I went to the grocery store and there are magazines on skateboarding, snowboarding and just about everyother recreational sport. But I see nothing on pool. Are there any?

Pool & Billiard Magazine
Inside Pool
Billiard Digest.

All have websites and are available through subscription, although they seem to be moving towards a far less impressive PDF format recently. :(

In order of which I would recommend:
Billiard Digest
Pool and Billiard
Inside Pool

The content in Inside Pool is good, but there seem to be a lot of problems with people actually getting their subscriptions in a timely manner.

And what's wrong with skateboarding & snowboarding??? J/K :D
I go to Books a Million and they have magazines on frisbee throwing & hacky sack, but no billiards. They used to carry Billiards Digest which I thought was a great magazine, but for some reason stopped carrying it. I was very disapointed with my subscription with Inside Pool and won't do that again. Time to get a subscription to BD.

Rack distribution can be very expensive. There are minimums with regards to print runs and there really isn't much money to be made on the sales from racks.

Rack distribution is essentially a promotional channel to drive subscriptions which is why the rack rate is so much higher than the subscription rate. When you consider the cost to print in addition to the minimum printing requirements and the added cost for national newsstand rack distribution, it often doesn't make sense to use a national rack distributor. Without a national distributor, it is up to the publisher to contact independents and smaller chains which can be extremely tedious and time consuming.

Hope this helps!

just my 2 cents..

If your going to the super billiards expo in philly inside pool and billiards digest will both be there and they charge 20 bucks for a year subscription.

They used to carry it at my local borders but it would either be with games or mens interest. So apparently f$#@%$#@ stupid fishing is a sport but not pool. Douche bags......

I wouldn't take offense at calling it a game rather than a sport, but what pissed me off about borders is they put the pool books in the gambling section next to holdem, like pool is only about gambling. Ignorant. I almost walked out of there because I didn't find anything in sports or games, but passed someone who clued me in to where to look. If they have a gambling magazines section look there :P

That is 70% of the reason I didn't like Inside pool Magazine, plus I didn't know it but, in the spring through fall they only put out one magazine for every two months. You get one for Apr/May then 2/3 months later you get one for June/July and so on.

Here are some great magazines that you can read online. These are regional magazines. They are free to pick up if your local pool hall carries them and they have high quality pics and stories inside. I believe you can order them to be delivered to your home if you can't find them locally, but you prefer the hard copies. (We prefer the hard copies.)

Eastern States - STROKE - http://www.strokemagazine.net
Central States - RACKEM - http://www.rackemmag.com
Western States - THE BREAK - http://www.onthebreaknews.com/TheBreak.htm

Others - (not free locally)

Midwest - Inside English - http://insideenglish.net/
