I did a very long time ago and it was one of the funnest things ever. I wanted to try and set up a few games, but I can't remember the rules. Can I get some help with them please?

Yes, I grew up on a snooker table playing golf. Each guy picks a ball and spots it in turn, the 1st hole is the closest corner to your left and then you rotate clockwise. The first guy to pocket his numbered ball in the sixth hole wins. 3 scratches or fouls and you go back a hole. I don't remember if it is BIH or Head string on a scratch or foul but I think it was Head string. Haven't played this in a while but this is how I remember it. Fun Simple game.

I don't know this game, but I do have this bit of advice; don't wear golf shoes on the table, it's not good for the cloth....! lol

About a year or so ago I played a player at Airport Billiards in Indiana. Enjoyed it very much.

I can remember some of the rules like you must make contact with your ball (rail not required) or your opponent can make you shoot again. Lots more rules but I only posted here become it is no fun on a pool table but lots of fun on a snooker one.

I am in the process of trying to get my pool room to snag up a snooker table they can get right away, I love playing golf on them and even enjoy a good ole' game of 9 ball on the snooker table, hopefully they go for it so we can get games of golf going again for $5 a man.

D-Ring is correct! Thanks for jogging my memory. Most fouls on a snooker table result in shooting from the D-Ring.

Try bottle pool on your snooker table, it's a great game. Do a Google for the rules.

rotate pockets counter clockwise

BK...You have it backwards. The first pocket is indeed the upper left hand pocket, at the head end of the table...but you rotate COUNTER-clockwise. The 6th pocket is ALWAYS the left side pocket. Your way, the 6th pocket would be the upper right corner, at the head end (which is Pocket #2 in golf).

Golf is a great game, especially with several players. I never heard of the 3 scratches or fouls making you go back a hole. We always gambled (so much a hole and so much a scratch (hickey), and you got a 'hickey' for a foul...either missing your ball, or shooting it in the wrong pocket. If you were not snookered on your ball, and still missed it completely, it came off the table, and was spotted on the foot spot, at the start of your next turn at the table. If it was snookered, and you missed it, it counted as a hickey, but didn't come off the table. BTW, the only time the CB goes into the D-ring, is when it is pocketed or shot off the table...not on OB fouls, or misses!

You forgot to mention that 'hickies' cost anywhere from 25 cents to the high $5 a 'hickey' game.

I lost enough in a regular (once a week) 25 cent game to quit the game forever.

JAZZNPOOL/MARTIN- want to chime in on this? I know I cant play w/you guys at $20/$2 in the 4-6 handed games. Only will donate in the $10/$1 version trying to learn the game. Tough game. I dont know enough moves. "hold your man" isn't enough to win. Priorities seem to shift to helping others position for "takeouts" as someone gets closer to winning #6 hole.

Its certainly costing me to learn, as it should.

Ps: Martin-sounds like alex is making a move. C-Ya. Best of luck with the business!

Do a search...

JAM and I (amongst others) had a very lengthy thread on the subject and all rules are displayed.

On any given night in Modesto, Ca., at Kim Davenports Championship Billiards, I have seen $10,000 lost and won playing golf. Sometimes in 1 week maybe $30,000 is lost or won in a golf game....Golf is big here....

used to play golf every sunday with the old guys from around town in my basement... sure do miss those games...

I played on 12 and 10 foot snooker tables. The 12 footer was a pretty tough game and that's actually the table I learned to play on.

I've heard of the game at Champion Billiards. From what I've heard, the player that used to lose all the time is doing pretty good at getting his money back. It's nice to hear that someone is able to improve their game that much.

When playing with three or more players, you'd better not be the stranger!

What are the stakes for the daily/weekend 4-7 handed games? I rarely see group games in the SoCal area for more than 20 and 2.

BTW, there are local variations on all the rules. Some places go clockwise rotation instead of counter-clockwise. There are different versions of being hooked or snookered. One place in Colorado plays with pool size balls on the snooker table.

Bellflower Hardtimes rules are the best I know of. I like the game better on a table that does not have overly restrictive pockets as it does not completely eliminate shooting from the game.

Hey Bill,

I'm glad to hear that you are learning the game. You have the skills to be a good player. One of the keys to the game is to advance your ball without allowing your man much opportunity to advance his. Sometimes you have to sacrifice advancing your ball for the moment. Sometimes you have to go after the leader. I'm sure there are many good players on this board. I first learned to play in Detroit years ago. You have to play regularly to play well.

Do I hear you saying another room might open up in the area soon? Whereabouts?

I have in the past, I played golf on a snooker table, that is.

Hell, I used to practice all my drills on a snooker table before going to a tournement, and loved it.

Going from (practice/large table) to (tourney/small table) made things a lot easier, except for banks/kicks. [able to overcome now, got it figured out]

In general, personally, I like practicing on more green than less green.

Golf, is good practice. Just like any game, once you get good at it, move on... and revisit for brush up.

At my local pool-hall (Hollywood Billiards, in Hollywood, FL) we have a 12' Golf table. It was the highlight table for a LONG while - used to be non-stop action with some of the best players [and a bunch of old guys who played the game somewhat decently...respect]. I like the game - but the action on the table has.. well it's not really dead but let's just say it's on the extinction list - very high up on the list..

Great game - played like.... golf.. you put your ball up on the spot (where the black ball is in snooker) and you 'break' (bank that ball towards the right corner pocket aka 'the 1 hole' nearest the D) from the D. The opposing player does the same - and repeats - and then you try and get your ball closer and closer to the whole (playing stratigy) until you sink it.. then it spots and you bank it to the '2' hole, which is the left corner pocket near the D.. from where the Q-ball lays (not nessicarly in the D).
The game sucseeds in the manner (moving clock-wise) until you've reached the side pocket.

It's a fun game, great action game, and we had a GREAT american player playing the game in the hall. A couple actually.

R.I.P Golf table.. you were flat, and the titties you did have were small yet overly round, but you were ALWAYS tight.. just like my ex.

I am by far an expert in the subject. However, I have played my fair share of golf. It is one of the funnest cue games I've played. We always play that the 1 hole is the bottom right hand pocket by the D. Rotating clockwise with the 6 hole being the right hand side pocket. Maybe it is an east coast, west coast thing?:)
