Seeing the Mosconi Cup in York Hall in London is one of those must-do pool events. If you can swing it time- and money-wise, now is the time to make reservations. I just got a flight from California and 8 nights in a nice hotel for about $2150. You could stay at a less expensive hotel and maybe save $300 or double up and save $500. Flights from the East Coast appear to be about $200 less expensive.

I figure 4 days of Cup and 4 days of touristing is about right. The dates for the Cup are Monday-Thursday this year.

Man, what a great trip! I'm envious. I will have to live vicariously through your updates.

Have a safe journey!

Bob,

I thought about going but figured I waited too long to get good seats. Any idea what the venue is like from a seating standpoint?

Thanks,

Joel

Well, there may be a problem with that. There seem to be no tickets available for the last two days. I have an email in to Matchroom to ask whether there are in fact any tickets remaining.

As for the good seats, the seats in the balcony are "unreserved". They are also the best seats for viewing, I think.

Every seat in York Hall is a good one! Two years ago they were selling general admission seats (balcony) right up to the start of play each day. It probably has about a 500 seat capacity, maybe a little more. Absolutely the wildest venue that I've ever seen for pool. I loved it!

Was headed for London, where I have many with whom I can stay, but something came up and it's not convenient. Very disappointing. To all who will attend, enjoy.

I'll catch as much as possible on the stream.

I'm heading over on December 8th.....looking forward to an exciting time and an American win.

For those unable to get the Mosconi Cup tickets they want, there are secondary markets for event tickets in Europe, just as in the US where Stubhub.com is the best known.

When I'm in Europe, the site I use for buying secondary market event tickets is called Viagogo.com. As the event draws near, you may find that some tickets can be purchased through this site.

This trip is on my bucket list, make sure to bring a good camera with you and snap lots of photos.

Be sure to provide the less fortunate (us) with those seedy, off-camera stories that are only witnessed by those whose boots are on the ground.

On one of your tourist days, visit Foyles on Charing Cross....
...5 floors of books, many of which are not common in North America.
I know you can get what you're looking for on-line, but here you will
discover gems you didn't know existed.

Good luck on dining, part of Britain's charm is to be able to complain about
the food.....well, fried bread isn't so bad if you're hungry.

Ill be there too this year. This will be my second time at York Hall and it was a ton a fun 2 years ago even when we lost. Went out drinking with some of the locals, one guy had a kilt lol, even though we rooted for opposite sides everyone was super cool. Go USA!!!

I'll vouch for Jay (not like he needs it). Anywhere in York Hall, including the balcony, is out of control. There is no better pool event, pool venue, or pool atmosphere like that anywhere. Ever.

PS. Stock up on beer when you first get there. The 2010 Mosconi Cup at York Hall sold out of booze every single day.

Almost directly across the street (MIND the traffic! It can be confusing) from York Hall is the London Children's Museum, a simply amazing place. It houses a history of real children's toys dating back hundreds of years. Likewise, you will see ancient magic tricks, the evolution of electronic games and toys and much more interesting stuff. I wandered in one day and ended up browsing around for hours. FASCINATING and educational! Some of the toys and magic tricks from a hundred or more years ago were so creative.

There were also games played by adults dating back centuries. Very cool! If you just follow your nose no telling what you'll find, that's my motto.
There is no admission fee, only asking for a donation when you leave. Check it out if you're there. Even a genius like Bob Jewett might learn something new, from something very old!
