suppose these two played eachother in a race to 8, in the ipt with no shot clock??? what then would one assume this would take to complete???hmmmm???? i figure it would take somewhere in the area of 4 hours, any thoughts?

p.s. yes this was meant to be funny, between the two of them with their ed norton art carny pre-shot manerisums, you could plotz!! but hey, what works for them, works for them right, right!! i might even be on the slower side once i get out there, on stage, as it were.

I'm not sure how long it would take, but the shot clock would be a calendar.

it would take approximately 1 hour before someone in the crowd flipped out and began shooting lol

If you look at old accu-stats tapes of Archer
from the early to mid 90's he shot fairly
quickly, I don't know why he started all the
fidgeting and slow play. Same with Kid D, I
remember watching him at the U.S. Open in 1999
or 2000, and he didn't play slow at all and
I think he was better back then, he looked
nearly invincible. It must be nerves.

My opinion ...

They are all people, and people will develop little habits,
sometimes annoying ones, when they feel pressure. They
are put into situations where they no longer have the 'edge'
over their opponents. I, personally think, that Johnny (and
Earl too) have developed these little things because they
feel themselves slipping on the world competition ladder.
They can no longer go nonchalantly into a tournament with
expectations of winning or placing high. Plus their games do
not seem to be as good as they used to be. They, now, have
to reach deeper and harder into themselves to find that
confidence in their game that once just flowed out of them.
Plus, they have to deal with the inevitable changes that come
about from just getting older.

Their games are fine.
They both slow down the game to pizz the other guy sitting on the chair.
It worked for Danny at the Bike last year.
They are PROFESSIONAL players and they should conduct themselves as professionals. Some players are really slow ( Chamat and Souquet for example ), but Danny powdering his hands, chalking several times, stroking 12 times then getting up and starting over again then a few more strokes then getting up again then finally shooting is called a MOVE.
Johnny destroyed his own game by developing lint phobia.
He should watch his videos back in the mid 90's.

Johnny came here last year for a benefit and took open challenges. Since it was charity and he knew he could beat everyone, he did not play slowly at all. A couple times he picked lint off the table, but they probably were genuine. I do that myself when there are goobers on the table. So it must be nerves or insecurity that makes him do that in competition.

Yeah, a couple of years ago Chamat and Souquet were playing at the Bike at the same time as Efren and Alex. We were watching both matches and after Efren beat Alex we left and had dinner and came back about an hour and a half later and Chamat and Souquet were still going and it continued quite awhile longer. It came down to hill-hill and Chamat had an easy 4 ball runout to win but continued to walk around the table and look from every angle and when he finally shot the easy shot he managed to hook himself and ended up losing. I swear he sharked himself.

Marcus even tried to call a bathroom timeout and the ref told him no.
Marcus and Ralph played from 9 to past midnight on a race to 11.
We stayed because Efren still had one last session match.

Archer vs. KD

Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Archer, Arnold Palmer, Earl Strickland Etc Etc Etc...The great players and winners take their time and do not make a shot/swing until they are ready. If their age or the situation at the time makes them slow down and take a bit more time...good on them for not feeling compelled to just get up and make the shot/swing before they are ready.

If it took 3 hours...and both put out their max - it would be worth it!!!

Danny's actions to me dont even hint at a 'move'. It seems to be totally compulsive habitual behavior. If it is a move, why is he famous for doing exactly the above and taking 5 minutes doing it on a final hanger 9 Ball of a tournament he won? Who is he pulling a move on, the audience?

Shoot the Ball MAN...

All I can say is I watched the Skins Challenge and Danny's figits were just plain annoying...I don't remember when watching him on previous occasions him be 'that figity'...I was like just shoot the @#!* shot already! As for Johnny, I don't think he is nearly as annoying...the picking lint and moving balls when he isn't even shooting in that particular pocket is like ???...Johnny supports our local APA League here in Atl and I have had the opportunity to play him, even took a half day clinic with him...he wasn't nearly as picky...but there wasn't any money pressure...or high pressure opponent for that matter...;)

Admire them both, (especially Johnny), but pick up the pace guys...

How about King Kong? :D

sjm you made really laugh with that one as well as the one by JLW. :D
It's really like watching War and Peace.
First time I saw Danny play was against Bustamante at the Bike on the same tourney.
It was terrible. The people were laughing at Danny or his antics.
He won a tough hill-hill contest but I felt bad for Busta for sitting there watching this guy comsume a bucket of powder, a dozen chalk and a box of Kleenex.
