Are They Leting AZB Go?

can you imagine how much more knowledge could be gleaned if so many threads had escaped deletion/censorship

While I know some have been nuked I don't remember any specific case that struck me as out of line. Most threads I remember that were pulled was because it was just purse swinging.

I do think the moderation style has a direct affect on where the forum is today but mostly I think a lot of the better posters over the years have moved on to other platforms or dropped out of pool altogether. I see topics that five years ago would be twenty pages only going two now. The numbers may still be the same for all I know but my perception is a lot less people are paying attention.

It seems ABZ is just being let go to altogether. I only go on FB to keep up with family, but I guess I need to go there for pool also. Johnnyt

I have not been on here in months, not really sure why though, what else happened? Why the thought?

Maybe some posters feel like me: after 4 years I feel I've offered my opinion on just about every topic a half dozen times already.

We may be in Phase 3 of ABZ:
- Phase 1: lots of pros and industry insiders kept things interesting
- Phase 2: the pros left but lots of enthusiasts remained.
- Phase 3: lots of the previous enthusiasts have exhausted their opinions or moved to FB, which is where the pros now are

This is accurate and I like how you simplified it down to get to the real heart of the matter.

Also, is there a question of principle in this trend of gravitating towards Facebook?

Here at AZ, is a website which has a heavy presence in the sport. I see them sponsoring streams when upstate AL announces it. I've seen Jerry and spoke to him a few times at Turning Stone- AZ is bigger than just a website. Justin mentioned more eloquently than I could on what this place means to the history, learning, and support of this sport for the entire world.

So when I see people, fans, pros, going on Facebook, I also see all that traffic, hits, advertising numbers going to Zuckerberg, who couldn't give the least amount of care to pool. In essence it's a waste IMO.

I've always been into frequenting those that contribute back to the sport. Even if it means my time, interest, and posts- I'd rather be here than Facebook.

Does anyone else see this point of view? Out of principle, shouldn't the entire billiards playing universe be here?

In a perfect world, I wish all the pros could frequent these pages, make personal blogs here, and contribute. I understand the benefits of Facebook groups and all that. Still, AZ gives back and I'm glad to be here.

Those pros that still contribute here from Darren to John Brumback and Mike Dechaine to Keith and JAM - its always great to know they are a click away. Long live AZ Billiards.

Great point. AZ is an independent small business that does a lot for pool, and sure they sell ads, but they're always completely appropriate, pool-related, and I actually like seeing many of them for pool products and events. Facebook is an invasive click-bait garbage fire of a massive corporation filled with "I just got 8 trillion points in Candy Crush" and "this girl in a bikini just bent over and you won't believe what happened next" bullshit. I understand why people don't like AZ, but Facebook is far worse for different reasons.

A lot of people left because members would not behave and little to nothing done about it!

I have had my fair share of run ins and it ain't fun. When it happens enough you leave!

With 55,000 registered users you are bound to get a few with screws loose!

Maybe you can verify this. Az billiards gets over a million visitors a month making it the single most popular website for billiards in the world.

It's a statistic I heard before and I just haven't verified it.

Is the number that high? If so, then there is no way this horse should ever be let go.

It would be the biggest pool forum if it had 16 members cause there are only 15 cue scientists over on Jimbo Army....they fight like crazy people over there!

AZ is still a very valuable resource and great community. As a good example I'd offer the "Kikel or Nitti" thread. Someone is considering these carmakers, posts, and in an hour has a dozen perspectives from members who have experience with these cue makers.

I was involved in a thread many years ago that turned into an F.U. match between KRB & I.
We both got a 6 month vacation and, thank god, the thread was yanked.
For the most, I agree that many threads are needlessly pulled.

Well, I got sick. Pj, Sam, and that fellow from the UK had to go bye-bye, and the Cubs are in first place.
Other than that, not a whole helluva lot.

Facebook has too much people and u can't tell if they're trustable or not, unless you're selling to someone from AZ(that you know of). Most of my buy/sell still comes from AZ. Don't let AZB go, I've spent more time here than I have on any websites. :)

Keith recently joined Facebook and JohnnyT is on there...it must be the end.

Can I get a link to the girl in the bikini? (asking for a friend)

Well, I'm just a 67 year old who resumed playing pool a few years ago after a 40+ year layoff, but I'd be really sorry if AZB disappeared. I come here every day to see what's going on. Sometimes I just shake my head when heated arguments arise, but it's all part of the internet experience. I can ignore those for the sake of the rest of the content I find so interesting. Would I be glad to see more posts from the pros? You bet! But I understand that isn't likely to happen. Won't stop me from coming here though. Keep up the good posts!

I don't much like your track record on predicting the end of anything...
.....so I'm taking the over.

We are, by far, the most popular billiards website on the net.

Plus there are a butt-load like me (I expect) who mostly lurk and read and enjoy almost all the wit.
Don't contribute much, but support in a quiet way.

No bikini link?
