ok did you also take into account that the league operator does not get to keep all the 6 dollars you pay a night.. some of it goes to travel fund and of course the national office gets a cut

If you joined up to help a friend and/or make it to Vegas, why are you complaining about the money?

The big national leagues have never been about players making money. Did you believe otherwise?

If you joined an APA team to play for money, you dialed the wrong number. If you joined to help out a friend, then you were successful. I'm surprised the team got any money at all. Must be a local thing. But I agree, why bother sending a team a laughable $48.

There's nothing wrong with leagues if you accept that it is simply a social 'fun-night out' type of thing and not the place to seek out money rewards. If you want cash, then that's what money matches and tournaments are for.

I play on an APA team for fun, and I play money matches for dough.

Regardless of what some may say to the contrary, leagues are vital to keeping the sport alive in the US. By and large it is the league players who keep the cue makers in business. It is the league players who keep the cue repair guys busy. It is the league players who buy the lion's share of instructional books, videos, and lessons. Without the hundreds of thousands of league players, pool in the US would be up Sh*t Creek without a paddle.

I am not going to turn this into or join in on any attempt to discredit your claim or reasons for I have had about the same run around with the APA,you have played it so you know fist hand,I am not against leagues ,they are great if you just want to socialize and dont care who gets paid what.I am playing bca right now ,not for the money (though it would be nice)but just socializing ,if you expect much from the APA where I live you will be dissapointed and I dont mind telling you Ewa Laurance runs it here in Myrtle Beach and thats my 2 cent

How do you only spend 15 a week.I drop 20-40 a night and I dont drink half as much as some of my team mates. 8.00 dues plus 7.00 2 beers plus 5.00 tip= 20 bucks gone in no time

In my APA league we used to get $200 for the team to split for winning a session. The league operator changed that, saying he was going to be sending one more team to vegas each year, or one from each session, not sure which. Now we don't get any money for winning a session, just trophies. I personally don't care. I play to have a good time with friends.

Must be your League/Operator. Out here in little old hicksville, Maine, my team won last session. We split $800. Second place split $400. Our operator is sending 3 teams to Vegas, I think. Maybe 4, can't remember. That's just for 8-ball, not sure what's going on with 9-ball, but we have that as well, and they send some teams for that, tho it's a smaller league than 8-ball is here.

That having been said, I joined to have fun and get to play some. I pay $8 a week for fees on the weeks that I play in a match, and nuthin if I don't play in a match. Yes, I drink a little, and that costs some, but all in all, if I spend $15-$20 on a night of pool and beer, I'm good with that. Winning was a cherry on top.

Again, I think it's your League in particular, not APA in General.

A friend (that has had plenty of experience with almost all leagues) told me "you play APA for the money.{Vegas nationals $25000} and Valley for the prestige, since it is much harder to win and less or no sandbaging.

i knew this 11 years ago when i opened a poolroom and they aproached me to have a league. maybe i should have because i woulda made money but being a player myself was the reason i said no. i could not do that to other players and expect them to respect me. players want to make money period. so i simply held weekly and monthly events for cash prizes.

always too many fingers in the pie ! and the players get the crumbs.

What are you complaining about. You got off cheap. In our area it cost each player $8 so that is $40 per week. Then we have to pay the same if we get into the playoffs. My last and final session in the APA I got back a whopping $6 and change. If our team was unlucky enough to qualify for Vegas only 2 out of the 8 players could afford to go because each team gets only $2500 for the trip. This is only $312.50 pp for air, hotel, and etc. Not a good "investment".

It is a joke about winning millions in the league.

Harder to win? eh...

I went to the Valley in Vegas 9 straight years in the 90's and our team won it twice. But we were playing players like Troy Frank, Richie Richardson, Ronnie Weisman, Gary Spathe, Tony Watson, Chino, Jason Miller and thats just to name of a few.....not to mention the unknown champions that came from Germany and the UK who ran racks for days.

Valley is easier to get to Vegas but much harder to win imo. I could be wrong? lol
