey I beat the top computer player Curly at his beach house so I'm no slouch. I've run some 3-4 packs on a real table as well so I'm no slouch.

If you beat Curly in "good luck" mode, I need a spot!

Actually I skunked him in hard mode but I didn't know about good luck mode. Thanks.

Hopefully the vp4/vpgold edition rumors will become reality someday. There is still some activity on their message board on sportplanet.com/vp3. I haven't played online in a long time though but it is still a great pool game.

(seems as if sportplanet's website is under construction at the moment)

It is WITHOUT A DOUBT the absolutle BEST pool simulator than has been made by ANY company. Even going back to the original and VP2, Virtial pool hall, and the VP3. The physics, graphics and general play are far and away the best out there IMO.

I have played the desktop versions for years and the iPHONE app is pretty great too. I wish it had "undo" when practicing and a "replay" button to see the shot again, but other than that its prett great. I have only recently played the "online" version on my iPhone. I guess more and more people have bought it and are playing online since before you could sit for hours waiting for an "automatic" match. But lately opponents have been easy to get.

I like it and play it often. My daughter(2yrs) REAAALLLY likes to play and has most of the controls pretty much figured out.

You got it Kevin. The program was developed by Steve Chaplin and one of his associates and is owned and published by his company, Celeris. He's been a close friend of mine for 30 years. They published the first version maybe 20 years ago.

Steve is a highly skilled player (known as Tall Steve) and a computer engineer and programmer. His background included developing some of the most realistic high speed graphics programming we see in animation today.

Because he's a pool player, he's been able to simulate both the game and the physics. It's truly amazing what he's done with that program!

The I-Phone is the hot application and is perfect for the game, but watch out for hustlers!

By the way, I just saw the cover for Virtual Pool 4 and some screenshots. It's going to be better than ever and it will be released in the near future.

Awesome. Could you put in a word for one pocket and pushing out in 9/10ball??? thanks :)

Sure - Steve's an "A" Player in rotation games and a "not so much A" player in one pocket, but he loves the game and he's working on it. I'll see what he's up to with one pocket and push outs.

I used to have a nintendo 64 back in 1999 and I had virtual pool for it. I tried to mimic buddy halls stroke on it and I played the game pretty good... until one day the rails got really boingy. I guess it must of been really humid on there for a while /:

Hi Donny,

My friend Steve (who wrote Virtual Pool) has a high definition projector hooked up to his PC. Believe it or not, we watched you and Shane on TAR on his 12' screen - we were both blown away by how you guys were playing.

That match was the stuff of pool legend! I think people 100 years from now will still be talking about that match.

Just got the word that VP 3 and VP4 (PC and Xbox) have both one pocket games and push outs for 9 and 10 ball. VP4 will have that and a lot more including rules customization and handicapping numerous ways.

You one pocket players can get some cheap virtual practice!

Like I said, I saw some screen shots - how about a 7' bar table with beer stains on the cloth ? Yep, we got that!

Oh well thank you! I hope there is a rematch that will be even better. I see you said they are making a video game for xbox etc... When?

I first played VP in early 1995 on Windows 3.1, as I dimly recall, on a 40MHz Pentium with the multiplier error.

The original VP didn't have jump shots and you could draw the cue ball with a level stick even when it was frozen to the cushion. That was all fixed in the second version, and carom, snooker and other games were added. Virtual Pool Hall had all the shots from the Artistic Billiards (carom) competition built in.

Two physics details that I think haven't gotten in yet (because they are very time-consuming to model) are ball and rail compression. Squirt is in there, though.
