Floating the boat!

Nothing wrong with pic! Don't worry about Shane. He cashes many checks like this all year long. And bigger. The league player will most likely only cash that type of check a few times in his life. League pool floats the boat in the pool playing world. Love it or hate it, league pool is a big factor in the industry. Next would be the not so serious, non league player who purchases a table and all the fixins for his home. I imagine more equipment is purchased by the average not serious player than by pros and amateur league players. As far as the industry not supporting pro players issue, well that's too bad. Wish it were better but until we are all under the same umbrella, nothing will change. The world owes no one a living!!

its actually $7485 actual cash payout for snapping off nationals singles in apa 9ball. there was $500 in outlaw cues and a case and an $1800 ring. dustin will get whacked like 500 by the IRS for those cues and the ring too. The other factors to consider is Dustin had to ante in APA dues, time and money spent to play on a team to stay qualified all year long, play in a qualifier, play in a regional and then he got his shot at vegas. He played great too and deserved to win. From what I saw he was breaking em like a world champ on those bar boxes and really putting together some packages on people.

I don't have a problem with the amateur payouts... My point was the pro payout for the US Open win

Just sad, that's all

Yeah. Shane does. But very few others. That's why America's top pro ranks are getting weaker. Another saying is, "You get what you pay for".

I agree that it's sad that the US open doesn't (or isn't able to) pay out more.

Mr Wiggles, makes a good point as to why the amateur got paid that much.

**** that bugs me...

I should have been holding the yellow tier check for 9ball... Next year I will be that guy mark my words...

Yes there's something wrong with those pictures. It takes me over a month at my real job to earn that kind of money!!!

So true!

Also, how many people played in the 1 hole tourney comparted to the APA shootout? I rest my case.

I would guess that there are many sports that pay out better than Pro pool.

Table Tennis

Bolwling

Lawn Darts

Rock Paper Scissors

Etc......

Well first off...the current ongoing 10 ball pays $15,000 to the winner. Second, there were 54 entrants in the One pocket tournament, how many were entered in the amateurs? 500 to 1000? <I don't know I haven't seen how many entrants were in it, just a guess based on the fact there 1240 entrants in the mens open alone in BCAPL, so I would think its close. That is A LOT more money going into the pot. That is simple math, more players=more entry money=higher pay out.

The amateur doesn't have a sponsor. I think most pros do. I could be wrong.

To be accurate, you should have said:

The amateur doesn't have a sponsor. I think SVB do does. .[/

Most pros are unsponsored. Those that have 'sponsors' often aren't paid in cash...or for more than an event or 2 per year.

Still missing the point...

Amateur - compete occasionally for fun, they have a career

Pro - compete full time to support a family, make a living

Again, I have no issue with the amateur payout. I just think the "US Open" ought to mean something significant to the winner's pocket

If you check out the payouts of the regional tours results after the weekends that have both am&pro tournaments I don't believe you will find any where the pro tournament pays more than the amatuer one. In fact the amatuer pays double or more in a lot of cases. If you can't cash in the top ten in open events you are better off staying amatuer. Johnnyt

That is funny

Sad, but unfortunately true

I think you missed "speed knitting"

This approach will not benefit the game, it's like telling the young players "you are a fool if you get better". Why would anyone practice and leave money to the industry if he wins more in non-pro leagues?..

Why practice? For the love of the game and better pool!

With the scare exception, one would be foolish to pursue recreational activities with the goal of a payday.
